In Ireland everyone has access to healthcare. WORKERS pay 4-5% of their income as a health levy but also have to purchase compulsory health insurance, pay doctor visits and prescriptions. The health levy pays for healthcare, doctor visits & prescriptions for the population without health insurance! if workers need a consultation or op they join the same waiting lists as the great unwashed who don't pay a cent. This is the system that Obama is implementing in the US. You will end up paying twice!

my dad is a disabled vet and is fine w/his va visits. i'm not necessarily for universal health care, but i also don't think it is right for private insurance co to rip people off either. y should i pay almost $500 each month out of my pocket for healthcare for a family of 3 when some lazy ass can get medicaid for free and make as many babies as they want. do you know i still have to fight the insurance co on some bills as little as $90. y should i have to pay out the ass? look at the other side

I live in a country with state run healthcare, in fact after Canada I think we were the earliest country to adopt this and my problem is not so much with the service (although its shit, I have personally had to wait 5 weeks for an appointment with my GP) its with the monopolistic nature of state run healthcare and the complete lack of accountability, you will be stripped of your sovereignty as a consumer once you enter state run healthcare, mark my words.

And if you don't have a job. In my state, they offer a health care subsidy. This is just a way for the government to control health care. And with Obama, that could be really dangerous. In the Dominican Republic, political enemies don't get health care. I wouldn't put it past Obama to do that either....

Good point. Everyone's complaining about the potential of how crappy it could be, but I think it's meant for the people who can't get insurance... As a patient of mental health services without any insurance, I wouldn't be able to afford medication without the government faculties that issue them. It's not stellar service or anything to write home about, but I stay functional, which is the whole point. So what if it means you have to spend the day at the doctor, it beats just living in pain.

When you're a contractor and your employer doesn't provide the insurance, it gets expensive. From your response it doesn't seem like you've been in my situation. I'm covered by my current employer, so I don't need it anymore. Besides, what do I pay taxes for if not public programs like this.

-Inadequate infrastructure and facilities to handle current troop level services...The VA has been this way, since prior to the Vietnam conflict.

As an government administration, the VA's model is a failure.
