I had no idea! It makes sense. In captivity they sometimes eat their babies or are rumored to bite once, bite thereafter. They must need meat. Why not? All other rodents are omnivorous, aren't they?

I used to feed my hamster grasshoppers and crickets all the time. It was fun to watch him pounce on the grasshoppers or crickets and eat them very quickly.

you can buy grasshoppers in some bird shop or just catch them on grass or countryside
