Would you recommend this or the Motorola Electrify? Do you think the Desire will still be available in February just wondering bc I cant get a new phone until February.
@LIFELOVEBIEBER If you're choosing between the Desire and Electrify then i would definitely choose the Electrify. A lot better specs all around, no doubt. If you want an HTC Sense UI phone though, I still wouldn't go with the Desire. I would choose between the HTC Merge (with a keyboard) or the Hero S which is the newest HTC device available with USCC. The Desire is pretty outdated now, mainly due to the lack of internal storage for apps, which you'll quickly notice! Hope that helped :)
@AssyrianPowers Today, April 3rd, 2011, I rate this phone about an 8-9. It has Froyo, 1 GHz processor, good screen size, HTC Sense, and a very solid build with a great camera. The only things that hold me back from saying it is a 10 is that it does not have enough internal space for apps. This, of course, varies from person to person. I travel all day in a large city and follow many different sports/news, so I use a lot of apps. All depends on what you need a phone for. :)
@NmETech If I had to choose today, I would buy the Mesmerize because of the larger screen and the internal memory for apps. As far as I know it allows over 500 mb or so, and the Mesmerize allows 137 on boot with Froyo. You can always root your Desire and tweak a few things to have unlimited memory for apps (by moving everything to the SD card). I love HTC Sense, but there are other home replacements like ADWLauncher which makes sense unnecessary for me personally. It's all opinion based really.
@tablekloth personally, i have not had any problems whatsoever. usually the excitement of a new phone wears off for me after about a month or so. i've had this for about 6 months now and still love using it each and everyday. it really comes down to whether or not you like HTCs Sense in my opinion!
Unfortunately I own an HTC Touch Pro 2 as well. Soon getting a new phone THANK GOD. I can't stand this pos always freezing and having to do a reset 3 times a day. I'm sure you know all the crap im going through. How do you like the Desire? Any freezing/stalling/lagging issues like the crappy ass pos windows powered tp2? It's either this or the Samsung Mesmorize
@MonteLSV6 Yeah I know exactly what you went through lol WM 6.5 and 6.1 had HUGE memory leaks so after using the phone for a few hours it would run unbelievably slow. I flashed some custom roms to help keep it fast for longer but still couldn't stand it. Absolutely no problems with the Desire after almost 6 months. It really depends on if you like HTC Sense or not. I'm a huge fan of Sense on Android so I didn't wait for the Mesmorize, although the Mesmorize has a lot more internal memory.
This was an AWARD winning review!!! like omg you are just soooooooo smart, i wanted to get this phone like forever and you like totally made my day by putting this up!!! but next time, it'd be nice to see ur face to know who was talkin, becuz you have a very sexy voice ;) Thanks babe!
@apple21juice thanks nick's friend (and nick.) i'm sure i don't know you but from how nick explains all of his baseball buds, i'm sure that paragraph is not far from what you normally act like. so thanks for the compliments but i have a girl. i'm sorry.
@boxinglawson91 If you're with (or switching to) US Cellular, and really want to get a phone that won't fall behind for a good 2 years then definitely the Desire is the way to go. The TP2 actually got released about 11 months ago with US Cellular and was pretty good at the time but has fallen behind since. I had the TP2 before this phone and the difference was night and day. The Desire is quicker all around, more reponsive touch screen, and has Android running of course. That means APPS! lol
Thanks so much for the info. I'm new to all this so this is good stuff to know. Also thanks for doing the review. I want to learn as much about it as I can.
@HOSSPAINTR Well in my opinion, it disrupts the Android OS. If Google really thought it was nessecary to close apps then they would have included a way to close apps. Just type into google "are task killers bad for android" and you will get many results. When an app is still "running" in the background, it's not really taking up any memory or using battery because it does not run like Windows Mobile or iOS. It basically saves its place without using any resources, so Task KIllers are not needed.
@n83inflames thanks! the battery life is pretty decent for an android smartphone. after two weeks of use i've realized that turning off data and gps when you know you won't be using it saves you about 3-4 extra hours of battery life. with gps, data, and autosync all turned on, you'll get about 6-7 hours of battery life with pretty heavy use.
@obakare8541 nope, the FM radio comes on the GSM networks most of the time. this is because of the radio they use in their network (not the same as FM radio) which allows it to act as a reciever.
although there are apps like "iheartradio" which has streaming radio from a good 10 stations in most major cities. also Pandora works well.
@iMagineThis1 ok thank you so much.
