I'm proud to be the 100,000 listener , I might have contributed at the least 15 listens. Jerry with this band is right up there with the much of the best ! "Old And In The Way" will always live ! *
@modelleg Thats why i became a steel player, friend. There is not enough of it out there. That and i sucked at the banjo. Im guessing youre a GP fan as well, right? ;)
Peter Rowan's voice is amazing. If you are not familiar with what he can do, listen to his Native American howling at the end of Land Of The Navajo. Has a great version with String Cheese.
I am actually obsessed with this song after my dad played one of their albums in the car. hahahah so gooodddd. i'm in love. now i need to learn this song on the banjo.
I love Jerry but what about Rowan, Vassar, Grisman and the other cats. It is so cool to hear Jerry play when he wasn't "King of the Deadheads". Just another picker. And sick!
What a great tune, just getting into more of old & in the way myself and gotta tell ya im impressed jerry was a great musician along with the rest of the fellas he played with, long live his great music, new music is crap! all that rap b*llshit has gotta go just think would ppl shoot eachother while listenin to this or actually knowing about this? NO ! ......miss ya jerry
I was at Stompin 76!! was just trying to describe it to some friends after we watched Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock... they didn't get it or didn't believe me, but you know... it's all true! (great movie, too, BTW)
I hear you. I never felt so free and happy as when I was having a time with Jerry and the Grateful Dead. You couldn't help but be in a state of blissful contentment...all was well, all was perfect.
Both...but a lot of people may think he was only capable of the Dead 'sound'. They should explore these releases. They're not the only ones that exhibit his banjo skill, but are a perfect prefect to use as a foundation from which to explore that aspect of Jerry's artistry
Check out "Acoustic Disc". Grisman's record label. He released 2 live Old and in the Way CDs a few years back. Great Stuff. I am sure he has more goodies in his bag that will be released one day. Even if not Jerry G. there is a lot of other great stuff to be found there.
great lp jerry reliving his predead playing....so ultra kool!!!!

The albums are pure gold. Prolly pricey but definitely worth it. Garcia has many dimensions but OITW really showed that.

showed what? that he has many dimensions? or that he was a kickass banjo player
