I too am a Brit shook by American patriotism. When I visited NY I found the stars and stripes adorning seemingly every building, and even the sides of trains and buses. Never would you see anything like that in England (besides, what flag would we use, the Union Jack or St. George's?). The Yanks also have a performance of the national anthem before every sporting event. It's gotten to the point where I know the words to the U.S. anthem better than I do "God Save The Queen".
