Easy to answer that first question. If a company wants to differentiate itself and remain competitive, it will have to execute some level of social responsibility. However, a business is not "obligated" to do so--- it is a choice. If the company must engage in acts of social responsibility in order to facilitate profits for the shareholders...then yes, they are obligated through their fiduciary to the shareholders... social responsibility and shareholder fiduciary responsibility become one.
