C'mon people. Fur is not that bad. I have ranched fur my whole life, hunted and trapped too. Those animals are treated with respect, and dispatched humanely. Faux fur is not as warm and looks like plastic. Fur is a renewable resource, and when taken care of, fur clothes last many generations.

Modern tanning processes involve toxic chemicals that preserve the flesh, so it doesn't decompose in the closet. It is also non-biodegradable. It can take about 25-40 years to break down because of all the chemicals (formaldehyde, mineral salts, coal-tar derivatives, and various oils, dyes, and finishes, some of them cyanide-based)
Good synthetic coats are warmer than furs. How many people that climbed Mt. Everest were wearing furs? They would freeze to death if they wore fur.
Be careful of "faux fur" too. If it looks real, it might be. There was a big thing about it last year, coats lablled as "faux fur" from various stores were shown through DNA tests to be raccoon dog fur, a type of dog killed in China for their fur.
We THINK the fox ends up in the trash, but it is a happy ending because S/HE is alive and well, and telling us how we can help. Even if people wear other people's fur, the animal died for no reason because they are sending a message to the world that they care more about fashion than compassion. Fur is not necessary to stay warm. So don't buy OR wear fur just because it's already dead.

I've believe I read about "faux fur".
It uses less MBtus to make than real furs, manufactured to be any way you want, and it could be warmer than real fur.
But it sheds, no faux furs that have been able to keep snow from melting and re-freezing on the fur's fiber filaments, and its non-biodegradable.
I'd rather wear the real dead deal.
