it isn't about the cross, it's about how everything in this video misrepresents how it actually is to live in howard-suamico and attend this school district.

Keep in mind this is a commercial, not a documentary. I agree that the cross and Mr. LaCroix's blessing comment can be looked at as pro-christian, but that doesn't mean it's anit-any other religion. We live here and it's a great community, great schools and of course there are drawbacks...nothing in life is as perfect as commercials make it seem. The producers also only showcased the wealthy suburbs in the area. And I've never known such happy high schoolers as those portrayed.

Have any of you negative minded people actually watched the video? The video is about the community of Howard Suamico, not the school. The school district is but one aspect of the entire video. The video is to promote what the community offers-which includes churches. Is anyone forcing you to attend the church? I think not. Get a life and grow up. You don't want religious beliefs forced on you? Well I don't want your negative, anti-religious views forced into my face either.

I think the implication of the cross is obvious: it says "We're a good Christian community." That's not a message a public school should send: children of all religions, or none, should feel welcome. As the cross is fades out, the superintendant also mentions they're "blessed". By whom, I wonder...

If I had school-aged children, I'd think twice before sending them to this district. Who knows, maybe that's part of the point: encourage more "good" Christians while subtly keeping out diversity.

@Mstotallyrandomstuff I'm against ALL promotion of religion by government, particularly public schools in charge of teaching kids. I'd be just as upset if they were implicitly promoting Islam, Judaism, or Wicca in the video.

It sounds like you and your friends are proof it's not just a Christian community. So this video is both misleading & offensive. Let the church do its own promo if it wants. There's no reason for the school to promote someone else's religion over yours or your friends'.

I graduated from Bay Port and proud of how well we were taught compared to the other school districts this one is the best to live,learn and play. It's not 100% like the video here but was a good representation of what you may encounter.

What's with the religious symbolism? I prefer my public schools without endorsement of religion. Shows a cross just before the superintendent talks about being "blessed" whatever that means.

Does the song encourage viewers to "pray" as well (at 2:40)?

The obligatory Kwanza book doesn't help. That oughtn't to be there either in a public school promotional video.

Just so you know the facts: The video was produced by a private company and no school funds were used. It highlights the great school district AND the community. Churches, boating, etc are a part of the community, there is no denying it. It's not like there is a cross on the school's front lawn or something... This is such an EXCELLENT video with an inspirational song, please don't let a 2-3 second image overshadow it.

The cross is not representing it as a Christian community as much as the yacht is not representing it as you have to have to belong to a yacht club. Because they show high school football players, you have to play football? No!! Quit being so close minded & realize there are people out there different than us. There are Churchs in Howard Suamico, and it is showing that there is a mix in the community. GROW UP PEOPLE. I don't live there, but I know people that do, and it is a beautiful place!

I love how they only show the "well off" people in howard- suamico. Where is your middle and lower class people that have lived there their whole life?? The people that lived there before they built all that crap out there.. when it was nice and quiet!! The howard - suamico school district may have good teachers, and great opportunities to advance in life with classes, but they dont' mention what its like to be on an outsider, the lower class. This reminds me of a commercial I saw for one of those cookie cutter subdivisions where the spokes woman says in closing "And the best part is I am surrounds by people just like me!"

This implication in this video that they want the community to be seen a christian one doesn't stop at the obvious cross/steeple image. No public service (like a school district) should endorse any religion or faith. The images should kept totally secular.

To address Beardsly questions I believe that this video is also showing our Community that the schools are a part of and also that Howard Suamico is a great place to live and raise a family. It is showing all aspects of Community including churchs and yes recreational activities like boating and taking advantage of all the resources around us.

I grew up in howard suamico and i loved every minute of it. The schools are fantastic and the area is even better. It has a wonderful hometown feeling, with the convenience of green bay only a short drive away. And Bay Port is one of the best highschools in the nation. They have next to no crime and a fantastic staff. I am proud to be a Bay Port Pirate! Howard Suamico will always be my home.
