He's got many nice works! If I'd have to choose, I love the cello concerto, from the violin concerto I love the final movement the most. And his opera Rusalka contains some great pieces of music, like 'Hou Hou Hou' and of course the song to the moon :)
@ggguzman Well, he reportedly liked people but not being in crowd. He was aware of his talent and tried to get paid handsomely fot that. On the other hand, his head was always partly in clouds, especially as he was telling his students stories about America. He didn´t married his first love but her sister and in the end, they were very happy and had many children.
I can't decide on a FAVORITE Dvorak... I am torn between his second cello concerto (yes, I said second... there was one in A as well and it's decent) first and third movements, and the third and fourth movements of the ninth, 'New World' symphony. I love finding lesser-known pieces to play on my cello, and he wrote a rondo in g minor for cello that is ADORABLE. I just wish he would make up his mind about whether the treble clef is to be played as notated or down the octave... it's not logical
Thank you for putting in Symp 8! It's my absolute favorite. The chromatic scale in mvmt. 1 is electrifying.
Consider adding Slavonic Dance 4, the Atlanta Symphony has a great CD of the complete set on iTunes, his Romance for Violin, and the Cello Concerto in future additions.
I can't seem to find a full version of the penultimate piece (6'48") in this video that sounds the same as the name given in the list. Are we sure it is Slavonic dance No. 2? Thanks :)
I've played both- and it resembles it... but this is New World... later in the piece, you hear the same theme and the strings divvy up and break down to just a cello and violin solo, after which the entire section sweeps in and you almost cry at how beautiful it is.
Any and all crying in Moldau would have to be earlier in the piece. ;)
I prefer the dancey quality of the peasant dance, myself, though.
how do you not have the cello concerto in B minor lol it was the most famous cello concerto of all time if im not mistaken :( it should definetly be in here
Wow, I know he's dead. But, obviously you don't know English very well. If I would have said "so far", then you would have a valid statement. Saying "by far" in that sentence means that out of all his works, the 9th Symphony is undoubtedly his best work. Go learn the difference before you correct people.
If you buy Dvorak: Symphonies 1-9 and other other Orchestral works Conductor: Libor Pesek
Orchestra's: Royal Liverpool Philaromic Orchestra/ Czech Philaromic Orchestra. Publisher: Virgin Classics. On CD 8. I hope this has helped, but just leave leave me another comment if you need more infomation.
nice compilation; I find his best writing to be in his String Quartets. A wonderful set! I think Beethoven was the only other composer to put together a coherent cycle; the works of Haydn and Mozart are glorious; but don't hang together quite well.
I like a lot of his compositions, and it is hard to pick a favorite. Probably his Opera, Rusalka. Listen to 'Mesicku na nebi' here on YouTube by Pilar Lorengar or Anna Netrebko.

I think his best work is his Cello concierto esp the 1st and 2nd movements

Sorry, but the piece that starts at 6:48 doesn't sound like Slavonik dance n° 2, at least not like the version that I have.
Can you please check an tell us what's the title?
Thanks!

Where is Dvorak's 9th, 1st Mov??? It's like you don't think that it is anything of worth by not including it.

I still don't get why the Violin concerto is there while the Cello concerto isn't.
Yay for choosing comparatively-inferior works and putting the name "his best works"!

No Op 98b? The American Suite?
I'd kill to find a copy of that.
