I run my railking big boy on 0-31 Realtrax, as approved by MTH, but have had enromous problems. I have had the train back to MTH and an authorized dealer 5x, but after running well for a few weeks, it either loses speed control or stops working altogether. The tether harness has been replaced 3x. I am wondering whether I should use 0-72 curved track
I was unaware of this, but I'll not run it on my O27 layout. The individual 6 wheel drive units have a much shorter wheelbase than many of my locos which were made for O27, and the drivers have smaller flanges as well. Also, the drive units will turn much sharper than O27. Therefor, I assumed that it was OK to run it on O27. My mind is really stumbling over this. Could you please tell me what forces will cause this damage? Thank you very much for the insight on this,
@ricomon64 As long as the truck frame is capable of turning with the curve and no wheel flanges are lifted up on the turn its fine. That guy doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to this. You'll lose speed naturally on tight turns if you don't have speed control. And that thing has plenty of traction.
it is possible, but you are destroying the engine's wheels and drive systems when you do that and you lose a lot of speed and tractive effort on the curves.
Thanks for the advice, but I a while ago I decided to take the big boy layout off the loose carpet on my porch and put it on an 8' x 12' table on 0-82 track. Since then, not a bit of trouble.
So, no HQ MTH PS2 or PS3 sounds? PS1?

@rdunkle16 Why don't you try O-42 or O-54?
