@reesie0414 because writing is pretty much segmented freeverse (off the top). so someone who is lyrically nice, and inteelegent could actually string together very insightful philosphy or story telling through a freeverse. so, if someone does go off the top and is delivering substance the spontianity makes it all the more exciting and interesting. like if one was able to tell you the story of slavery while freestyling (off top), that would be super dope.

@reesie0414 Actually, you're way wrong. Yes, back in the days freestyling was when cats would recite some of their written verses, at the drop of a hat, when at live sessions and such. But, over the years (early to mid 90's) the meaning of freestyling changed into it's modern interpretation of being mostly improvised. It had nothing to do with the mainstream at all, it was all of the up and coming cats of the underground scene on the West that for the most part took it to that level.
