Most special education recipients fall within the categories of borderline intellectual functioning and mild mental retardation.
I was in spec-ed in high school, I should know this from first-hand experience.
It was absolutely soul-crushing being told that you're basically stupid, and could not possibly ever attend college or do things normal people can, and would do.
In my humble opinion special ed doesn't deliver a proper education to the vast majority of their students, in return individuals whom were placed in special ed classes enter the real world with a sense of uncertainty, due to the fact that they possess no genuine knowledge as to how the world operates on a mass scale. Complications arise, in conclusion I wouldn't recommend special ed services to anyone if they desire to obtain a good education and healthy self image.
If parents do not agree with the IEP and placement, they may discuss their concerns with other members of the IEP team and try to work out an agreement. There are several options, including additional testing, an independent evaluation, or asking for mediation (if available) or a due process hearing. They may also file a complaint with the state education agency.(this mean that if you the parent do not agree with what the school says you canT do nothing about it . they have the last word )
When these kids get out in the real world and don't catch on fast employers get impatient with them because they do not understand.I had trouble holding down jobs
because I was slow and not a fast learner. It was not because of not trying.
not discriminated against? are you joking? It's like open season. I asked them to just let me go, and I would teach myself. I had people tell me later that I am not disabled due to testing they did, so they just got out of teaching me and a free punch bag with no social skills. I'm so jacked up now.
Has "made leaps and bounds." What data are they looking at? High incidence disabilities continue to be a mess from identification to service, to outcomes.

@Ichliebemusikundybd I agree with you 100% but what would be a good alternative for someone with
a learning disability. That was me and htere was no help in my time.I fell through the cracks. I was always told
I could do better if I would try harder.

@TwinBullet I agree,I had LD and I went to community college(long ago) and when
they found out I was LD they told me to withdraw and never come back.Even Community college will be difficult for someone with LD.I managed to pass
the GED when everyone said I was wasting my time.I learned more from the
GED classes than I did in Special ed :).
