I came here from Netgear.co.uk. Yes I'm loving my (hair) doo-o. Why can't they produce country-specific info? Well it's english so that must mean one video for all!
I really have a problem bit the bittorrent client. One's i start the software it will download but after that i can no longer acces the software client anymore.
dgossiaux - One of the features with the Duo is you can keep adding bigger and bigger disks as you need more space or drives get more affordable. Just make sure you have 2 drives n there so you data gets copied from one to the other as you upgrade.
sydboy84 - You can select RAID0 which would present both drives as a single volume but this is a great way to lose your data and Duo is about protecting your photos etc!
RAID1 protects against physical failure of one of the drives, but does not protect against data corruption, directory damage, or accidental file deletion, which would instantly propagate to both drives. Just worth making this clear to people on what is a consumer product. I throughly recommend the ' Duo though!
I agree with the above however I would also like to add another suggestion Netgear. We need a home version capable of firmware updates for increased HDD size. Even for a home user, I want to save more data than 1TB now but sure as heck am not going to pay the $2K for the next size device up!
Agree with your comment. When throwing in another hdd, it automatically dupliactes the 1st hdd, incase of disk failure. Do you know if it's possible to have 2x 1tb hdd's running own their own. So it will be displayed as two seperate 1tb hdd's. I know it defeats the the purpose. But I would prefer that option. Like my old Netgear SC101...
Netgear folks, if you want this product to sell better I'll offer you a tip: Sell a base version with no hard drives. I don't want to buy the HDD's from you guys, I just want the unit.
You Taken the wards right out from my mouth, it seem every manufactures does the same, I only assume they make extra profits in selling the HD with it. Netgear even hase the 6HDs version 6TB "LMAO" around $4,000. They should know HD technology changes like every 6months.

The ReadyNas works fine, but you can NOT use it in the same room as your TV or media player, COZ IT IS TOO NOISY.

the ReadyNAS Photo stuff is waaaaaay to heavy for its CPU and webserver. Don't even try it.
Meowbay 2 years ago
@Meowbay WHat do you mean too heavy? It can't display a webpage with images? What does it do with them that's so demanding?
omniambience 2 years ago
Try its database engine, php and a way too large (secondary) apache server package for starters.

kintaman2 & Gogojuice007 - Go buy the RND2000 (the empty Duo you want) and pop your own drives in. !!
So I guess they are learning about HD technology as they go.......

Is RAID not more about redundancy than it is back up?
harryb01 2 years ago
RAID1 achieves redundancy by creating a backup of the first disk.
So yes.
