Anyone know what happened to the multi millions of dollars that was donated? I dont see any new houses, or any news about it being contributed to any survivors?
I'm originally from southern California. They seem to annually burn down the state each year. Oprah's house was even threatened by one fire. Of course, its nothing compared to Victoria, just remarking on the amazing fires around the globe.

I find there is only one problem with this video,the lack of expressiveness on the CFA (Country Fire Authority), sure he mentions them, but not in detail. I had fires 30m from where I live, and without the CFA I don't think I'd have a house to live in.
Can you imagine VOLUNTEERING to put YOUR LIFE on the line to protect you community? That's what CFA firefighters do, could you?

Yes, obviously it's not fair that you got felt you got less compensation. The red-cross I'm sure donated to your losses and there are constantly relief programs going on, just not as large. Victoria experienced one of the biggest tragedies we have ever seen here, so it was much more publicised. For this reason people felt it more necessary to donate, and a lot of the relief came from neighbouring communities.
No one decided that your loss was not important. But that the Victorian loss was on a much larger scale, so the numbers are as well. No one is to be blamed for helping others. Lets not fight over this
Everyone is receiving $50,000 regardless of whether they were insured or not or they had lost a loved one. A funeral is only $5,000, I know from experience from burying my dad when I was 19. Now the debts are my responsiblity. Would it have helped if I knew someone who had died?

The bush will regenerate, that is not a problem. It's just too much money to give to people who don't need it (insured people). Put that money into rebuilding services and infastructure to relieve pressure, invest in bushfire prevention, firefighting equipment, dams, break lines, burning off every year, education....

I live near Kinglake and Saw what I would call an Atomic Bomb Cloud in the Sky about 1.30pm on Saturday the 7th Feb. I called 000 for half an hour but couldnt get through and just knew 100s of people would die. 48 degree celsius it burns just walking outside, it was a horrible day.

I live in Melbourne, Victoria, and I can tell you that in the city, the smoke comes through and once or twice it's been obviously hazy. Most of the fires are over 100 km away, but still effects the whole state. Marysville, my childhood holiday destination, and one of the strongest town communities i've ever seen, has been ruined by fires, and only 6 buildings remain...
Houses can be rebuilt but the loss of life is terrible.Lets hope we learn a thing or two after the smoke settles but I doubt it. Shires continue to turn a blind eye to the lack of fire breaks on properties and dont keep verges clear of long dry grass so when some twit dose throw a lit ciggy butt out the window, the result is quite clear. Looking forward to the Royal Commission to see what can be done to prevent this type of thing happening again.Keep your pad clear of flammable things is a start

I've heard Tower Insurance are not paying out on a few claims either so it might be up to us to rebuild their house rather than the insurance companies who some are corrupt. My next door neighbour is a cop at Whittlesea, he was working when the fire hit. I only saw him today at home, the last week he has not stopped working, sleeping out the back of the cop shop on the grass. it was 2 degrees off the hottest day recorded which was in the 1930's.

I find there is only one problem with this video,the lack of expressiveness on the CFA (Country Fire Authority), sure he mentions them, but not in detail. I had fires 30m from where I live, and without the CFA I don't think I'd have a house to live in.
Can you imagine VOLUNTEERING to put YOUR LIFE on the line to protect you community? That's what CFA firefighters do, could you?

hello Graham..I'm from Victoria and to be precise....Melbourne so I've had it pretty bad...everyday when I go to school there will be fogs and smoke everywhere since the fires were VERY NEAR to where I live...and I'm grateful that you made this video to raise awareness about the bushfires.

Yes, obviously it's not fair that you got felt you got less compensation. The red-cross I'm sure donated to your losses and there are constantly relief programs going on, just not as large. Victoria experienced one of the biggest tragedies we have ever seen here, so it was much more publicised. For this reason people felt it more necessary to donate, and a lot of the relief came from neighbouring communities.

Everyone is receiving $50,000 regardless of whether they were insured or not or they had lost a loved one. A funeral is only $5,000, I know from experience from burying my dad when I was 19. Now the debts are my responsiblity. Would it have helped if I knew someone who had died?

Of course I can, probly more than most people. But the point still had to be made. I am just ONE example of the suffering that goes unoticed and unhelped. The bush will regenerate, that is not a problem. It's just too much money to give to people who don't need it (insured people). Put that money into rebuilding services and infastructure to relieve pressure, invest in bushfire prevention, firefighting equipment, dams, break lines, burning off every year, education....

I live near Kinglake and Saw what I would call an Atomic Bomb Cloud in the Sky about 1.30pm on Saturday the 7th Feb. I called 000 for half an hour but couldnt get through and just knew 100s of people would die. 48 degree celsius it burns just walking outside, it was a horrible day.

I live in Melbourne, Victoria, and I can tell you that in the city, the smoke comes through and once or twice it's been obviously hazy. Most of the fires are over 100 km away, but still effects the whole state. Marysville, my childhood holiday destination, and one of the strongest town communities i've ever seen, has been ruined by fires, and only 6 buildings remain...

Houses can be rebuilt but the loss of life is terrible.Lets hope we learn a thing or two after the smoke settles but I doubt it. Shires continue to turn a blind eye to the lack of fire breaks on properties and dont keep verges clear of long dry grass so when some twit dose throw a lit ciggy butt out the window, the result is quite clear. You don't like my advice? Are you proud that your country has abused human rights so many times? You should show some respect for those Aborigines, why do you hate them? They should be given equal rights. In Japan we have good human rights and everybody is treated with respect. Sorry that you Australians have no freedom.

I find it funny that i regularly find Japanese people arguing with Australians about human rights on youtube. Is it because Japan are annoyed we're publicising the fact you illegally whale in our waters? Yes we need to do more to help our indigenous friends. But Japan hardly treats everyone the same, women need their own carriage on some train lines because they're groped so much. Yeah, that screams equality. Pobody's Nerfect mate. Aboriginal Australians have EXACTLY THE SAME RIGHTS as everyone else plus a few special rights exclusive only to them. You know nothing about my country. Japan's racism is LAW. (Non-Japanese people cannot become Japanese citizens & shops have signs saying "no foreigners") Here it's illegal.

There are two non-debatable things about arson: (i) it has always been with us and will always be with us, as it is an expression of anti-social, criminal or sick human behavior; and (ii) since arson-lit fires cannot be prevented, we should expect them to occur and take the necessary measures to minimize their impact, not whine about them.
Politicians searching to shift blame off themselves onto the "evil arsonists". is wrong. Blame the leaders, not the arsonists.

What Fosters sacked them! That ain't right. I've heard Tower Insurance are not paying out on a few claims either so it might be up to us to rebuild their house rather than the insurance companies who some are corrupt. Lets not forget the wildlife funds either as we have raised over 100 million dollars for the people and the wildlife carers are not even allowed in yet to see the scale of the damage or death.

Yes they caught the Bastard who lit the Churchill fire and his image has been shown on tv in all states except Vic .We saw his mug last night and yes he looks like a total looser. He has a Facebook type account where he stated "no one loves me" His residence is known.Between him and a power poll fire, the big picture
unfolds.Chopping down all the trees is not the answer and this was a combination of events. I'm sure most of Marysville residents wanted the trees left. You cant control nature.

Why do displaced residents and businesses continue to populate at-risk areas? If they wish to take the risk that's fine but DON'T EXPECT THE REST OF SOCIETY TO BAIL YOU OUT when fires or floods or earthquakes take you out, over and over again. Move to a safe locale and the problem is solved.

It is all keyword based. It grabs keywords from the page and displays related ads. Google's slogan is "don't do evil" =).

My next door neighbour is a cop at Whittlesea, he was working when the fire hit. I only saw him today at home, the last week he has not stopped working, sleeping out the back of the cop shop on the grass. I would like to thank all the men and women out there helping out, I take my hat off you. To Andrew, my neighbour, you're a couragous man and thank you with all my heart. Although what you have experienced will scar you forever, without your help more would have died. Well done Andy!
