  • Hebrews 10:26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,

27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

1John 3:6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

Gen 6:6, Ezek 9:6 Sin breaks God's heart. You must not willfully sin.

go to sermonindexdotnet and look up Milton Green, become a true disciple.

  • Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses.

    Revelation 19..

  • WARNING!! Brian McLaren is not a REAL Christian! He is making up lies about the Bible and is now attacking Christians for believing in Jesus and his return and denies that The state of Israel and the jewish people are God's chosen as stated in the Bible. Brian Mclaren is also Obama's new assistant on a new bill passed called the hate crime bill and stated he wants to destroy the Christian majority and its belief as Jesus will return. He is a Heretic! Brian Mclaren is a wolf in sheeps clothing

  • you claimed that Mclaren was "reshaping the Bible"

I was not disagreeing with you - I was pointing out that every interpretation is in some way a reshaping of the Bible and that Mclaren was no different than those who had come before...and no different than you if you would actually be honest with yourself.

  • People have always been trying to reshape the Bible and conform it to their views - McLaren, Bell, and others are the latest in a long line.

    Ho hum.

  • i agree, Nyn11Tech - guys like Origenm, Augustine, Aquinas, Luther, Calvin, Wesley, Barth, Edwards, Schleiermacher, and preachers like Graham, Piper, Macartthur....trying to reshape the Bible to conform it to their views.

Give me a break, man, do you honestly think you read the Bible without bias? Are you somehow above the rest of us in that you can remove your own personal history, experiences and culture and come to the Bible and not bring your baggage into it???

    rubbish.

  • What I said was "People have always been trying to reshape the Bible and conform it to their views - McLaren, Bell, and others are the latest in a long line.

    Ho hum. "

What you claim I said is different. You thus raise a straw-man argument.

McLaren is doing some pick-and-choose reshaping. Whether anyone else has done that is irrelevant - whether McLaren has is the point of today's discussion. My assertion is that he does, and the proof of the pudding is, as they say, in the eating.

  • Brian Mclaren, sorry if this offends you is part of a group called the emergent Church. And what they push for is "repainting Jesus" in order for Him to seem to be less offensive and more like us in our post modern culture. Without trying to sound abrasive, This man has downgraded the Authority and believability of the scripture(Gods Word) And he will be held accountable for that. Jesus told us that the world will hate us for holding to the truth lets not compromise the The Gospel to be popular

  • wgat comic book have you been reading?????

  • I read an interesting verse today: Luke 12:49. Jesus says, "I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!" Not only is Jesus the awesome warrior and judge revealed in the Bible, but he was longing for that day even before he completed his work on the cross. I imagine Brian McLaren skips that verse in his messages.

  • actually, no - i have personally heard him address this directly.

unfortunately, we cannot forget that the division that Jesus brings is caused by the world's reaction to a life lived in radical contrast to its ways.

for example, just a few years after Jesus spoke these words, they came true - as roman families were split apart because Christians refused to pledge allegiance to Caesar, refused to take up the sword, and began crossing social status lines by feeding their neighbors

  • exactly what authority does McClaren think we use to find out who the real Jesus is?

  • the Bible

  • oh really, the Bible...ONLY?

  • ummmmmm - to discover the real Jesus???? well, yeah - are there some other texts that you have heard mclaren use to discover Jesus?

  • Driscoll was being half-way sarcastic there. Plus, it's not like he was saying anything wrong. Have anyone read Revelation 19? Thats the scariest and most awesome and frightening picture that I can imagine....and it's of Jesus. It should humble us...

  • i am humbled by every picture of Jesus.

rev. 19 is jewish apocalyptic and should be studied as such, instead of the way its been presented by the pop-culture inspired, modernistic, neo-conservative Left Behind series.

imagine the scene: Jesus on the cross, suffering, bleeding - he lifts his head to grimly say, "you just wait till i come back..."

oh wait, no i think it was more like, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do..."

oh yes, i AM humbled. we are nothing like him

  • I understand what you are saying, but there is a difference between the first time Jesus comes...that one is to not judge the world but to bring salvation. The second coming displays the character and role of Christ as well. He comes to judge and to carry out the justice of God. There needs to be balance and each Scripture needs to be treated. Im not just trying to defend Driscoll(although he does a good job of honoring the texts). Jesus isnt a sissy. that was his point.

  • yeah, i often like driscoll and find agreement with him on many things. sometimes his style rubs me the wrong way, but then, that's just personality.

and i understand Jesus being the judge and carrying out justice and all...but i would probably add some distinctions in the way some of those passages are interpreted (both sides of this issue tend to make symbolic or literal whatever suits their agenda)

  • i will say that its slightly offensive when it is insinuated that peace and non-violence are "sissy" characteristics - i would argue that it takes much more strength and character to refuse to take up the sword.

  • well, I would agree with you there. Blessed are the meek. I agree with what you say about Driscoll. I feel sometimes he's a little irreverent. but all of us are. And he's repentent when he does something wrong. He wants to do the right thing and honor scripture. I respect that a lot. And I was in the audience when he gave that sermon and in his defense, I dont think he was mocking the meekness of Jesus(power under control), rather the weak Jesus that is often portrayed in todays culture.

  • I like the spirit of this guy.
