I run at 4mm/sec...same as the fast-forward parts of this vid...have cut delicately detailed Depron snowflakes 4" across...and a Valentine heart with cursive writing inside...oh...and a few airplane models! Check "myname" dot com for examples. For a guy that likes foam planes, without all the messy shaping, this is a great way to go! Not trying to sell anything, mind you, I've been away from the hobby for quite a while now.

To all viewing, reading, and commenting: This is THE worst use of a CNC Hotwire I've ever seen! Please, DO NOT form an opinion based on RC Universe's videos! A machine home-built from info here: tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/CN­CFoamcutters/ will cut circles around this thing...without the wobbly motions!

I think a machine which uses the same principle but with a sharpened wire and a oscillating movement will do the work faster and with much more accuracy. The drawback of the hot wire technique is the way you have to follow your profile edges without melted his surface, this factor depends on the speed of the machine itself, too much parameter just for a cut in my view.

@skyhacker6 probably to make sure the wire has time to fully cut the foam so it don't drag and bow the wire which would make the notches almost impossible to do so precisely.
