  • @Zgiadz is it really shortened?

  • @lobitas3399 Yes...The original version by Edgar Allan Poe has a few more lines :) like twenty more I think...

  • Today on Caste-Fest in Lisse here, saw then perform. Just as good as this.

It's quite the coincidence it's EXACTLY 1 year (7 august) I first heard this song...

Thanks for the great experience Omnia. For ever more!

  • im proud to say im pagan

  • @MasonKayneMacRae im proud 2 to be pagan

  • Each time I read the poem I do this with the melody of this song in my head. I love the song, even though it's a pity it doesn't have the full poem as lyrics. Also, with all due respect, they look a bit childish. - As in, overdone on the gothic thing.

  • @WebGremlin if you knew anything about them, you would realize that for one this is their stage effects and second that it is not meant to represent goth at all but the long standing facial markings of ancient pagan traditions.

  • @LadyPegasus1963 I do not know much about them, that's a given. Nevertheless I find it overdone, regardless of whatever reason. That doesn't mean I don't like them or their music. It's my opinion. And to finalize; genuine pagan traditions did/do not include such theatrical additions either.

  • @WebGremlin no, i didn't mean to imply that they do or did include such. I am unsure what it is you consider theatrical production by them. If you are referring to the facial symbols, then this is actually mild in comparison to many of the more elaborate facial artistry done in pagan history. Many of the high holidays include full body artistry and not all of it is removable ( such as branding, tattooing, and piercings, all of which are a part of pagan history and even in some current forms).

  • If you haven't heard their live clip of this on the dvd you should do so now! :O

  • Selbst für mich als österreicher hat dieses Lied etwas Magisches an sich.

  • @Ramscha1 Wieso sollte es das denn nicht, weil du Österreicher bist? xD

  • This is not only words and notes, there is something more. Can't explain what's happening to me while listenning to this - no word can -, but... wow.

Always thought there was some kind of magic in Poe's words. And Omnia found how to show it.

  • Art in his purest beeing. !

  • the first time i was listening to this song /poem ... i was like WOW ! ... after yrs ^^ its the same feeling ... !

  • so beautiful =)

  • Absolutely a very nice poet/song. As earlier said, they keep the Celtic soul alive. I love this! Thanks to Congei :D. Keep up the good job, mate :).

  • is there any chance for us to have a poet like Poe again?

    'nevermore'

  • thank you Omnia to keep the celtic soul alive, Hail the woodsy lord

  • @jin54363 Well, not anymore, really. Their music changed -a lot-. Too much for my taste, to be honest. But I do love the older songs.

  • @blackmyth

    why you say so?

  • @jin54363 Because they use quite a lot electric instruments and their music just isn't what it used to be. Two of the old members quit, which caused a lot of problems (not very nice things towards one of the persons leaving).

  • I love their face tattoos.

  • I wish they would do the first 18 lines of the General Prologue of The Canterbury Tales in Middle English. It would sound so awesome, like Poe's poem, they have a natural lyrical quality

    ~Whan that Aprill!

  • The lyrics of this aren't exactly the same as the original poem. They're similar, but there's a lot of curious discrepancies.

  • @BunnyInAGasMask Just noticed it. Yet, I can't say I'm dissatisfied with the results.

  • :DDD My new best friend is the replay button!

It's just too beautiful!! How could you not enjoy this?! Amazing!!

  • usually I'm stubborn on listening to only death/black metal, but I admit this shit is awesome.

  • Absolutely beautiful, found this on Druidcast, then looked them up and found this again. Amazing poem, beautiful performance.

  • @sorrowsingsoftly Whats Druidcast?

  • @ADyingFaith It's a podcast, you can look them up on Itunes. It's from OBOD.

  • This is wonderful... where can I get their music? I checked iTunes and there's only 2 songs. ><

  • This song gives me goose bumps, every time I listen to it :)

  • ALSO LOVE THE RAVEN, AND WALTZINBLACK, BY THE STRANGLERS, A DIFFERENT KIND OF SOUND BUT PURE JOY TO LISTEN TO.

  • @melodiantime CAPS LOCK IS AWESOME, ISNT IT?!

  • YOU TUBE STRIKES WONDERS. YET AGAIN, FOR KNOWLEDGE OF GREAT WORKS OF MUSIC.I' VE NEVER HEARD THESE GUYS BEFORE, REALLY GOOD. I ALSO LOVE ' IN THE PORT OF AMSTERDAM ' -JACQUES BREL AND NEW MODEL ARMY. STUFF.

  • My favorite poem of all time by my favorite gothic writer by one of the best bands that I've heard in a long time, can you say EPIC!!!!

Justin Bieber's got nothing on this. XP

    R.I.P Poe!

  • A little bit chopped poem but the execution is briliant!:D

  • This is awesome.

  • edgar allan awesome! :)

one of my faves from him

  • too bad they cut out some of the best parts, but if they wouldn't it would have taken over 15 minutes. not that I would mind... more omnia ;-)

  • most perfect song i even heard,

  • Holy... shit...

  • Edgar Allan Poe FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I had never heard of Omnia, but my daughter just pointed me to this video, and it is absolutely wonderful.

I'm now off to itunes on a mission!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh God. How beautifull! Poe's lyrics are like music themselves...

  • @DesperateTry The band actually removes several of the original stanzas and merges other ones that are repetitive together to form new stanzas. So while Poe's lyrics are very lyrical and musical, it should be understood that this is a performance version of Poe's work, and not simply a direct reading that is sung to music. In other words, this version is heavily revised from the original.

  • @TheBenortlip If you ask me 'heavily revised' is a bit over dramatic. I actually think there only is a slight difference. :)

  • @MaryMiscarriage I perform this version of it at open mic nights. One night I forgot my copy and tried to use the original. There are whole verses left out, minor changes to phrasings, and shifting and splicing within the verses. The original is 18 stanzas, and Omnia's version is only 13. Now, we could argue semantics over what constitutes heavily revised, but I think shortening it by almost a quarter counts.

  • @TheBenortlip Do you have a copy of sheet music or tab for it? I would love to be able to play it, but I suck at playing by ear...

  • nevermore... nevermore... this song if perfect. the poetry of poe, marhematically created, but so very beautiful is great on this music. those who don`t like this are in trouble, because they don`t regognise the beauty and they are poor souls carved in the stone of the reality, sad mortals without the poetry feeling that make us,the likers live with the angels..

  • months have passed since last time I made music...wtf..

hey guys please check my music on my profile...I've made some acoustic pagan celtic songs which came out not that bad..

  • beautiful... I just wish I had more time to read, to think, to play music, and to produce beautiful things like this...

    "Quoth the raven never more.."

I hope my inspiration will be back someday..

  • God, this so awesome!!

  • I listen to this almost every day. I remember the first time I listened to it, I replayed it for hours!

  • How can you not like this, tis Edgar Allan Poe and tis good music!

  • This is a story by Edgar Allen Poe, right?

  • @JesterColonist That's corekt :D

  • I have listened to this many times and I just now noticed that they changed the bust upon which the raven perches from one of Pallas to one of Eris.

  • this always gives me the chills

  • I'm very fond of this, but I'm a bit furious that they haven't been accurate with the text (original The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe). I love that poem and memorized it recently, so I noticed.

Actually it's quite long for a poem: 18 strophes, each consisting of 6 lines.

They left out the entire 4th strophe, aswell as the 9th, 11th and 13th. The first two lines of the 14th strophe were combined with the last 4 of the 12th. The rest of both of those is left out.

And some sole words are wrong, too.

  • @Mithrilelb Bands usually change the poem lyrics to make it easier to sing - poetry does not always combine perfectly with music.

  • I love Edgar Allan Poe's 'The Raven'. this is just pure beauty

  • If only I could give this more than a single thumbs up. Amazing on so many levels.

  • @hallows99 There are times I wish I was Ganesha, so that I could thumb up more than once. Omnia makes me feel in such a way. They're great.

  • @Maergensargoth err, who's Ganesha?

  • @luna4ever36 Ganesha is a hindu elephant-shaped god with four arms. There are ones with six or even more, but this one was the first to come to my mind.

  • @Maergensargoth Avalokiteśvara with thousand arms would be more suitable for thumbing up~

  • @Zanmefagalion I had that god in mind, just couldn't memorize his name.

  • @Zanmefagalion lol, the buddha with so many arms.=D

  • The harp...the haaaarp!!!

  • I love the crying bit at the end.

  • It seems like tht We need 19 shrappels and a shotgun...

great song and defnently the greatest story ever ♥
