Exactly what I was thinking, Spotlight not only does the exact same thing (excluding the gmail feature) it does it better... and I'm not worried about Spotlight possibly collecting my computer's information for the sake of data review and ad customization.

A great side effect was that Google Desktop Search revealed data I forgot I even had on my hard drive. It was the same effect you feel when you come across old photo albums stashed away in a box.

OS preference aside, Windows (since 95), OSX, and Linux all have a search feature that is accessible via a key press combo (not 100% sure about OSX, haven't been using it enough).

Google Desktop just adds a a useless feature and resource hogging program in a system that already has a search feature.

1. type 'mail' in google desktop, then hit return: voila => Mail application boots up.

2. Now, in Spotlight, type 'mail', then hit return => yuck, a listing of all matches.

I use google desktop to launch apps quickly. Also, it finds stuff faster than Spotlight (~3-5 times faster).

Stop blindly loving Apple stuff. Yes, they do a lot of things right, but they could learn from google on this one. Oh, one last thing: gadgets are just retarded. Look, a virtual crystal ball!

this is a cool feature, sure. But if you're using a Mac with OS X, 'Spotlight' already does this service without the need to add google desktop, plus Mac already has tons of gadgets as well... it finds ANYTHING in your computre (or both of your Operating systems, within the computer) in less than a second.. - literally.
