on my 2 stroke i found it faster to keep the clutch in just a hair until you either hit the first turn or if its a long straight until you shift to 3rd. remember it takes longer for the 2 stroke to climb in rpm than a 4. you wont get the jump at 10 to 20 feet but youll be a bat out of hell at 30 to 50. lol get ready to by some clutches if you race alot. not to much weight up front. remember you need some weight for the back tire to grab. PRACTICE.

I really prefer the power band of the 4 strokes, it is much easier use, you have good power and torque even at lower rpms, so they don't have the bogging problem of a 2 stroke. I admit though, the reason for switch by the companies was for emission/environment reasons, as the 2s probably are a better race engine when you learn how to control the power curve, and cheaper to work on, though yes you work on them more often. I have a CRF 450 Honda 2003, and haven't had 1 problem with the engine yet.

@siral1 eventually you will have problems with the valves, youll need to change them, after 1 year of racing with it youll need to change the cam chain, if you are racing and I mean giving it full throtle all the way, new valves wont last you more than year and a half.

besides a 250 2-stroke in racing conditions (ported, reevalve, carburator fully opened, etc.) will own you anyday on a MOTOCROSS TRACK, the powerband is SO agressive,

Any bike will do that... all that depends on is where the idle is set and how tight the throttle cables are. Factory bikes will do that too.

I like the G.P scene better than the American scene. Less hype closer to reality, note no semi. I am in Canada and G.P riders have a different style, they carry more speed in the corners and their races are not all about jumps.
