  • I just realized this is from 2007 lol. Either way, this was great and still applies to the latest version. Although if you feel an updated lesson is called for I'd love to see that. Cheers!

  • Awesome video, simple and to the point!

  • Dude thts awesome !! Keep up the good work

  • cool!

  • I have this troubling question: What's the purpose of Fireworks? What're its strengths over other programs like Illustrator and Photoshop?? From what I know it's just a mix of both programs with a few restrictions.

  • really cool man i used to just edit the images but masking looks a whole lot easier

  • havnt photoshop? more easy

  • Thank u so much!

  • THANKS MAN.

  • @TheShokoor YW and glad you enjoyed it. I sure should update these some day. So much has changed in recent versions but Fireworks is still a great tool in any version.

  • You can do this with Photoshop also and you could probobly done better

  • @crazyshitvideo Yeah, Photoshop, Illustrator, lots of ways to do the effect. Gotta remember this screencast was created like 5 years ago. Fireworks had vector-based masking long before Photoshop. I should probably update the lesson.

BTW, checked your profile and saw your dog videos. What breed are those? They're beautiful dogs!

  • Cool tip! just what I needed! Thank you!

  • hey,

whats the difference between Fireworks and illustrator?

Because you can do actually the same with illustrator.

  • @Tutorialviewer Lots of crossover between both programs but Illustrator is considerably more powerful than Fireworks. I like Fireworks for a lot of this kind of work because it's simple and quick. Illustrator does this kind of effect as well as much more complicated shape combining and masking.

  • I have a question. Isnt gimp as good as phooshop and all that stuff?!

    Btw nic explanatioin

  • @TheFATutorials I haven't used gimp in years! But I know there are a lot of the same features in both programs. Another free program, Aviary, also includes a lot of features found in commercial graphics programs. It's an interesting time in the industry:-)

  • no es más fácil usar la herramienta lazo seleccionar y borrar ...

  • Dude that was awesome! Nice job doing the video! I will hopefully remember this for years to come!

  • This is so cool i wanna learn summink like this for my GCSE im really into Design and graphics Cool Video Dude :D x

  • Nice video, but one question, wont the eraser do that as well but faster as you can apply a soft edge to that

  • @dandarra92 You can use the eraser to soften edges, yes! Downside is you have to track your undo levels because if you go too far you won't be able to restore your images. Neither way is right or wrong, just consider the tradeoffs between both before choosing your method. Also, it's always good to have multiple options for editing.

  • love it,thanks ^^ love the tutorial

  • OMG this is soo good I remembered everything first time lol

  • thanks for the detailed info and quick response. Always nice to get the prospective from someone in the business. I appreciate it dude..

  • hey, nice video. question. what would you tell a high school student who's looking into this sort of work for their future?

  • I'd say learn all you can about basic design principles, color, composition, typography.

No matter what area you specialize in, you'll always build on the basics.

When I went to graphics school, elearning didn't really exist but today it's where I make my living. Visual communication skills are critical - in any industry.

  • nice. good job on the video.

  • Thanks!

  • he could of explained it in under 1 minute but he just likes to talk

  • I always say never use big words when a diminutive one will suffice.

  • dragged n loads and ur voice is uuber boring but helpful none the less.

  • Thanks (I think:-)

  • lol! Just use a mask! :)

  • is this what fireworks is then because i can do this already?

  • so patient - do u teach fireworks

  • @Weasel0814 I am just a passionate user of Fireworks:-) Thanks for the cool feedback!
