Boeing is better. In my opinion. I never had a Airbus flight that I could say was impressive or COMFORTABLE.

One of the advantages the A340 has over the 777 is flight over the Himalayas. If an engine fails on the 777 the driftdown altitude could be below the minimum safe altitude for terrain clearance around Tibet.

There are a few escape routes but it's quite easy to for the pilots to get it wrong during an emergency and insurance people don't like that.

Thai Airways, one of A340-500 operator that flies them non-stop from New York to Bangkok (13770 km; 17 h 30 min), was forced by corrupted politicians to buy this aircraft, because it is such fuel hungry that there are less customers than the Boeing's more efficient and popular equivalent, 777. Those politicians know that if they buy slow-selling plane, they can get more commission, and that commission goes into those politicians' own pockets. This makes Thai Airways loss from massive fuel costs.

Its a little confusing. Despite the fact that the A345 is the 2nd longest range plane in the world, it is still used on the longest non-stop route between Singapore and Newark.

Comparing the two, if I were in coach, I'd easily chose the A345 due to its 2-4-2 seating arrangement. No need to clamber over more then 1 person :D

indeed. the 777 was there to score points only. a345s still have more economy on fuel. a345s have better seating configurations, esp on SIA's a345s

the A345s were common on that route, but i haven't taken the all-business ones yet. it is rather pricey to fly SQ's business class. and no, the now-defunct 3 class SIA A345s have ample seating for coach and the economy is always near-empty when i fly it.

I much rather prefer the Airbus aircraft although boeing are ok. Embrear are also pretty comfortable.

haha .not the longest range aircraft in world anymore! the Boeing B777-200LR has 17,500 something km of range while airbus a340-500 has 16700 km of range.

i agree. i think airbus is better but i may be bias since i've rode more airbus (a320, a321, a330, a340) than boeing (b737 and b747). looking forward to board malaysia airlines b777 to auckland in june, i might change opinion :)

I liked this ad a lot, the music could have been better, however I liked the fact that there were no fake ass actors in it, very simple and very well done.. kudos to the advertising agency that came up with it!!

False, Boeing beat Airbus on that one. Boeing did a non-stop flight from London to Hong Kong EXCEPT they went by the atlantic, heading northwest.
