@thequake180 to just say glue is deceiving, glue comes in many vareties and there are certainly many types of high-tech glues out there, that were developed specially for use in aircraft for example, where glued connections are much lighter than, say, rivets (for connecting large panels of metal, plastic,...). I do not know the details to the case of the 458, but I am quite sure that if glue was used(as it is used in practically every car today), it was high-tech,...flammable, though obv. :\

Yep that is correct. I drove a 98 model Elise when I lived in England back then. The company is actually Norwegian Hydro Aluminium but its a Danish factory. It will continue atleast up to 2012. No, the fire most likely was not set deliberately nor was the driver likely at fault. It is most likely caused by a manufacturing defect.

Ferrari has issued a recall on these cars after five 458 Italias were reported destroyed in the exact same fashion.

Glue used to fasten the wheel arch liners and heat shield can deform and melt due to high operating temperatures. If the glue comes in contact with the exhaust, the glue will ignite, resulting in fire.
