  • fuck that, John Denver sucks and this song is way better... New Order should get his royalties because they did better at that riff than his garbage song.. would have been nice to see it live just fucking once.. thanks John Denver lawyers

  • How about the part from 2:40 that was lifted to make "It Hurts", Sweden's 2004 Eurovision entry?

  • What about the part lifted from Lennon's Happy Christmas (War is Over) starting from 2:09?

  • That guitar line is a complete rip of "leaving on a jet plane" as is the intro. Too much doof doof has damaged yer hearing perhaps!

  • @ttmor WTF? sure not

  • I wonder if it was intentional that the girl's dancing resembled Ian Curtis'. Granted, it's not MUCH of a resemblance, but it would be rather neat (and/or eerie) if it weren't. Just a thought.

  • great tune. Not sure how John Denver thought it was similar to Leaving on a Jet Plane??

  • It's a shame I can't find any live version of this song. Perhaps thank to John Denver's lawyers they rarely or never played it live.

  • @Diamondblade2008 I've tried and tried and I can't hear it either.

  • Please don't laugh, but I really don't see (or hear) how this sounds too similar to "John Denver - Leaving On A Jet Plane" Im aware they settled out of court regarding the matter, but I still don't hear any similarities. Please can someone explain to me how this sounds similar to the John Denver song.

  • @Diamondblade2008

Listen to that guitar break. It's a complete lift of the first line of Denver's song. As is much of the rest of the song. They settled out of court cos it was so obvious .

  • @ttmor I like John Denver so I'm trying to be as unbiased as I can. I tried very hard to hear the similarity and I couldn't until now, but it's still not that obvious to me. I'm sure New Order didn't realize it themselves until they were sued. I read that they hired a British specialist to compare and s/he agreed with the American counterpart that there was a similarity so they agree to settle out of court. They wouldn't hire a second opinion if they knew they were guilty of plagiary.

  • most uplifting song ever made? I've never done drugs but I can only imagine they feel like the emotional rush I get as this song builds up to the crescendo at 2:40

  • The last great New Order single. It was never the same on London Records.

  • @djh29971 what about Regret?

  • @bannananhai

    What about Regret???

  • @djh29971 sad but true.

  • best new order tune - total amazing indie

  • Top Tune. Top video. John Denver is a wanker.

  • So what's the use in complaining,

When you've got everything you need...

  • Single things in life, single things in life people. Got it?

  • I do not think people here understand this clip, actually.

  • 'ListentoGod'

  • amo esta cancion junto con new order que bengan alos angueles ca . pero ya !

  • in the uncut version the old man molesters the girl

  • @sh1tonwba No he doesn't.

  • my favourite song from my favourtie of their albums great lyrics and a great tune

"but i know that i'm ok cos your here with me today, i haven't got a single problem now that i'm with you"

  • I LOVE this song!!! Funny, the little girl she dance samba :-)

  • Where's the version where the last phrase is repeated and accentuated? If you've heard it then you know what I'm talking about. Thanks in advance!

  • ,,,,,,,,,,,But I know that I'm okay

Cause you're here with me today

    I haven't got a single problem

    Now that I'm with you

    (asi sera)

  • I never saw this vid till years later after I fell in love with this track, I don't really like it to be honest, the little girl and the old guy, it doesn't sit right with me. Especially now I have daughter her age. Just my opinion folks.

  • @777system777 Yeah, it was creepy until I watched it again and realized the "storyline":

2 parallel lives come together in the same location. There is NO relation between the two other than this: they both want something that likely will never arrive. The old man wants his date to show up. The little girl wants New Order to show up.

  • Barney - what a sweetie!

The way he sings with his eyes closed and the twirly dance moves...

BTW has anyone noticed how similar the riff is to kate Bush's Cloudbusting?

  • de verdad es mi rola esa!!!! la amo new order es parte de mi vida de mexico y de usa es mi banda favorita y los he visto 3 veses chingones lo mejor para eyos y sus fans

  • New order from 1989 with "Run" I remember how in love I was in the sweet girl in this video, then back in the days 21 years ago!

  • GOOD

  • I read all this crap people saying New Order where never as good as Joy Division,

People are allowed their own opinions, that's fine but what grates me are the people who discovered Joy Division through New Order, Joy Division would have followed down the same road... This is my opinion and i'm always right.....

  • Laziest band in the world. Their crap is regarded as brilliant, which it is.

If they'd have tried they would have blown us all away. What a waste.

  • You people don't know shit. Bad Lieutenant is the best!

  • @Ocugledatvidea are you pissed? they are fucking shitness, lazy,no spite,no bollocks.

  • Comment removed

  • Utterly love this song. And New Order.

  • dance away lil sister

  • Saying 'Joy Division are better than New Order' is absolutely meaningless. They're the same thing, the same people! (And by the way, new order are better)

  • To the person who wanted to know where the vid was shot...

The video was shot in Williamsburg Brooklyn. On broadway and bedford ave, to be precise. I just looked up this video because I found out that it was directed by Robert Frank. I used to live a block or so away from the location and recognizes it immediately. What a funny coincidence.

  • one of my fav new order songs,, just sounds so good..

  • I'm in awe over New Order's music - it combines that particular nostalgia with modernity and hence manages to be a timeless gems. So much respect for New Order :-)

  • dermot51 is spot on..joy division were mint!its just my opinon but new orders best album was by far movement.....but dont get me wrong they made great music and great albums..they were also shithot live!...but their best track was ceremony....honestly does that track not make the hairs on your neck stand up?...............written by joy divison...nuff said.

  • John Denver wanted to make himself seem bigger than New Order in ever way possible, He also wanted to make money out of it, I suppose he will also put in a claim against B.P for the oil slick from the Trans Ocean rig for loss of earnings,

John Denver & New Order should not even be mentioned in the same breath,

  • Anyone have any idea where the video was shot?

  • @rc2869

  • i love listening to this song while driving...

  • is it the original song promo?

  • @BBnose yes this is the official video

  • Robert!!!

  • Magic.

  • one of my fav songs.. love it, love it, nothing better than being in the car playing this.. well any new order to be honest, still sounds great today..LOVE IT

  • I've tried, lord knows I've tried with Joy Division - and I just couldn't care less. New Order were the complete opposite. A wonderful band.

  • What the hell is happening?

  • Does anyone know where to get a good audio version of this version NOT the longer version without the guitar solo/

  • @hamhock1972 But the guitar solo is great!

  • God, this song is so effortlessly brilliant. And that's New Order. Sometimes they can be almost artlessly genius. Even this video. Ok, I'm a lifelong NO fan... Joy Division were their own, but NO were allowed to develop become peerless and true innovators and masters...

  • I really lost all respect for John Denver after the lawsuit.....hold on a minute I forgot.........I never had any for him to begin with.

  • One of my favorite New Order songs!!!

  • Isn't this just "Leaving On A Jet Plane"?

  • no thick cunt, it's run by new order.

  • The song prompted litigation involving the British group New Order. The band's single "Run 2" (1989) was the subject of a lawsuit brought by John Denver, who argued that its wordless guitar break was based on his "Leaving on a Jet Plane". An out-of-court settlement ensured that the song would never be re-released in its original form.[1]

  • @mignonhenne john denver : prick

  • @LegoWomb i read all royalties went to john denver and he stopped it being the next single.

  • NEW ORDER IS PERFECT WHEN IM SAD AND HAPPY I JAMM TO NEW ORDER mainly when i drink i jamm to NEW ORDER like alot Procession is my new fav song aisde from This time of night And Crystal

  • This is my favourite song of all time, no matter how down I am I can listen to this and it will put me in a good mood. New Order are brilliant.

  • I'm no musical genius, and I've never claimed to be, but I have been playing piano for thirty years. I have over 7000 LP's, 1000 cd's, and about 8000 songs on my iPod...but what do I always return to? New Order. Anyone who thinks it's non-musical only has to really listen to Peter Hook's bass playing. His melodic baritone playing is ethereal.

  • i'm only 26 but 80s music make me dream everytime like no other band or singer of this time can do.. you know some bands still trying to have the same groove of that time but no one can be similar of joy division new order the cure spandau ecc

  • The only band in the history of the planet that managed to become different AND better after the death of their lead singer. This says it all

    /Respect

  • @Kalhas01

I will agree on different, thats all.

  • @Kalhas01 ABSOLUTELY better than Joy Division - although you have bat shit crazy people out there that would say otherwise!

  • @twochordcool To me both are just as good, just the music done as Joy Division suits more personal solo listening compared to New Orders socially friendly tunes x] putting Joy Division on in most house parties would kill the mood lol

  • @youwinoneinternets I think it's odd to like both - New Order is so upbeat, happy and musical - Joy Division are so depressing and minimal. I can't even believe the latter came from the former!

  • @Kalhas01 Joy Division were miles better than New Order just had better tunes period ....sorry mate

  • @Kalhas01 I wouldn't say better. New Order is great but I love Joy Division.

  • @Kalhas01 Picky: Bernard is still alive.

New Order came about from Ian Curtis hanging himself. JD - NO

  • @Kalhas01 Uh...AC/DC?

:) but I see your point.

  • love it still...after all these years. !!

  • sorry, that was 1990.

  • @transonicbuoy1 this is 1989.

  • me, too. i had just seen C4 - the song. we got into a white beatle car, over the pennines, to manchester and the HAC. those men joined the British Army, prob dead by now. Dry bar - forever.

  • Oohh boy. I once listened to this on repeat in the car after dropping off a guy at home who had just broken my heart. It just happened to be on. Too perfect.

  • Yeah, John Denver? Are you fuckin' serious?

  • Oh, piss off. They didn't do it intentionally, and they aren't the first to accidentally use a tune stored away in their memories not realizing it wasn't theirs.

And they paid him and gave him his money, so all is well.

  • they survived and became a good band after joy division - dont be a fuckin cunt

  • I had a laugh at your comment: "Shame on anyone who listens to this untalented 80s band"

Does that include shame on you for watching this video. And how can you call them untalented have you ever bothered to listen to anything of theirs other than the big hits. No i thought not.

  • @northwell1234

If John Denver is so preoccupied with preserving some self-indulgent sanctity of his mediocre pop tune and not allowing a song to be released, no matter how derivative it might seem, than shame on him. Irrespective of that, shame on anyone who's musical opinions are so self-righteous that they feel they have the right to shame anyone for choosing to appreciate any type of music.

  • 3:29 Once you see it, you'll shit bricks

  • Such good time.

  • I like other albums of theirs better, but I think Technique was New Order's pinnacle...they never topped it.

  • this and 1963 my favourite new order songs oh and perfect kiss, and love vigilantes oh i will remember some others in a min bollocks love em all

  • i can t hardly choose.

  • for me one of the best songs on the album, a very synth based album has this very classic new order sound that gives technique credability, i have amazing memorys listening to this album on repeat every day travelling on the bus to work ! not New ORder for the elitist's out there who harp on about the old days, its NEW ORDER, it evolves, so should we when we listen !

  • why does this sound like "Leaving on a jetplane" ???

  • Out of court settlement

  • gehseh - because your bags are packed and your ready to go and ... your right. I hear it too. I love it.

  • this song is cute....buncha wierdo's. dovestone and whiff. how do u manage to see perversen in sumthing so innocent.

  • she bangs the drums

  • i love this track sooooo much..heard run 2 first though

  • The last great New Order single. Nothing was quite the same post-Factory, though they had their moments.

  • Disagree, Regret, Crystal, WftSC and Turn are all excellent; their albums have been a bit sketchy since then but weren't they always?

Unless you mean the last great single in New Order's style, as the above mentioned are all conventional guitar based 'indie' tracks.

  • As I said, they had there moments... Structure wise, many of the post Factory stuff was just standard Rock n Roll, which is what they initially set out to avoid. Try and play the chords on a lot of early/mid NO stuff and it's quite difficult - they're all over the place and all the better for it. Losing Gillian it got even worse. What a shame.

  • Agree, and the live JD songs murdering was unforgivable. Glad they split in the end......

  • A garotinha tá sambando é? o.O

  • Sounds like "everything", not, "anything", as the lyrics posted. This might be hair splitting, however, a big enough difference.

  • rs lol

  • such a groovy tune, i heard this when i bought their greatest hits album in june 08, because of that i bought all 5 of their remastered albums i would recomend 2 any new order fans

  • Mi video favorito!

  • Me too! She reminds me of my sister when we were kids :)

  • 2:41 you can see where that Noah and the Whale 5 years time song ripped their melody from lol.

  • 5 ST☆RS...

  • Least John boy left on a jet plane...karma bitch slapped that whiney pussy!

  • the girl looks like a puerto rican kate moss.

  • the man looks like the president of Russia...

  • I LOVE this song.

    5 S☆ars

  • I agree ,do not know why but this is my favourite New Order song

  • new order love love love!!^^^♪

  • such an amazing video, one of the best ever made. Adds a completely unexpected dimension to the song.

  • barney looks like hes in another dimension on this,E'd out of his head

  • I <3 Gillian!

    I h8 John Denver.

  • One of NOs best!!

  • love this video!

  • It's directed by the great photographer Robert Frank- my favorite artist!

  • oh jeez pure brilliance

  • Beautiful song.

  • John Denver is a fool if he thinks he has any artistic claim over this totaly unique tune.

  • Sweet track, me I love the stringz floating in @ 2.:09...JD/NO alwayz got a heavenly synthetic-string sound

  • I love this video..

  • troglo

  • I wonder if this video is about US-Mexico border relations? The scene with the dudes looking over the fence look rather like Tijuana, as for the rest, no idea...

  • that's brooklyn

  • same doubt men!!

  • New Order has to be by far one of the best groups ever. This is a cool, cool song. Its a shame they never made it big, big, big. They were one of the best bands ever.

  • r u out of ur mind, NO made it! I just wished they would tour again. I think you meant to say JD didn't make it.....before the suicide...

  • They had the biggest selling 7inch ever & there's 2 movies about them, they didn't do too badly =)

  • I have one thing to say about NEW ORDER they are the best band to walk on this plant

  • make that 3 movies..say,does anyone know if there are any guitar tab books of new order or joy division around?

  • Correction, New Order had the biggest selling 12 inch single in history. I really doubt they have the biggest selling 7 inch.

  • Oh yeah! haha sorry about that, must have been miles away when I posted that

  • After I take this viagra, my 7 inch will become the biggest selling 12 inch in history!

  • LOL...right on!

  • this is the first time i heard this song, and its fuckin awesome!!!

  • Welcome to the world of New Order (or Run, if you are already a NO fan). The version on the "Best of New Order" album is longer and even better!

  • yeap..i think that one's called Run 2, mate..cheers

  • This reminds me of days on end of music and video games. I now have Romance of the Three Kingdoms on NES is my head.

  • No one can claim a copyright on a riff. There are hundreds of songs that have at least one identical riff as some other song. Some times I catch a bit of song, thinking it is one of my favorites, only to listen a bit more and find that it is some other song altogether. This song, Run 2, doesn't sound at all like Leaving on a Jet Plane. It's not even the complete riff.

  • Another here for Run 2.

    Much more sombre and downbeat.

  • personally much prefer run 2 to run.

  • Totally agree. Love the outro music in Run 2

  • got a mint copy of run 2 and thought it would be worth more by now, there were'nt that many about was there?

  • on of my favourite New Order tunes. wonderful sense of longing.

  • yes! saudade

  • technique. 1989 on a record.

  • haha i kno right how i wish i could bring those days back that dance he does at 3:00 such good times lol

  • Hahaha he looks so high.

  • Stephen Malkmus admited somewhere that he stole a piece of a guitar riff from New Zealand's the Clean, so yeah it happens ............ only seems to be a problem when you steal off someone rich and pissy.

  • Love this song!

  • that ol' ladies book, when they zoom in "Listen to God"

  • i..love...new order... this song is beautiful THANK YOU for uploading!!!!! favorited n___n

  • I can kind of hear the similarities. More in Hooky's bass line than anything else.

Odd video. I'm still trying to figure out where the tourists (?) on the boat fit in with what's going on in the video. I guess the bits with the old man and the girl are just as baffling.

  • please not against john denver allthough i have to say that i do not know him no one should talk worse about dead people.

In spite of beeing a great band new order did something wrong to steal the guitar riff

  • Did New Order really did something wrong though? It's possible they just unknowingly wrote a riff that is very similar to John Denver's song. Why is Run not OK, but Run 2 is fine? Did New Order change the guitar riff for Run 2?

  • Oops, I should have asked why is Run 2 not ok, but Run is fine?

  • John Denver didn't create the guitar and all the chords/riffs/pickings/leads.

  • Yes he is!
