He doesn't have much inflection in his voice which mirrors the kind of numb feeling of losing his relationship. The music itself is kind of plain, but again, I feel like that's representational of this sort of hopelessness.

Don't get me wrong, songs without hooks can be brilliant, check out Wu Lyf's 'Heavy Pop' as a brilliant example, but I think there's just no 'atmosphere' here.
