its very different .. a car to me has to make you feel some kind of emotion.like the way it acelerates, brakes, the sound the engine intake exhaust makes. the way the suspension reacts to the elevation of the roads..etc i dont know what effort these ppl put towards making it drive better ..all that money to improve aerodynamics ?? cmon it just looks like an expensive body kit ..with different wheels. this car is for the superficial people. id take the zr1 and just be happy.cause its a beast.
Actually, it is very nice bit of work, not so bad, and not really so radical as it is made to appear until you get to the tail, which is my least favorite element of the car...the odd mix of angles chops what could have been a smooth back end to pieces a bit. But the rest of the car is all the right things, sleek, low, glamourous, but that tail! If you stop the film at 6:59 it looks sort of like the butthole of a large animal :-( No, its not the sweepy curves of old, but the world has changed
@panszuba IT may not be a "beautiful" car, but it is certainly striking to look at, and you have to admit if it drove down the street it would catch your attention
@sniprzkitty True, but retro is very "in" right now. If you want to see a modern take on the Alfa idea, search youtube for the "Alfa Pandion", Bertone's modern take on the occasion of Alfa Romeo's 100th anniversery and thier "gift" to the firm. The trailer is very well done, and an interesting design.
so... pretty much ferrari wont build a car to take on the zr1 at nurgergring, so they redo the vette body and motor?? what about the enzo??? wasn't that one helluva car??
I dissagree with the comment that the back of the car looks like 'Vaders face. it is clearly Voltar from the league of super evil...unique looking car any ways. I'd have to say that I'm indifferent either way
@MpHuynh613 GM did not care for looks, they did it for speed. It's more aerodynamic and lighter then the Zr1, so significantly faster, it doesn't matter you probably will never see it, they only made 10 at 2 million a peace, and they are all sold out.
if this mantide wants to compete with the other supercars, they need to put the engine in the rear of the vehicle...the design is sooo flawed...nice try but that won't be enough..
i dont think its that ugly. extemley impractical ofcourse and completley overkill with the design but it is completley original. its kinda like a really really pretty painting. i have it, now what do i do with it.
I think everyone is missing the point here, a Supercar isn't always about looking beautiful, its about making people look at you, there are basically 4 rules too make the perfect supercar, they have to be loud, they have to be fast, they have to be STRIKING (not always beautiful) and they have to be expensive, a supercar is basically too show off, for example IMO Lambourghinis cover the 4 basics which is why they're my favourite supercars. and i wouldnt call all lambo's beautiful...
Shouldn't AERODYNAMICS play a big part in designing a super car or even just a car?? Just saying cuz it might be striking to look at but, i think it'll need some tweeks b4 been approved to be manufactured
This might be the SECOND ugliest so-called 'supercar' I've ever seen.....right behind Jay Leno's EcoJet..... The back of this Project M car looks like a f*ckin' wide-mouthed bass! Nasty.....
looks like something off the set of a sci fi movie ... sadly, it doesnt capture my heart for a split second ... even if it does 0-60 1 second!! Perhaps more impressive in real life ...
The designer who built this actually built a few other RESPECTFULLY designed vehicles that everyone loved. I forget the cars...but yeah, I agree, this is one of his worst designs. Its ugly. But like they said, the design is 30% better in aerodynamics then the ZR-1. If ugly gets you performance, then so be it :)
i think your looking at it all wrong. if this thing is a fast as it should be. how cares what it looks like... this think looks like its out of halo. I looks like the future. I dont think its to horrible. They are, however, cars I would buy before i shelled out the money to buy this one.
Not a fan. It looks like a prop from a movie. From certain angles it's eye catching.. but once you get a good look at it.. meh. It's got too much going on. The wings over the rear wheels make the car look like it was a science fiction design made in the 60's. I guess I respect the balls it takes to spend so much money to build such a progressive design, but with something like this.. people either love it or hate it.. I'm a hater.
Btw, I could give a shit less if American cars sell in Europe. The Chinese love them and they will buy more American cars than Europe ever could even if they did want them.
You can call my shit "crap talk" all you want but you are the one who has posted idiotic and biased ramblings with nothing to back them up while I have made an attempt to provide facts to support my opinions.
Funny how in this case the American is the collected and educated one and the European is the blindly biased, angry, ignorant fuck. Isn't it usually the other way around?
Youknow... we can joke and discuss stuff with all the old colonies except America. They instantly go defensive and attack in a furious rage. Especially when we mention their precious cars that arent good enough to sell in Europe. You see we werent bottlefed the american dream. Our parents didnt work in the factories so its easier for us to call it shit if its shit. Also Im glad we dont mix nationalism into everything. Whether we discuss cars, potitics or god help us all, the american army.
I noticed you didn't refute my facts. Rather you started with more mindless, opinionated dribble. I was at least trying to have a discussion. Way to go.
I didnt refute your "facts" because sometimes I just dont know where to start.
Its like talking to one of those maniacs that tell you they were abducted by aliens. You just cant reason with that. Its like trying to convince the pope there is no god youknow.. Cant be done.
Try taking your patriotism goggles off for just one second. They are clouding your vision.
Oh yeah, because people that buy those kinds of cars are SOO worried about MPG LOL!!! However, the (c-5-c6)corvettes mpg is impressive for a V-8 sports car I guess.
European cars are obviously the most reliable in Europe because they are being evaluated by Europeans. Over here, anything but a Porsche or a Mini gets even worse reliability than the trash that the American companies had been making.
Japanese cars have the advantage of being reliable no matter who tests them so they are the ones that are the best. Good luck trying to convince anyone outside of Europe that a Merc or BMW will outlast a Honda or Toyota.
I wanted to say that if you are the future...you would do good to swallow your pride, learn from who you can (whether it be Europeans or Japanese), imitate, find our what people want and THEN beat them at their own game or at least compete with them...that would be best for you. Not be in denial, pretend everything is ok when it's not. But anyway...it's your future you do what you want.
It is a fact that American auto companies made absolute shit for a long time, relying on their reputation from the 50's and 60's where American cars were the best built vehicles on the road bar none. It is also a fact that they have seen some hardship lately partially because of that and partially because of the recent economic trouble that affects all auto compaines.
However, it is also a fact that a large number of brand new American cars are gettting excellent reviews. It is clear from the long term reliability of Buicks that GM knows how to make a good car when they want to. GM and Ford have recently been producing a great product and all of the reviews seem to back that up. Obviously we won't know for sure until a few years down the road when more is known about how well they hold together. If they are still doing well, I think yourself and a lot...
... of others have some explaining to do. If not, those companies are pretty much screwed. They really are on the right track for now though. Sure they have made some mistakes in the past but I don't see any reason to attack their latest efforts until they prove that they deserve it.
You're forgetting one i,portant little detail...that Chrysler is Italian owned, GM Europe has been sold and GM is basically finished because of it, and that Ford are near bankrupt and will be unless they downsize drastically (especially in Europe) and who knows...because the Japanese and German manufacturers are selling more and more cars in the US.
So I think it's a little late for "..we wont know for sure until a few years down the road".
Anyway, they did reduce the drag coefficient and lighten the vehicle a lot. They obviously put a lot of work into that. The problem I have is that I think most people agree with me when I say it is ugly and that you could race tune a ZR1 to beat this thing for much chraper,
Instead of being such an arrogant prick..why don't you accept the fact that you are not God-like, you can learn from people who know more than you and at the end of the day, your opinion counts for shit when you're trying to sell things to people.
This car may be shit in your eyes and a waste of 2 million, but the fact that he's already sold a few is testament that you;re in denial and need to change and LISTEN to what people want.if you want to get anywhere in life.
Italy is known for it's fashion, style and car design. I mean there are companies which only design cars...Bertone, Pininfarina etc Oh please show me an American car design house. And if you think it's all "lame artistic shit" you can think that all day long. It wont change the fact that that "lame artistic shit" is the reason the Italian car industry is booming (FIAT just bought Chrysler) and the American autmotive industry is bankrupt.
Ferrari or Mantide. I don't care who made either one of them. Riding the reputation of one car on the name of another one may fly with some people but not with me.
The Corvette is a decent looking car. Most Ferraris are absolutely beautiful. This thing is not. Sorry if that upsets you. It seems to be popular opinion.
I remember when the Ferrari Enzo made it's debut...everyone said it was "ugly" and "crap" looking...does anyone say that now? The Mantide is forward thinking...you should be proud an American designed this car (albeit an Italian-American). This will give some credibility to the US in terms of car design. I don't see why so many people hate it...of course hate is subjective to the fact that most people know they would never have ono. But given the chance they would love one..
Sorry, you're living in denial. The 24 hours Le Mans was won by:
2009: Peugeot 2008: Audi 2007:Audi 2006: Audi 2005: Audi 2004: Audi 2003: Bentley 2002: Audi 2001: Audi 2000: Audi 1999: BMW
1998: Porsche
in fact a Corvette has never won it.
The most reliable cars in a consumer report means nothing..over here you get different results and over in another country different yrt again. What counts is how many you sell.
Look up GT1 and GTS class. "The competition" does not constitute prototype race cars. No Corvette or any other road car will ever beat the prototypes and win that race outright.
Here in Europe the most reliable cars are German...
And yeah OK, I looked up the GT1 class for Le Mans...it's basically all Corvettes competing against each other..wow I wonder how they win every year. Why doesn't Corvette actually try and race AGAINST other car manufacturers?
And Corvettes are plastic-bodied cars with antique suspension...not in the same league as Italian exotics or German for that matter.
It is not all Corvettes. Saleen S7R, Ferrari 550 Maranello, Aston Martin DBR9, etc.
The reasons it is not too late for a turnaround:
-The government will not let them fail. If they truely take this seriously and get their shit together, they can come out of this in a very strong position. That is a really big if.
- The Chinese are buying a shitload of American cars. Nothing like the largest country in the world to help bring you back.
Because when americans dont win the original LeMans, they made their own american LeMans and brag about how they win every time. The level of stupidity in that is nothing short of spectacular.
You are in denial also because you are saying you "..we are doing fine" yet FIAT (an Italian company) just bought Chrysler recently, GM filed for bankrupcy and Ford is close to bankrupcy. The truth is, the American car industry is just about finished. Even you Americans don;t buy Americans anymore...and selling big bore engines to us Europeans doesn;t work considering we pay for fuel 5 times MORE on average what you do per gallon.
Oh PLEASE stop naggin on about how americans excel in LeMans racing.. If you look at LeMans winners you need to go back to when the Ford GT40 won in 1964 to see any american flags... However in the AMERICAN LeMans racing, there are only corvettes and vipers. Isnt that weird ? Its a bit like americans claiming world champions of american football, baseball, basketball and other sports not played by any other country.
Yep, because Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Porsche are all American autoss and its not like they are known for being great on a race track or anything. cough cough...
Yeah yeah yeah in the american one there is one or two other brands among a sea of Vipers and Corvettes. Whereas in the european LeMans.. the actual, real one, you need to go back to 1964 to see an american name when they raced the Ford GT40.
So how do you explain all of the 24 hour of LeMans endurance victories scattered over the past ten years or so? Last I checked, that was over in France against European cars and that particular event is considered more important than any other series or race.
How do you explain the GT2 class that they moved to this year, where they are racing F430's and Porsche GT3's racing in ALMS?
Would you like me to sink down to your level of idiotic ramblings to answer that ? Think not.
If you would like to discuss stuff. dont start off with crap talk and dont post stuff that will get you a thumbs up from patriotic idiots or teenagers.
If you just want thumbs up. Try writing "AMERICA.. BEST IN THE WOOOORLD" in any forum and you will get it in no time.
@Janusha Here you go you goofy bastard. This is from 24 hr. of LeMans at Circuit de la Sarthe, not ALMS. 1999 GTS winner: Viper Team Oreca 2000 GTS winner: Viper Team Oreca 2001 GTS winner: Corvette Racing 2002 GTS winner: Corvette Racing 2003 GTS winner: Prodrive (Ferrari 550 Maranello) 2004 GTS winner: Corvette Racing 2005 GT1 winner: Corvette Racing 2006 GT1 winner: Corvette Racing 2007 GT1 winner: Aston Martin Racing 2008 GT1 winner: Aston Martin Racing 2009 GT1 winner: Corvette Racing
the car looks ugly...the back looks like a transformer face...the front is so wide in the middle(make the light toward the middle or adds some air holes on it would be better)
Lets take a ZR1 and put a hideous body kit on it. Then, put a race-car looking interior in it and slap a 2 million dollar price tag on it. Its probably slower than the original and either way is not worth the extra money.
The whole body is made of carbon fibre...any idea of the cost of making hand-made carbon fibre panels? Didn't think so... But don't worry, I doubt you'll ever have the "problem" of owning one.
Yeah thats right. I'm only a mechanical engineer. I have only sanded the stuff personally and seen it layed. I can only look up the price of it on McMaster-Carr in like two seconds. But yeah, you totally got me there.
You are right about one thing though. I will never have the "problem" of owning one because even if I ever had the money, I would buy a much better car or several much better cars for that price.
If you are indeed a professional...then you sound like a right twat and should be ashamed of yourself. Also because you put down fellow professionals. Maybe you should look at yourself and your attitude as the reason your motor industry is in such decline?
Secondly, if you know how much carbon fibre costs, why did you say such a stupid thing? Or are you going to tell you could make a complete carbon fibre car for like 10 bucks or something?
I don't put down fellow professionals you doucher. I don't like the car. I am sure it took a lot of skill and hard work to make and I appreciate the work they put into it. I still don't have to like it. IMO it was wasted effort.
Oooh...yeah...well done on listing the wholesale prices for carbon fibre..as if that means anything. How much do the manufacturing machines cost...did you factor that in?
Well ok, how much do diamonds cost? They should be cheap considering a poor south african miner is paid about 6 bucks an hour. It's all relative.
And no...you're not putting down fellow professionals...no of course not. I find it unbelievable a 21 year old guy, in this day, sounds so old fashioned..gramps??
You say that as if other car companies don't have to buy expensive machines and manufacture parts for their cars.
Your arguments are completely absurd. It is a great car because someone bought it? Someone would buy this thing just because there are very few of them and it has a high price tag. It is a status symbol. It doesn't matter if it is the best car ever made or the worst.
Seriously the car looks ugly and also most lines are a copy of the Ferrari 599 and they still managed to make it look so ungracious!!! Terrible design!!! Nothing to be proud of just copy!!!!
Uncacious indeed.. The first thing I thought when I saw it was... a stormtroopers helmet. But not in a cool way.
And what does it offer the world that doesnt already exist ? nothing whatsoever. Its totally based around an existing car. Only this one will cost shitloads more ofcourse.
The worst part is that they try to pass the new styling off as "refined Italian design" as if the original was so bad looking and this is so much better...
Lastly, what have you got against the design...oh I see, because it's got "Italian" in it. If you had any clue about automotive history...any whatsoever, you would know he made the car in collaboration with Bertone who have been making designs for Ferrari etc since the 50s and habe made some classics over the years. Now tell me seriously that means nothing...well maybe it does if you're a fucking classless redneck. Are you then?
What is your reply all about?? The car look like shit thats a fact that can not be undone , also even if Bertone is involved in this horror than he should be fired since he is using lines from an actual Ferrari and transforms it into a bucket of trash!!
Anyway you seem to have a lot knowledge about history and that a great thing but it does not mean and you proved it just now that there is not taste!!
This thing is "italian" only because that might validate it as a proper supercar. Just like the endless myth that Lamborghini helped "tune" the Viper engine. That makes it soo much more mysterious and exotic. The fact is they looked at it but Chrysler didnt want to pay up. Ive also seen a 600 HP Mclaren Viper... Yep.. some americans opened a tuneshop called Mclaren and tuned a Viper to make it sound like THE Mclaren had anything to do with it. Anything to make the european flare wear off on it.
Hello ignorant. No, this car "Mantide" (which means "mantis" in Italian was made in collaboration with famous Italian car design house Bertone. The guy who designed it is an Italian-American and has an Italian name. So a bit more Italian than the crap you made up...
Fact is this guy is charging a high price for exclusivity...art sells for a lot, why can't a nice looking car (for me it is anyway)...
No offence but Americans aren;t exactly trendsetters when it comes to style.
Well basically.. americans never understood the supercar market.
They think... ok it has to be italian styled. So lets get some dude we can afford with an italian name... American Italian ? yeah ok.. that will have to do. Then it has to be overpriced so lets put the price tag a bit above Lamborghini level. Also its gotto be fast.. ok so lets just sell them a redressed overpriced Corvette. Surely nobody will notice.
Well.. I dont want to be a hater or anything. But lets face it. Every single american supercar attempt has gone down the same road. Fit an HUMONGOUS engine for the flagwaving crowd to get all patriotic over, hype it to the skies with ridiculous claims, build it out of racecar parts with a philosophy of "We dont need any of yer fancy ass technology" sell 20 cars and go out of business. The hideous Vector, Saleen S7, Mosler, SSC Aero. All went down the same path.
There are lawsuits going against SSC founder for lying to magazines, pretending to have 25 car orders he never had. Lying to make the value of his company go up. Desperately searching for investors. Car magazines ahve tried calling them, leaving messages, Emailing to interview them, but there is nobody at the factory. They might be out getting investors. They probably arent bankrupt but they sure as hell arent busy building cars. And they sold what.... 10 ? since 2007. Thats amazing.
@Janusha You are a moron. Americans make the worlds fastest production car. (SSC Ultimate Aero) The Corvette ZR1 destroys most any Italian supercar, at half the price. Seems that you are just another ignorant wanker.
This car is just some idiot creating an ugly ass car. It is hideous, and I think we can all agree that the guy responsible for this abomination has no style. There are idiots like this all over the world.
Bugatti is the worlds fastest car. The SSC is the worlds fastest kit-car. See the difference ?
You see.. somehow americans refuse to be competetive on quality, technology, styling and handling. Because those things cost money. Which leaves them bragging about their straight line speed and quarter miles. Because speed is cheap. Hell they did 600 mph at Bonneville in the 60s. So what. The SSC is the worst case of patriotism hailing a kitcar to the skies simply for being american.
@Janusha Rnd create's a very large amount of cost, there isn't going to be many made so such the price will go up, and check the ZR1's stats out, don't knock it it's destroying all of your beloved italian favorite's
The ZR1 is quick.. but thats all there is. Italian supercars.. hell most European supercars are refreshingly disconcerned with top speed. I like that. They instead concentrate on quality, handling and weight loss. Thats where things start to cost money and incidentally thats exactly where USA has a hell of alot of catching up to do. There are 50-60 currently available supercars out there and 4-5 of them arent from Europe. Pretty onesided. The Corvette has a big engine and thats about it.
@Janusha you need to look at slalom speeds and the Nuremburg, the ZR1 holds the track record with stock tires at 7:27... I believe anyway it holds that track record wich the track is in Europe, the Corvette also holds one of the very best braking test records.
I can promise you.. I really do not need to look at any slalom speed or the faked american nurburgring lap times. because I know some shit and therefore dont have to eat the hype, wild claims or rumours you americans so desperately cling on to. Americans have a religious attachment to their Corvette regardless of its buildquality or basic structure. Sure.. Its a capable thing but know that its YOUR hero. They dont generate much interrest elsewhere.
@Janusha lol I love how you continue to deny the country that brought the car to life the ability to bring a great vehicle into existance, regardless I am tired of arguing have fun with your overpriced vehicles.
yeah the price issue is always the final straw once all other angles are exhausted. while you can deal the standard "bang for the buck" line about the Corvette, you might just as easily turn that around and say its quite possibly the worst quality vehicle in the world for its price. Its far from some blue-collar supercar with its 100 000 dollar pricetag. Thats Porsche money and if they made quality like that at Porsche there would be scandals and people would lose their jobs.
@Janusha Why has the corvette won almost every GT2 race for past 10 years? You are just ignorant. Fucking jelous loser. The veyron is ugly and the SSC is not. The ssc handles fine- without a bunch of driver aids, because Americans are not afraid to make a car go fast with skill- SKILL not tracion control, stability control, etc.
I dont follow racing. Certainly not american racing where every league is swarmed with Corvette factory backed racing teams. However... you need to understand that in racing they have enormous budgets and a set of rules which is there especially to make the cars equal. That does not represent the actual showroom cars capabilities. As for the SSC. Give me a fucking break. Its a glorified kitcar only famous because americans pour bucketloads of patriotism on it. Cheapass cars dont have technology.
yeah when TopGear drove it they said it set off uncontrolably like a rocket and spun out in all 4 first gears. They questioned the point of making it in the first place. utterly useless.
@Janusha i kind like the back of it i think it should be smoother like less bulky then it would look kool and yes it does look like a storm troopers helmet....oh and i think the front is fuck ugly

The wings over the rear wheels make the car look like it was a science fiction design made in the 60's. I guess I respect the balls it takes to spend so much money to build such a progressive design, but with something like this.. people either love it or hate it.. I'm a hater.

Chrysler is Italian owned. Guess what? Chrysler still makes trash. Funny how that works isn't it?
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
European cars are obviously the most reliable in Europe because they are being evaluated by Europeans. Over here, anything but a Porsche or a Mini gets even worse reliability than the trash that the American companies had been making.
Japanese cars have the advantage of being reliable no matter who tests them so they are the ones that are the best. Good luck trying to convince anyone outside of Europe that a Merc or BMW will outlast a Honda or Toyota.
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
@CorvetteRacingFan:
But anyway...it's your future you do what you want.
evilhamster666 2 years ago
As far as the whole denial thing goes:
It is a fact that American auto companies made absolute shit for a long time, relying on their reputation from the 50's and 60's where American cars were the best built vehicles on the road bar none. It is also a fact that they have seen some hardship lately partially because of that and partially because of the recent economic trouble that affects all auto compaines.
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
However, it is also a fact that a large number of brand new American cars are gettting excellent reviews. It is clear from the long term reliability of Buicks that GM knows how to make a good car when they want to. GM and Ford have recently been producing a great product and all of the reviews seem to back that up. Obviously we won't know for sure until a few years down the road when more is known about how well they hold together. If they are still doing well, I think yourself and a lot...
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
... of others have some explaining to do. If not, those companies are pretty much screwed. They really are on the right track for now though. Sure they have made some mistakes in the past but I don't see any reason to attack their latest efforts until they prove that they deserve it.
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
@CorvetteRacingFan:
So I think it's a little late for "..we wont know for sure until a few years down the road".
evilhamster666 2 years ago
Anyway, they did reduce the drag coefficient and lighten the vehicle a lot. They obviously put a lot of work into that. The problem I have is that I think most people agree with me when I say it is ugly and that you could race tune a ZR1 to beat this thing for much chraper,
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
@CorvetteRacingFan
Instead of being such an arrogant prick..why don't you accept the fact that you are not God-like, you can learn from people who know more than you and at the end of the day, your opinion counts for shit when you're trying to sell things to people.
This car may be shit in your eyes and a waste of 2 million, but the fact that he's already sold a few is testament that you;re in denial and need to change and LISTEN to what people want.if you want to get anywhere in life.
evilhamster666 2 years ago
Italy is known for it's fashion, style and car design. I mean there are companies which only design cars...Bertone, Pininfarina etc Oh please show me an American car design house. And if you think it's all "lame artistic shit" you can think that all day long. It wont change the fact that that "lame artistic shit" is the reason the Italian car industry is booming (FIAT just bought Chrysler) and the American autmotive industry is bankrupt.
evilhamster666 2 years ago
Ferrari or Mantide. I don't care who made either one of them. Riding the reputation of one car on the name of another one may fly with some people but not with me.
The Corvette is a decent looking car. Most Ferraris are absolutely beautiful. This thing is not. Sorry if that upsets you. It seems to be popular opinion.
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
@CorvetteRacingFan
But given the chance they would love one..
evilhamster666 2 years ago
On the subject of credibility to the US in terms of car design.
-A Corvette wins more ALMS championships and 24 hr. of LeMans events this decade than any of the competition. Vipers were winning before them too.
-The most reliable cars in my Consumer reports magazines are Toyota, Honda and American Buicks.
-The latest Ford and Chevys are getting very high initial quality and reliability ratings.
-The fastest production car in the world is an American SSC Aero
I think we are doing fine.
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
@CorvetteRacingFan:
What counts is how many you sell.
evilhamster666 2 years ago
Look up GT1 and GTS class. "The competition" does not constitute prototype race cars. No Corvette or any other road car will ever beat the prototypes and win that race outright.
The most reliable cars are Japanese. Get over it.
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
@CorvetteRacingFan:
Here in Europe the most reliable cars are German...
And yeah OK, I looked up the GT1 class for Le Mans...it's basically all Corvettes competing against each other..wow I wonder how they win every year. Why doesn't Corvette actually try and race AGAINST other car manufacturers?
And Corvettes are plastic-bodied cars with antique suspension...not in the same league as Italian exotics or German for that matter.
evilhamster666 2 years ago
It is not all Corvettes. Saleen S7R, Ferrari 550 Maranello, Aston Martin DBR9, etc.
The reasons it is not too late for a turnaround:
-The government will not let them fail. If they truely take this seriously and get their shit together, they can come out of this in a very strong position. That is a really big if.
- The Chinese are buying a shitload of American cars. Nothing like the largest country in the world to help bring you back.
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
@evilhamster666
Because when americans dont win the original LeMans, they made their own american LeMans and brag about how they win every time. The level of stupidity in that is nothing short of spectacular.
Janusha 2 years ago
@CorvetteRacingFan
Certainly if you are the future...
evilhamster666 2 years ago
Fiat didnt buy chrysler.. Chrysler was given away to Fiat for free to avoid closing down the entire Chrysler brand.
Janusha 2 years ago
Oh PLEASE stop naggin on about how americans excel in LeMans racing.. If you look at LeMans winners you need to go back to when the Ford GT40 won in 1964 to see any american flags... However in the AMERICAN LeMans racing, there are only corvettes and vipers. Isnt that weird ? Its a bit like americans claiming world champions of american football, baseball, basketball and other sports not played by any other country.
Janusha 2 years ago
@Janusha
Yep, because Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Porsche are all American autoss and its not like they are known for being great on a race track or anything. cough cough...
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
Yeah yeah yeah in the american one there is one or two other brands among a sea of Vipers and Corvettes. Whereas in the european LeMans.. the actual, real one, you need to go back to 1964 to see an american name when they raced the Ford GT40.
Janusha 2 years ago
@Janusha
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago

Lets take a ZR1 and put a hideous body kit on it. Then, put a race-car looking interior in it and slap a 2 million dollar price tag on it. Its probably slower than the original and either way is not worth the extra money.
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
The whole body is made of carbon fibre...any idea of the cost of making hand-made carbon fibre panels? Didn't think so... But don't worry, I doubt you'll ever have the "problem" of owning one.
evilhamster666 2 years ago
Yeah thats right. I'm only a mechanical engineer. I have only sanded the stuff personally and seen it layed. I can only look up the price of it on McMaster-Carr in like two seconds. But yeah, you totally got me there.
You are right about one thing though. I will never have the "problem" of owning one because even if I ever had the money, I would buy a much better car or several much better cars for that price.
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
@CorvetteRacingFan
Or are you going to tell you could make a complete carbon fibre car for like 10 bucks or something?
evilhamster666 2 years ago
I don't put down fellow professionals you doucher. I don't like the car. I am sure it took a lot of skill and hard work to make and I appreciate the work they put into it. I still don't have to like it. IMO it was wasted effort.
As far as price:
I sheet: 1/16 x 12 x 24 inches, $69.17
(2000000 Mantide - 100000 ZR1) / 69.17 = 27468.6 sheets
I know I left out labor and all other modifications but seriously; there is absolutely no way the body work justifies this price.
CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
@evilhamster666
I find it unbelievable a 21 year old guy, in this day, sounds so old fashioned..gramps??
evilhamster666 2 years ago
You say that as if other car companies don't have to buy expensive machines and manufacture parts for their cars.
Your arguments are completely absurd. It is a great car because someone bought it? Someone would buy this thing just because there are very few of them and it has a high price tag. It is a status symbol. It doesn't matter if it is the best car ever made or the worst.

CorvetteRacingFan 2 years ago
@CorvetteRacingFan:
Are you then?
evilhamster666 2 years ago
@evilhamster666
What is your reply all about?? The car look like shit thats a fact that can not be undone , also even if Bertone is involved in this horror than he should be fired since he is using lines from an actual Ferrari and transforms it into a bucket of trash!!
Anyway you seem to have a lot knowledge about history and that a great thing but it does not mean and you proved it just now that there is not taste!!
merismus 1 year ago
This thing is "italian" only because that might validate it as a proper supercar. Just like the endless myth that Lamborghini helped "tune" the Viper engine. That makes it soo much more mysterious and exotic. The fact is they looked at it but Chrysler didnt want to pay up. Ive also seen a 600 HP Mclaren Viper... Yep.. some americans opened a tuneshop called Mclaren and tuned a Viper to make it sound like THE Mclaren had anything to do with it. Anything to make the european flare wear off on it.
Janusha 2 years ago
@Janusha:
Hello ignorant. No, this car "Mantide" (which means "mantis" in Italian was made in collaboration with famous Italian car design house Bertone. The guy who designed it is an Italian-American and has an Italian name. So a bit more Italian than the crap you made up...

The hideous Vector, Saleen S7, Mosler, SSC Aero. All went down the same path.
Janusha 1 year ago
@Janusha They still build the SSC's... Dumbass
iiSkyRocket 1 year ago
There are lawsuits going against SSC founder for lying to magazines, pretending to have 25 car orders he never had. Lying to make the value of his company go up. Desperately searching for investors. Car magazines ahve tried calling them, leaving messages, Emailing to interview them, but there is nobody at the factory. They might be out getting investors. They probably arent bankrupt but they sure as hell arent busy building cars. And they sold what.... 10 ? since 2007. Thats amazing.
Janusha 1 year ago
@Janusha You are a moron. Americans make the worlds fastest production car. (SSC Ultimate Aero) The Corvette ZR1 destroys most any Italian supercar, at half the price. Seems that you are just another ignorant wanker.
This car is just some idiot creating an ugly ass car. It is hideous, and I think we can all agree that the guy responsible for this abomination has no style. There are idiots like this all over the world.
MisterPeetBull 1 year ago
Bugatti is the worlds fastest car. The SSC is the worlds fastest kit-car. See the difference ?
You see.. somehow americans refuse to be competetive on quality, technology, styling and handling. Because those things cost money. Which leaves them bragging about their straight line speed and quarter miles. Because speed is cheap. Hell they did 600 mph at Bonneville in the 60s. So what. The SSC is the worst case of patriotism hailing a kitcar to the skies simply for being american.
Janusha 1 year ago
@Janusha Rnd create's a very large amount of cost, there isn't going to be many made so such the price will go up, and check the ZR1's stats out, don't knock it it's destroying all of your beloved italian favorite's
Arrowstottle 1 year ago
The ZR1 is quick.. but thats all there is. Italian supercars.. hell most European supercars are refreshingly disconcerned with top speed. I like that. They instead concentrate on quality, handling and weight loss. Thats where things start to cost money and incidentally thats exactly where USA has a hell of alot of catching up to do. There are 50-60 currently available supercars out there and 4-5 of them arent from Europe. Pretty onesided. The Corvette has a big engine and thats about it.
Janusha 1 year ago
@Janusha you need to look at slalom speeds and the Nuremburg, the ZR1 holds the track record with stock tires at 7:27... I believe anyway it holds that track record wich the track is in Europe, the Corvette also holds one of the very best braking test records.
Arrowstottle 1 year ago
I can promise you.. I really do not need to look at any slalom speed or the faked american nurburgring lap times. because I know some shit and therefore dont have to eat the hype, wild claims or rumours you americans so desperately cling on to. Americans have a religious attachment to their Corvette regardless of its buildquality or basic structure. Sure.. Its a capable thing but know that its YOUR hero. They dont generate much interrest elsewhere.
Janusha 1 year ago
@Janusha lol I love how you continue to deny the country that brought the car to life the ability to bring a great vehicle into existance, regardless I am tired of arguing have fun with your overpriced vehicles.
Arrowstottle 1 year ago
yeah the price issue is always the final straw once all other angles are exhausted. while you can deal the standard "bang for the buck" line about the Corvette, you might just as easily turn that around and say its quite possibly the worst quality vehicle in the world for its price. Its far from some blue-collar supercar with its 100 000 dollar pricetag. Thats Porsche money and if they made quality like that at Porsche there would be scandals and people would lose their jobs.
Janusha 1 year ago
@Janusha Why has the corvette won almost every GT2 race for past 10 years? You are just ignorant. Fucking jelous loser. The veyron is ugly and the SSC is not. The ssc handles fine- without a bunch of driver aids, because Americans are not afraid to make a car go fast with skill- SKILL not tracion control, stability control, etc.
Fucking pussy.
MisterPeetBull 1 year ago
I dont follow racing. Certainly not american racing where every league is swarmed with Corvette factory backed racing teams. However... you need to understand that in racing they have enormous budgets and a set of rules which is there especially to make the cars equal. That does not represent the actual showroom cars capabilities. As for the SSC. Give me a fucking break. Its a glorified kitcar only famous because americans pour bucketloads of patriotism on it. Cheapass cars dont have technology.
