  • very nice review quick, clear and everything I would have checked. I like mandrivas polished gui

  • hallo i have used the ubantu version 9 but i want to use the mandriva could you please tell me can i use my other software like cannon EOS digital camera's software?

can i use msn messanger or yahoo or google on mandriva?

    thanks

  • I have problem installing mandrivia 2010 for my hp compaq mini110c netbook. After fresh installation the windows open, but it hangs and never continue to boot.

  • how do you change the screen resolution on this

  • Mandriva is really nooob friendly, just like windows, point and click. that's it (ZZZzzzz)

  • My first ever look at Linux was Mandrake 8 and how the mighty have fallen. I really hope mandriva survive but having just released key Programmers I fear for their future.

  • will it work on netbook? mine is hp compaq mini 110?

  • @MrJosebatute Mandriva has been marketed as being compatible with netbooks before so give it a try.

  • @MrJosebatute it will, i had one on my acer one. Runs smoothly and better than XP, but computer gets awfully hot.

  • How Mandriva Linux handle utilities like Flash Player or Java player client because in SUSE Linux 11.2 i couldn't get them work ? Can i install kits like flash or java like in Windows or i need to know how to work in Linux ? :D

  • @kytanokyle If they're not in the repositories you can download them from the Adobe and Oracle website. For flash use the RPM File.

  • @kytanokyle

    Hello kytanokyle,

You just download the RPM versions from Adobe, and they will work great even on the 64bit Mandriva since mandriva will automatically configure the 32bit flash player to work correctly with 64bit version using nspluginwrapper.

In the case of Ubuntu 10.04 64bit I had to do it manually since the Ubuntu installer said I could not install 32bit flash player on a 64bit Ubuntu..

    Mandriva is really nice.

  • The site is down for me , so how to download it now? (i want 600~800mb version)

  • Was waiting on this to make a decision between fedora and mandriva, already installed fedora, but might switch. I like the software management, reminds of how ubuntu used to be before they went with that crap software store. I do like the default oxygen kde theme though, is that available in mandriva?

  • Yep it's there, it's just not switched on by default, you can enable it though and it's already installed.

  • It all seems a bit technical. Should the average computer user ever have to come into contact with half of the settings in the control center for example? Windows has a reputation for slightly over-complicating things (compared with MacOS), but this is ridiculous. On any other OS to get the new version of FF you just download it and it installs. I appreciate that professionals may need the added complexity but for most I would imagine they'd want a more mainstream, less fiddly OS! Good vid tho!

  • As far as Linux distros go this is as good as it gets for new users IMO.

  • I'd recommend you to try Mandriva if your new to linux. It's far less complex than other distros. Try your local news agent; I got a linux mag and a copy of Mandriva power pack for $15 AU (This version does video drivers, dvds and codecs out of the box)

  • @TradieTrev Yep the Powerpack is brilliant and as you said it is from time to time, included in magazines. I got Mandriva 2008.1 Powerpack through Linux Magazine a few years ago.

  • great review!

ill probably give it a try
