  • thanks Bob... and the boys

  • Universal Truths and Cycles gives TVT the finger

  • they're censoring pollards mic spin like elvis and his hips

  • Damnit trees and knees ARE lovely!

  • the guys are loose and in fine form!

Must have been beer in the green room.

  • AWESOME VIDEO! Great song...great performance...they freakin rocked the 2010 tour.

  • FUC*!!!.....TOPS!!! :-)

  • thanks alot for posting that! i have a ticket for columbus: 10/16/10. i think i might pee myself!

  • @kdt89 That is today and you might be listening to this right now. Nuts.

  • Rock on St. Pollard.

  • @scs3000 Uncle Bob.

  • catch the wave, kids. it's called rock-n-roll, and you won't hear much of it these days, certainly not delivered like this.

  • oh people shut up. it doesn't matter what you call it. it ****ing rocks and that is all that matters! bob pollard should be up for rock sainthood.

  • How i wish we had access to such tv shows as this over here in the UK. Bob Bless America!

  • I have a question for you. I'm a big fan of GBV but never got to see them live because their shows sold out in 10 minutes all the time. Is it true that they were popular in England and Europe? By popular, compare their influence to, say The Pixies.

  • @captainbillshatner Pixies were massive when i went to see them in 1989, but unfortunately, GBV are still pretty unheard of over here in the UK with just a 'cult' following. I got to see them at the Reading/Leeds festival in 2002 but most of the crowd were New Found Glory fans who were on next, what a treat they had!!!

  • Dayton, Ohio's best gift to us. Brilliant beyond words!

  • I LOVE this band, but I have to add that in this video the singer looks like a darts player! Not sure if anyone else will get that. Why aren't these guys more well known... incredible songs!

  • Well the problem with the "independant" label nowadays is that the crappy half-pop bands such as Barenaked ladies and Edwin Mcain got dropped by major labels because they sucked so "Indie" labels picked them up. Now they are going around claiming indie credibility because they are on a Indie label.

  • i don't have a youtube account so i hijacked my sister's just to give this a 5 star

  • how cool is this budweiser forever sticky green bud hear what you want

  • So it's "independent rock" then? I'll go along with that...

  • Awesome!!!!

  • BOB POLLARD IS GOD.

  • about as good as the pixies. both better than nirvana

  • GBV GBV GBV!!, jus 1 of their great songs!

  • I saw them New Years Eve in 2002 (maybe 2001...?) in Indianapolis.

The room was non-smoking, so everyone stood outside in the cold, that is until the band came on and Robert lit up a cigarette on stage. All bets were off then!

Black Keys opened up for them. Great show.

  • Notice the lack of beer anywhere near Pollard...strange.

  • Aaaaannnd KICK! 0:29

Indie music officially died when GBV shutdown.

This lineup was very tight, but the original lineup with Tobin Sprout and the other guys was THE ultimate group. They were experimental, powerful, and unpretentious.

GBV is dead, long live GBV.

  • SO TRUE! One of the best, EVER!

  • GBV may be dead, but indie still lives

  • @Nickbarefoot2 Check for early Fall 2010 tour dates!

  • Attitude, Authentic, Accomplished, Anthemic!

  • this is rock 'n' roll, "kids" (as Bob might say). musical, hook-laden rock 'n' roll. as there hasn't been much of it for several decades, it almost sounds foreign in today's bland, imitative, often tuneless musical landscape...........but Pollard continues to be a perpetual wellspring.

  • Comment removed

  • Holy shit...you nailed it. Expand this into an essay and send it to Rolling Stone as an open letter. "Almost sounds foreign in today's bland, imitative, often tuneless musical landscape" is such a perfectly distilled assessment of the shit we're assaulted with daily. Tuneless is the watchword here. Tuneless poseurs with no soul and no understanding of rock n roll. Or the bizarre array of sub-metal genres that have sucked the brains out of our youth. VIVE GBV!!!!!!

  • do they come in france?!! have they already came thru france?/§§ i really wanna know ! plz help me !

  • Yes they have been to France, but they disbanded on New Years Eve 2004.

  • Hell yeah - helicopter!!!

  • what a killer live version of a great song, love the GBV

  • That's just plain inspirational!

  • Such confident musicians, such excellent & tight rock!

  • NICE!!

  • drunk rock...not punk rock. just jokin'...always liked GBV. so sorry never got to see live. nothing like them today. never will be. what does pass for music today is just sad, sad, sad. indie rock is simply.... therapeutic

  • Robert Pollard on tour is exactly this and better. GbV did not break up, only another set of line up changes and excuses for additional output under new names and devices. Best is yet to come and not to be missed!~ Big Tour starts late Sept. 2008.

  • This band (and all the legions of other greats like Dinosaur, Pavement, Sebadoh etc etc)rock so much harder than all the arctic monkeys and kooks and Kaiser chiefs put together. Kid's today should demand better rock

  • amen butter.

  • YES INDEED SON!!!

  • Amen. Amen. Amen. FUCK emo. Please.

  • Nicely put loservidiotboy. Also Bob Pollard could drink every one of those bands under the table and STILL rock harder on stage.

  • @loservidiotboy :fuck you

  • @loservidiotboy

    AGREE AGREE AGREE!!!

  • @loservidiotboy completely true!

  • @loservidiotboy

Animal Collective, Japandroids, Arcade Fire, System of a Down, Muse, TV on The Radio, The Flaming Lips, The Strokes

  • yay!

  • When punk sounds like punk, then it's not punk any more, is it?

    Otherwise what's the bleedin point?

As for these guys, I always liked whoever it is singing the high harmony for GBV. He's a lot more imaginative than your typical backup singer.

  • GBV's guitarist. What's his name? I always forget because they went through so many over the years. But my point is, is that he's like, an underrated guitar-GOD! If you listen to his work on their recent catalogs, he's been consistently more innovative and brazen then, well, ANYONE in rock music today!

  • His name is Doug Gilliard, and yes, he is an underrated guitar gad.

  • And not once, any of you said the stupid word-'awesome' in describing the band!! Thanks much! That fuckin word is used way too much by todays' robot generation(s). G. Help Us, GBV is gone! We only have our memories, surrounded by fools that know one adjective....awesome! I hate them...

  • Aptly put, I too despise the use of the word 'awesome'. I prefer; fukin' rad!

  • greatest band of alltime

  • kick azzzzzz

  • PUNK ROCK GODS!

  • they're indie rock, not punk rock.

  • They're both!

  • no there not. they dont sound like punk at all.

  • Punk is not a sound, but an attitude. In the 1970's, Patti Smith, Richard Hell, Television, were all considered punk and, they did not sound like the Ramones.

  • Punk may be an attitude, but when it comes to modern music punk has a certain sound. This music is indie rock. Indie means independent. They are an Independent group

  • Indie rock itself also has a sound. Its just not as easily defined as punk.

  • Very true!

  • Dude, it's indie.

  • wish someone would put up Long distance man

  • one of my favorite GBV songs (and I like them all).

  • I guess the key to seeing Robert being coherent is to have the performance at 5 in the afternoon, when most late night shows are taped.

  • i fucking love this song

  • Brilliant. I love that band (RIP GBV!)

  • GBV is an American treasure! Thank God for Uncle Bob!!!! Great song from a greater band. This is a killer version!

  • thank you for sharing this!

  • Its good to not see Bob drunk as a skunk like he was at GBV's last concert. I mean i know he can sing his stuff well live, but when he gets hammered he can barely recall his lyrics!!! lol no joke this guy's still cool though!

  • I love this song, it's one of their best I've heard! whats there one album or something called human amusements? theres more to it than that on the title

  • Like the height of a live show... guess this means they weren't serving coffee in the green room.

  • Great performance of a great song...GBV rules!

  • i love this band guide by voices!!

  • I almost didn't recognize them without the bucket of Bud Lite.

  • F'n awesome! This is my personal theme song.

  • robert pollard = rock god

  • long live gbv gbv gbv gbv gbv

  • Great live performance - and a great song

  • this was my first gbv song. talk about hearing music for the first time - holy shit. check out tim staring longingly at nate's bosom. yes, nate's bosom.

  • Isn't great to loose your sonic virginity? My first GBV song was "I Am a Scientist"!

  • Getting old is for Pussies!!

  • yes!

  • oh big baby jesus yes!

  • Awesome. I'm glad this is finally up on Youtube. Now if only someone would post their two appearances on Conan. I'm not holding my breath for their first TV appearance on The Jon Stewart Show back in 95, though.

  • tried to upload their last appearance on Conan, but NBZ shut it down... the bastards

  • fuck yep

  • fuck yeah!

  • Fucking great! I'm glad I got to see this band before they broke up.

  • fuck positive. what show's that? and what's this thing i read abt a Guided By Voices day in several US towns?

  • fuck ja

  • fuck yep

  • fuck yeah

  • fuck yeah
