  • Fuck your subjectivity, guys.

  • i love how all the sounds feel like they're completely different with each other in some chaotic discord, then they all just mix together

    one of my favorite things

  • The best band in this galaxy right now

  • total tripe. the music would be nice if she would just shut up and drop the hello kitty act.

    wait, i take that back.

    total tripe.

  • So this is what they listen to...fascinating!

  • This song wouldn't feel / mean the same without this lyrics

  • I don't get it.

  • Deerhoof is awesome.

  • this stuff hurts my head, last video i'm watching of it.

    fail.

  • Nice recording for a bootleg :)

  • I love everything about this. I just... I just love it. I don't know why, but I love it.

  • damn i hate the vocals but the instumentals are original and great. i dont think i can bring myself to liking them.

  • pakakpakapanponpooon

  • I really have to say... I never EVER heard of the pitchfork until a few months ago..

Before hand I was searching for bands like this all the time.. I dig pAper chAse, radiohead, arctic monkeys, and a lot of other bands that I now find the pitchfork had already found before hand..

This isn't my favorite band but they dont suck completely.. They have balls, I will give them that.

  • the middle sounds kinda like daydream nation

  • ladies n gentlemen.... the millionth female bass player cliche

  • Actually, they' still to this day only have a small audience, and the NME aren't exactly showering them with praise (cos them journalist guys are tone deaf idiots and have no idea what is good music), so where you get this idea from I'll never know.

I think you're actually describing the overrated-ness of bands like Actic Monkeys rather than underrated-ness of bands like Deerhoof.

  • Jeez. What's everyone hating about? Trying to say this is bad music without knowing anything about music. Well, let me tell you, I dedicated my life to the study of music, and this is very well-done. It just takes a "different set of ears" to listen to it. Not everything has to be the freaking Beatles. That would be boring as crap.

  • srsly people are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy the fuck to idealized with the notion of what is "music"

its like art galleries were busy telling everyone what was art, and what wasnt

  • This shit is amazing. Our band is just wannabees.

  • hmm dog on the sidewalk is only 1 min long. What's the other song they are playing after that?

  • @andrmyk the end of "the last trumpeter swan"

  • Experimental. Britney Spears is comedy.

  • Agreed

  • the thing about deerhoof isn't the music perse, its the personality. hard to explain. I didn't like them, but I just barely saw them at the sasquatch festival 09, and there's just some element that's so entertaining and love-able. Which is something I think you can only experience from seeing them live

  • they sound a lot like blonde redhead ftw?

  • no wtf

  • not a lot.. actually.. i was making a small comparison.. just a little though

  • maybe only coz of the female jap vocals?

  • cooool

  • before u open u'r mouths to insult something u don't understand, OPEN YOU'R MINDS!

  • I fully understand if people like this. I really, truly do, but I can't sit here and pretend these people are talented. At all. There's no rhythm, I strongly feel like the lyrics are just in there so they have SOMETHING for vocals, and they all sound like they took two lessons in their respective instruments and hit the stage.

If you like this, that's great for you, but...uggh. They need to stick to songs like Kidz are so Small, and they need a sound guy. Desperately.

  • I like the guitar, and drums... The singer sucks. The songs sucks.

  • Wow... yoko ono took a shit.

  • your mom took a shit ! and i put it back in her butt !

  • deerhoof is my most favorite band, each song of them is amazing!

  • the rythm doesnt match at all the changes are so abrubt and so bad it hurts my ears

  • hurts good

  • most simple lyrics, ever. dog on a sidewalk BRILLIANT!

  • Wait until you hear "Panda panda panda" only one word, easy to memorize the whole song, panda panda panda panda pan-da pan

  • wrong.. she says china and uh something else at one point. COMPLICATED!

  • Deerhof are interesting to listen too and quite entertaining too, which can't be said for 99% of recyled pop music and lazy rock cliche bands on youtube these days, so they get my 5 stars! The spirits of The Slits and the Magic Band are in there somewhere...

  • cat on a side walk cat on a side walk i saw....

    bung bung bung bung

  • Deerhoof are so way shway! I love this song!

  • I hate it when people mistake half-assedry/incohesion for creativity. You could get the same effect by visiting a construction site...this shit is so disjointed it pains me to think of all the ignorant douchebags thumbing it up to make themselves feel cool.

  • The masses must see this shit for what it truly is. Rotten feces.

  • "Shit Sandwich" - Larissanpw, you took the words right out of my mouth...now to elaborate...I wouldnt be wasting my time on these comments if I didnt believe this group of rejects straight out of a Jersey mental institute who are excreting this horrid excuse for 'art'(read: LOL) didnt need to have the wrath of heaven rained down upon these heretics. But I am, and I do. This calls for crosses and kerosene.

  • "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds."

    -Albert Einstein

  • YES......that one surely came to mind NoGuitar, thanks!

  • Yes indeed, my spirit is great.

  • The only thing violent about this is the music itself. It's entirely too easy to quote a famous person and mutate it to validate your own views and use it to disregard others' opinions, despite that's exactly what you're fighting against in the first place.

  • In fact there are paintings that resemble a five year olds' drawings' that could be found n some gallery's in New York. Remember, Music is considered to be the highest form of creative expression in many countries to many artists as the most artistic form of communication. If you discount the intention behind the sound then you are missing the point of music in the first place.....

  • It would be a shock to discover this sad larissanpw appreciates punk, particularly 70's original British punk, which is just as larissanpw described Deerhoof as "a five year olds' crayon drawing" (except performed by more politically aware and angry children;) Anyway that is a perfect description of Deerhoof and original music in any sense. Usually the beginning is most beautiful and misunderstood in it's simplistic chaos as even a childs' drawing may be to some. (to be continued)

  • Furthermore, larissanpw is nothing more than a cranky old woman who shits herself relentlessly.........i bet this person is one of those aspiring musicians who has an apt ear for technically "sound" music yet hasn't a shred of creative talent. That being said, the only way for this person to vent their agony of a morbid existence is to belittle another simply for their musical taste regardless of their sophisticated , educated perception of sound and emotion in unison....(to be continued)

  • I love that this band confuses so many so called "music snobs" or "enthusiasts" to the point where they desperately search for reasons why they love or hate them to the point where these arguments defeat each other........proving the otherworldly genius of this band;)

  • WTF?

I reckon there was a PHILESTINE convention and I wasn't invited(le sob..)! In case your mamma didn't tell ya, musical taste is SUBJECTIVE arsewipe. I don't remember asking for your unsolicited rampage of bafoonery masquerading as a comment either, now did I? Newsflash to DIPSHIT...I don't take orders from YOU, so if ya don't like the band,AND it's too eclectic for your conventional, tight ass, good riddance, and bon voyage.

Now please would you be ever so kind as to STFU, thank you.

  • It's just sad. The drummer and guitarist, they're insane! They are so freaking talented, and they're stuck with her!! She's just... disappointing. And why are people so worked up about her? SHES NOT TALENTED. SHE SINGS A RANDOM LINE OVER AND OVER. THATS REPETITION, NOT SKILL.

  • the guitarist is lame. the drummer is good. the singer? she is awful as a singer and horrible on the bass as well. overall, there are no songs and they are not doing anything that hasn't been done before by those that are far more skilled. being experimental is one thing, but pretending to be experimental when you're just a hack is something else altogether. this is just lame trite indie garbage that is cooler then it is good.

  • *sniiiiiiiiif* ah. fresh ideas for music. refreshing to hear :]

  • this is FREAKing awesome

  • What Album Is This From? I Really Like It!

  • Milk Man, but the album version is very different than it is here...

  • I actually really like the music, but really can't listen to more than two songs in a row and even thats a struggle, just because I really don't like Matsuzaki's vocals. I just find them annoying. Could listen to them for ages if it was just instrumental, or with another vocalist. Otherwise it's a chore.

  • this shit is fucking horrid

    I'd shoot that bitch

  • how about we make a music vid of me farting some beats?

  • omggg 1:01...so hot!

  • This is pretty goddamn creative.

I'm betting that most of the haters don't understand music... probably revere Yngwie Malmsteen or something.

  • Shut up you pretentious twat.

  • no, the problem is that most of the fans dont understand music. there may be some who can't stand to listen to this garbage because they have perfect pitch and the singer can't sing in key and the guitarist is out of tune half the time as well. the other problem is that the guitarist simply echoes the childish melody lines. it's pretty amateurish stuff. also, can't stomach a bass player who plays with a pick. what hacks and what hype.

  • man i am so sick of people's overall widespread inability to appreciate this band because of their "annoying vocalist." her vocals are a perfect offset to their energetic, spasmodic POP music (she certainly wouldnt work if they werent, in essence, a pop band) and i cant believe the people that hate on her vocals cant at least be won over by the incredible music that's going on behind her

  • it would help if the guitarist didn't simply echo the lame lame lame melody over and over. also, it would certainly help if there was at least some semblence of a song somewhere anywhere. it would also help if she had some semblence of a decent vocal tone and sang in pitch.

  • I wholeheartedly agree. Now excuse me while I write a Deerhoof song.

Cats on stick, Cats on stick, Cats on stick, Cats on stick...

  • it's not about the lyrics

  • People are scared of real creativity! Look back into musical history and so many bands were written off for being too unusual and they are the ones we all adore now! Watch this space!

  • A Dream 2lst century indie band. The FUSION of musical influences manifesting is astonishing(Beat Happening/John Zorn/Television/The Jam/Velvets/Yoko Ono/Hendrix/Sonic Youth etc...angular harmonics of the vocalist fit perfectly + her gestures(without instruments)are an intuitive expression of the rythmic nuances of the music...When Mr.Bowie says something kicks serious ass, he's ALWAYS right on target. All I can say is....WOW. Check out their live in Rapids, MI vid..posted by plasticson..amazing.

  • you are reading into it too much. it's the musical equivalent of a 5 year old's crayon drawing. it's illiterate music for the musically illiterate. all that can be said is "shit sandwich."

  • I just came across this...

So much Energy and prog. I'm amazed!!! :D Love this<3

  • im liking the hofner bass

  • my religion teacher sophomore year used this song when he had to watch people in detention... he put this song on a loop at full volume for the whole hour and a half. all the students there were out of it for the rest of the week

  • I find this music quite worthless. Maybe because I'm more of a metal fan... But the vocals are just so... annoying.

  • Heh - one of my fav bands. But man, she must be super, super tiny, if that Hofner bass is that big compared to her.

Dang these guys are so creative, people who don't like this are probably into top 40 crap like Good Charlotte,GreenDay, and other crap like that.

  • dom peeple don getit

  • Fuck u guys Deerhoof is the shit they are one of the most musically talented bands live they are so fucking tight they are one of my favorite live bands FUCK U PLAYER HATING WHOREs

  • @TheRainbowClintons

Kudos for telling it like it IS....amen

  • i love them because it's nothing like the cd version thats great

  • Satomi is wonderful!

  • This band is fucking crazy. They're like a more interesting Blonde Redhead, or something.

  • She's beautiful!

  • Oh man, not in person. She's so pretty.

  • Beauty, as well as musical tastes, are in the eye of the beholder. Further, some women find Tom Waits attractive, so maybe I and others find Satomi pretty because of her talent. In either case, I disagree! :)

  • 1) she is pretty

    2) not all female singers have to be gorgeous, i mean they are famous for her voice and playing abilities

  • I honestly don't see what's impressive about this band at all. It's a little fob-girl making cute little yelps while the guitar player plays dissonant chords in the background. The drummer's pretty fun to watch though.

  • I think that's kind of the attraction of them, their so repulsive to what people normally expect that they're beautiful in their own right. It's sort of like if a really ugly person walked into a room, even though they're ugly, you have to keep looking. Plus, Deerhoof makes some of the most incredible like melodies and they seem to be truly interested in their music and just the whole concept of sound.

  • SUCK MY DICK

  • dog on the sidewalk / the last trumpeter swan (much shorter version for trio set up)

  • Oh awesome vid, I was at that show. Incredible indeed.

  • OH, this was with Fiery Furnaces! I saw them with Deerhoof, too.

Deerhoof was so much better though.

  • I've never seen Deerhoof either heard of them before. Greg is the most pleasant man, that's for sure! They play for quite a some time and still so enthusiastic while Furnaces show some signs of wearing out.

  • Yeah man, I noticed the same thing. And he's a beast on the kit! I could watch him play forever.

  • I saw them in Toronto!

  • But did you meet Greg? I did! :D

  • You are so lucky! I missed it since it was 19+.
