The only one that wasn't in color was Paper Moon. Out drive in theater sells hot dogs, corn dogs, french fries, popcorn, sodas, coffee and pizza by the slice
The animated introduction and "count-down transitions" were produced in 1974 (stills from "Cabaret", "The Godfather", "Serpico", "The Way We Were" and "Chinatown" are featured in the "Hollywood" montage).
Wellfleet Drive-In Theater on Cape Cod used this one too. Dunno if they still do or not (the theater is still operational in the summer). My memories of this are from 1980 but I trust they had been using it a while even then.
I remember this from when I was a kid! It played at the Bel-Air (Detroit), Gratiot (Roseville), Galaxy (Madison Heights), and the Mount Clemens in Macomb Township. Goodness knows how long they have played this intermission film! It is sad that none of the drive-in theatres I mentioned no longer exist. 3 are shopping centers, and one is an office park.
I still wish they had intermissions on movies over 3 hours long, because i dont think one should hold it that long, it might cause bladder damage. hehe
When I was little, they had a drive in about fifteen minutes away from us, It had two screens one on the North side and one on the South side, They had pizzas, hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream, sodas, candy. I think they sold hamburgers and fries too. They had a playground there too. Children under 14 were allowed. My sister and I had fun there, we would watch the movie and swing, and slide. They got rid of that drive in around the 1980s. They still have one in my area now but it only has one screen
I remember seeing this in the late 70s at the Dent Drive-in which was located on the west side of Cincinnati in Dent Ohio. I know each and every nuance of the voice over and voice acting. Unbelievable how much useless crap our brain stores for retrieval 30 years later.
The bg music @ 7:40 was in a lot of old Hanna-Barbera cartoons, I think? I also think that I once heard in an episobe of My Three Sons? ..Hey, I'm old.
I have a nice 35 mm (estar dupe) copy of this clock. I play it at my drive-in, in PA.
Back in the late 70s I remember this intermission from 42 Drive-in south of Brunswick, Ohio. I could also head north on the highway and go to Pearl Rd. Drive-in, just a couple of exits north. Occasionally I would go to Montrose Drive-in not too far southeast from home. Now I have Blue Sky or Magic City Drive-in less than an hour drive from home.
The answer to the question is twofold: It was made by Filmack Productions in Chicago, the leading maker of trailers and snackbar ads.
The ANIMATOR of the cartoons was the one and only Jay Ward (Rocky and Bullwinkle, George of the Jungle, Capn' Crunch Commercials and so on and so on..)
Incorrect, on both counts. This was produced in 1963 by the animation department of National Screen Service in Los Angeles. I have the original trade paper announcements for it.
Filmack could never produce something this polished, they were the bargain-basement studio (see the "Variety Clock"). Plenty of trailer companies were head and shoulders above them. Everyone today only thinks they were "the leading maker", simply because they are the last company standing.
Good lord -- this was played during intermission at the Hilltop Drivein Theater in Wisconsin just across the river from Stillwater MN... 35 years ago -- what a time warp.
the ford wyoming drive in derborn detroit shows this one on screen 3 with 5 minutes to go and the its intermission time announment. also they now accept credit and debit cards.
We are fortunate to have the old drive in theater still in operation in Shebyville Indiana. Problem is daylight savings time. Owners were going to add another screen until the governor signed in to law DLS.
Been looking for this clip...the Ford Wyoming over here in Dearborn (Michigan) used to play this all the time with the exception of the clip witht the alien, that was actually replaced with a segment involving a Leprechaun...good stuff.
Thanks! Love watching this vintage stuff. The drive-ins were still showing these ads even in the early to mid '70s when I was in high school! This puts me in a mood to watch a movie, and play the intermission ads at half-time. I'm gonna cook some wonderful, deelicious hotdogs on my George Foreman grill.
why does every drive-in mostly advertise the snack bar?

It looks like Jay Ward animation. I may be wrong, but the style is distinct.
