  • great lp jerry reliving his predead playing....so ultra kool!!!!

  • man how do you wail on a banjo with like no fingers...lol damn you Jerry.

  • I've got Old & In the Way. Not that expensive. The man could play a banjo as well as a guitar. I miss him!

  • love this song!!!

  • ilovethissong.

  • Thank you, Jerry, for turning me on to a whole new musical genre I would have never have explored.

  • only hobos and hurleys listen to this song

  • Jack Bonus wrote it and recorded it and shame on those who turned this beautiful song into a bluegrass throwaway.

  • Man I love this album!!!! Great memories..Thank you.

  • best 9 finger ever!

  • I'm proud to be the 100,000 listener , I might have contributed at the least 15 listens. Jerry with this band is right up there with the much of the best ! "Old And In The Way" will always live ! *

  • the dead show were a lot of fun and your mind was ar peace with those all around . Good times! Mellow times!

  • hey man i would like a copy of this picture too if you could send it that would be fantastic :)

  • How 'bout that high lonesome sound?

  • @modelleg Thats why i became a steel player, friend. There is not enough of it out there. That and i sucked at the banjo. Im guessing youre a GP fan as well, right? ;)

  • Would love a good quality photo as well...... camusmuse AT yahoo.com.......

    grassy ass senior.....)

  • Had this album. Youtube is far out.

  • Two people aren't hobos

  • Peter Rowan's voice is amazing. If you are not familiar with what he can do, listen to his Native American howling at the end of Land Of The Navajo. Has a great version with String Cheese.

  • nice stuff - they introduced me & a lot of others who were primarily into rock to bluegrass back in the early 70's

  • i just like it cuz its bout HOBOS!!!!!!

  • song says alot that is forgotten......awesome tune!!!!

  • This isnt a hobo song this is a hill-billy song!!!

  • Wonderful! Thank you Dead . And Bear too!

  • relatively unknown Garcia (=

  • grateful

  • Any way i could get this photo? I'd definately appreciate it!

  • I am actually obsessed with this song after my dad played one of their albums in the car. hahahah so gooodddd. i'm in love. now i need to learn this song on the banjo.

  • Hobo?!?!?!??!

  • this is some great stuff!

  • Gret, great Garcia

  • Love this song- huge Jerry fan when I sing along I feel like I channel him

  • RIP Hobo Dave, love you xoxoxo

  • I miss him too. Last time I saw him was my birthday two years ago. kind of haunting.

  • Jerry could rip up that banjo

  • I love Jerry but what about Rowan, Vassar, Grisman and the other cats. It is so cool to hear Jerry play when he wasn't "King of the Deadheads". Just another picker. And sick!

  • Old & In The Way....very fine...

  • What a great tune, just getting into more of old & in the way myself and gotta tell ya im impressed jerry was a great musician along with the rest of the fellas he played with, long live his great music, new music is crap! all that rap b*llshit has gotta go just think would ppl shoot eachother while listenin to this or actually knowing about this? NO ! ......miss ya jerry

  • love this tune jerry at his passion.

  • Stompin '76 Galax VA - lying on my back , someone had the 8 track of old and in the way repeating from midnight till dawn

vassar talked me through that night.

  • I was at Stompin 76!! was just trying to describe it to some friends after we watched Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock... they didn't get it or didn't believe me, but you know... it's all true! (great movie, too, BTW)

  • Ice those days will come again, if not for us, for others..we had our turn dude

  • Simply put ~ WOW.

  • remember this JASON

  • I miss you Jerry, I miss the days when we were all young

  • I hear you. I never felt so free and happy as when I was having a time with Jerry and the Grateful Dead. You couldn't help but be in a state of blissful contentment...all was well, all was perfect.

  • @icenine2 .....know that feeling well....so ,long ago!!!!

  • Perfect !.............................5/5

  • Both...but a lot of people may think he was only capable of the Dead 'sound'. They should explore these releases. They're not the only ones that exhibit his banjo skill, but are a perfect prefect to use as a foundation from which to explore that aspect of Jerry's artistry

  • I'd love to get this photo dude. I cherish this album! Can you send the photo>

    Thanks

    Mike

  • check your inbox

  • i like the photo too where u got it?

  • @hatterasmike how did u get a photo ? can u send me 1 ?

  • @hatterasmike Buy the album. The photo is included. Cheap ass. :)

  • awesome!

  • Awesome! Jerry sure could pick that thing! Thanks for the post.

  • Check out "Acoustic Disc". Grisman's record label. He released 2 live Old and in the Way CDs a few years back. Great Stuff. I am sure he has more goodies in his bag that will be released one day. Even if not Jerry G. there is a lot of other great stuff to be found there.

  • Vassar's 2nd fiddle break is to die for...

  • I concur...not a fiddler , but I see all the talent and ball- bustin scales in this solo...every bit as good as vivaldi!

  • i got this album for like two bucks

    its great!

  • i wish they were more old and in the way recordings

  • there are many more lol

  • The albums are pure gold. Prolly pricey but definitely worth it. Garcia has many dimensions but OITW really showed that.

  • showed what? that he has many dimensions? or that he was a kickass banjo player

  • @Alfrunk not pricey at all go get one!!!

  • God I love this group

  • great version boys! let us know about hw ya like our version!

  • Anyone got a date for this picture?

  • both are from 1973

  • Thanks

  • This is so awesome, thank you.

  • Thanks for posting this.Peter Rowan grabs you with a gritty realism that makes you feel the pain.
