  • Wait a minute. One of those tubas look suspiciously bigger?

  • this song gives me a musical organism everytime i listen to it ..!!<3

  • CRHS beasted this song (: I should know because we played it recently !

  • Trombone piece = nightmare iam 12 years old

  • I hate it how everyone brags about how amazing they are ! Let's just appreciate how breath taking this was!

  • I am playing bass clarinet in this video. I loved Hazo and the song. It was an awesome experience!

  • HAHAHA and the funny thing is that i am in high school and we are playing this for our highschool band concert

  • I wanna play this for our spring concert in Symphonic Band so BAAAAAAAAADDDDDD.

  • I got a perfect score at my New York all-state band audition for trumpet and was only an alternate. This is fucking amazing..makes me kinda sad though

  • when you make all state how many days do you get to prepare? in honor band you only get three days and you basically sightread everything the first go over the second and review the third before the concert. Do they give the music one day and a month later the concert?

  • OMG i'm auditioning for honor band tomorrow i'm sure i'll make it. last year i made it but didn't make all state but i'm going to savannah this year!!

  • 4:49 - 5:30 -- breathtaking

  • I would have to agree with the person everyone is arguing with. The flute solo in the beginning was terrible. Read the actual piece of music and the know way Samuel Hazo taught it, she apparently didn't play it right. It did suck.

  • @bandrocks2010 actually..the flute solo at the beginning is allowed to be played somewhat freely and interpretively..i highly doubt Hazo would let an all-state flute soloist "suck" up the solo. If it wasn't to his liking, he could simply ask the second chair to play it instead since the talent runs so deep in Georgia's all-state bands

  • 4:49 = chills every time. Something tells me that when Hazo rights a piece, he writes it to be performed by enormous ensembles like this one.

  • This song sent chills down my spine... I love it =)

One of the best things I have ever heard in my life.

Hazo is a genius composer and This group is very skilled. Thank you for sharing this =)

  • I love the stick heights of the percussionist wearing the white dress shirt during the short percussion break. quintuple mother forte???

  • i see see tubas, trombones, and bassoons, WHERE ARE THE EUPHONIUMS

  • this sounds better than the recording. Just amaziiiing. wow. (:

  • jeez this band is awesome. the low brass is rippin it up!!

  • @sliux109 I think you're listening through a plastic cup. And this band is better than anything you have been in I'm sure. What instrument do you play? Percussion?

  • @SoccerTrumpet350Z

im guessing that sliux109 plays flute, or else why would s/he complain about the amazing flutist here?

  • Also great oboe solo at 5:30!

  • Awesome flute solo! So glad she's with us at Reinhardt University!

  • 3 people clapped on beat 4, not the & of 4.

  • @sliux109 Is that a joke? It sounded just as good as our all state band!

  • @adkinsadam1

it just sounded like a solid high school band, there are high school band NOT all-state or anything that can easily play like this if not better

  • @sliux109 U SUCK.

  • @Forevaitalia

lol, looks like someone just lost his temper...

  • @sliux109 *her temper.....:)

  • either the sound was off, or that was a very bad all-state band

  • TRUMPETS FOR THE WIN!

  • LUCKY!!!!! But well deserved playing like that!

  • FLAWLESS :D

  • Nice! :)

  • First off Saxophone for the win ;)

  • i play clarinet 1 on this peice, and wow its hard but its soooooooooo fun hahaha

  • PERCUSSION

  • 3:24 sick ass passage!

  • this song is fun to play, honors band here in MN did this song at an arts festival and i was lucky enough to be a part of this

  • 4:49 is SO EPIC! I play contra clarinet on this song. Easily the most fun song we're playing right now.

  • 2 people dislikd this video because they couldnt hear due to the fact they had lil wayne playing 2 loud

  • Woodwinds were awesome! The French Horns killed it! :D Too bad my school's french horn sucks >_>

  • @RawzumWalk haha, Story of my life.. My school's horn section drags the whole band down...

  • "A musical illustration of culture in the Middle-East ."

Culture in the Middle-East reminds me a lot of Tetris. :3

Either way, this is a wonderful piece.

  • Im sorry to all you Trumpet players out there, but as you listen to this piece you should obviously notice that French Horn is the Instrument that rapes them all out there! ;) Im currently playing this piece in my very prestigious high school band. I obvoiusly play French Horn but dont get me wrong Trumpets! I still love Trumpet! I also play Trumpet in Jazz band so I also know how sexy they are! haha

  • @ImuhMusician i am a trumpet player, and i made allstate last year. i must admitt. the french horns are killin it! Very impressive

  • I made the band for the first time this year. Can't wait

  • Allstate Trumpets ftw!!!! That first part will be me soon..

  • Nice unison clap 3:03. I just caught that.

  • I love the trumpets at 3:30. .... And this entire piece.

  • Trumpet parts are INSANE!!

  • I go to a college and we played this for our first fall concert and this sounds way better.

  • Flutes all the way! this song is a great challenge

  • percussion wooo

  • Can someone post a video of the etude for 9th and 10th grade for trumpet

  • does anyone have the music to this? lol.

  • Oh my gosh having the composer conduct you while you play is like the best thing ever. Especially since that's Mr. Samual Hazo. Jeez.

  • Our next marching band show is actually based on Arabesque. Pretty sweet.

  • THAT CLAP WAS SO SOLID OMG. lololol

  • oh and by the way... BRASS TOOK THIS PEACE BY A LANDSLIDE. Also I love the entrance to this peace.

  • wow this peace rocks. I have to see if I can add this to the list for site reading and if it works out then I may use it at district this year.(student teaching at a performing arts high school)

  • The percussionists are having a field day @ 3:00. So intense!

  • Bud Herseth on playing trumpet- "Always be heard - no matter the dynamics."

Trumpets owned this piece. Hands down.

  • That base drum is intensity!!!

We are doing this piece as well!! Smiles :)

  • Samuel R. Hazo is probably one of the best composers for concert band that I have ever known...

By the way, about the instrumentation, I thought I heard something akin to a wardrum in the original recording... or is that just the grand casa and timpani?

  • Gah I love this soonng!

  • Stellar playing, but the typical phrygian dominant/harmonic minor crap got old pretty soon after the flute solo (which was GREAT). It's pretty hard to play authentic middle eastern music with concert instrumentation. This is probably the worst compositional effort from Hazo I've ever heard.

  • Comment removed

  • @RSRop0 please eat shit and die. This music rocks, and you cant say that this is the worst compositional effort from him. show me your compositions, and then your comment can be accredited.

  • @2cello That argument is pointless. Anybody with sufficient knowledge of a subject can critique it. I'm assuming you also think everybody who engages in musical or literary criticism of an author without surpasing that author's work is also "unaccredited" and should "eat shit and die?" And anybody who writes reviews of restaurant or musicians (or composers) should also just quit? When you're mature enough to disagree with someone without sounding like a three year old please respond.

  • haha. ur right, but i was just kinda saying that its hard not to like this piece, You have to enjoy music for what it is, and not get all theoretical. After taking AP theory, I have trouble listening to symphonic music and simply enjoy rather than listening for chord patterns and dissonance and time signatures.

  • I feel sorry for you, because I really enjoyed this. It must suck not being able too, because this song is pretty epic in my opinion.

  • yeah, I was totally in this ensemble and didn't know they posted it. Haha. I'm the overly expressive 3rd chair flute. LOL. I'll admit, we did pretty awesome.

  • That flute solo was great... the bend at :46 was fucking godlike.

  • we're playing this @ our concert on monday...its such a fun piece but pretty hard (i play 2nd flute)...i love the low brass part @ 3:10...u guys did an awesome job :D

  • it was a tad fast but other than that FLAWLESS!! :D

  • Wow...

Why can't our school band have a full deck?!

Total BAMF, and the LOW BRASS DOES PWN ALL!

I play the euphonium; can't wait to play it for Music in the Parks!

  • This piece is so awesome! i love the low brass melody at 3:08. I cant wait to play this at our concert next month

  • look at in the flute section on the right. at 5:52 she really gets into it :)

  • @kyle3410 that's a he!!! I know him

  • @kyle3410 omg my b

  • 5:08 - 5:20....... Most awesomest feeling of the night.

  • My high school wind ensemble just played this, being a euphonium player, i love the low brass

  • our symphonic band played this for high school festival.

i'm not in that group but all i can think is that it's torture on flutes.

  • Two of my friends had dinner with Mr. Hazo that night

  • My band got to meet the guy who wrote this piece!

We were in our festival sight reading room for our middle school performance and he happened to come in and comment on our performance before we played our sightreading. He's a great guy who writes great music.

As for your band, nice job! It sounded amazing! And I agree with podbuster0... if you can pull this off with a group it's a great achievement :)

  • My school band is playing this piece and I absolutely love it! I play the tenor saxophone part which is a mix of mostly low brass parts and some of the higher flute parts. This song is such a great song!!!

  • dude, im playing this in my band at the moment on the E horn, my god is it a bitch :D semi-demi quavers flailing all over the place plus your on the offbeats an you just gotta keep breathing man :D

  • dude those percussionists are like cavemen back there with their arms flailing like that!

  • i played there yesterday!

  • This piece is truly magnificent, in my opinion. The high school band I'm a part of is tackling this piece... One measure in the song is somewhat ridiculous: 48 thirty-second notes in a 6/8 time measure. But this performance was very impressive!

  • @ecoINFP Its actually a 6/4 bar, not a 6/8.

  • the trumpet is very high... how they did??

  • By using air.

  • this is one BAMF of a piece... the musicianship required is high, but for groups like this that can pull it off it's very, very enjoyable.

  • My high school's symphonic band is doing it for Contest this year... It's so fun to play.

  • I actually played this for my Regional Honor Band about six hours ago now. I must admit, I was a little disappointed. I was hoping for more low brass, especially tuba because their part is truly incredible. But holistically, this was a beautiful performance.

  • 2 things:

    1. LOW BRASS PWNS ALL!!!

    2. So, this is Mr. Samuel Hazo? Eh, pretty impressive!

  • @howee123456 euphoniums rule

  • @tswans1234 YESSS!!!! Dude that's what I play! WOO!

  • @howee123456 Represent

  • A great performance. A Fun work. Love seeing students so excited about making new music happen!

  • The only comment that i can make on this, is how much i absolutely HATE how my speakers destroy the delightful base sound and beat. If it wasn't for my shitty speakers, i'm sure it would've sounded GREAT!

    Either way, it sounded good...

  • love how it ends with an open fifth, it's like IN YO FACE! hahaha

  • Such an intense piece....Hazo is a musical genius

  • First time I've heard this, a friend of mine told me to listen. Twas good

  • lol at 3:00 Get it low brass!

  • lol I know right. We had a great time playing this. Hope its the same way this year.

  • dang!!!!!!!!! hope we're that good this year

  • You made all-state this year?

  • i didnt

  • always love that ending.

  • The french horn part just makes the ending an OMFG someone shoot me moment!

  • My band is going to play this for our next concert, and we're hopefully going to have a friend of mine bellydancing for it! I absolutely adore this song!

  • Wow. My band is playing this, and we sound good, but we suck compared to you guys- this was awesome! Trumpets were strong- the flute solo in the beginning was really pretty and the oboe solo was way better than I could ever play it!

  • Played this in my school's winter concert before xmas. We pulled it off in two weeks of rehearsal. Very musically challenging song.

  • Oh check out my marching band Jordan High School! And feel free too criticize so that I'll know what we need to work on.

  • Go trumpets!! You guys sounded great at 3:26-3:43. This is a really hard song my high school band played this at our winter concert and we aren't even an honors band. We beasted but not like you guys did.

  • Ahh my director is thinking of using this for next marching season :) Probably parts around 4:40 to the end.

  • This is an amazing piece, sounded very good. We are playing this year and I can't wait until we start Wind Ensemble

  • the flute solo is so much fun...i love playing it :D

  • i was in the band he actually comissioned it for, i have the original copy in my room and he signed it :)

  • @Robero806 Thats is really cool! What band was that for? Was it for a highschool band or an outside school band?

  • @shentiex it was for the Georgia High School All State Band 11 - 12.

  • tokiohotel1012 agreed i loved playing this piece

  • I played this at Provincial Honor Band, and played the timpani for ti

my god this, and all hazo pieces, have the most wicked percussion parts! best timp solo ive ever played!

  • Heh, I remember you. OPHB, right?

That was a pretty sweet oboe part, if I may say so myself. :P

  • guy oboe or girl oboe?

  • Guy oboe. lol.

    Nice to meet you again.

  • My schools doing this too and it's stuck in my head 24/7. I absolutley love it!!

  • rcarman000 ur obviously not a very professional trumpet player if ur complaining about playing high parts as that is what u play the trumpet for

  • I actually agree with you there. It's not really that high anyway, it's just that my band has all day rehearsals which are brutal enough regardless of how high you are playing.

  • Haha rees stop whinging. they arent even that brutal those rehearsals. im pretty sure u should just give up the trumpet

  • Comment removed

  • i'm on second and it's virtually the same thing. only a few phrases are a few notes down, its otherwise the same

  • my school is doing this song! its my fave peice. i like ow alot of it has to do with brass me being a tuba player X)

my director aslo wrote a drum show using this song i love it its gonna be one of best shows

  • i know this may sound stupid but what is philarmonic?

  • D]hey dnt feel stupid im in band and i dnt even know wat it is

  • another word for orchestra

  • my band is playing this song at our high school and we're playing it for our Christmas Concert! I'm a freshman& am playing 2nd alto sax, i love it! :D kinda wish i had first tho...

  • I just got the clarinet music for this yesterday.... Kinda daunted.... But absolutely love the sound of it - so, can't wait until I, and everyone else in my band, get it down!

    ;D

  • I'm the only Baritone and we are playing this and I am so excited. We have less than a month to get it together, but I know we can do it. Go Trollers!!

  • I'm first bassoon and this song is so cool!!!!!! We're playing it for our winter concert.

  • Omg I love this song I'm first alto and we're playing it in our symphonic band at our school and it's so fricken awesome

  • awsome

  • SAM HAZO WAS AT MY SCHOOL TODAY!

we played this song and he conducted :)

  • our wind ensemble is doing this too.

    EPIC ENDING

  • welcome to the club and amen to that epic ending

  • nice job

  • I go to RIT and we're playing this in concert band. I play first bassoon on this and I absolutely love it. At first glance it's a little intimidating but once you start playing it's so much fun

  • I couldn't agree more.

Most of is is patterns, so it's not as intimidating as it looks. Even so, it's not one to laugh at.

But it sure sounds great! :D

  • My school's Wind Ensemble's playing this, too. It's a pretty cool piece, and it sounds absolutely fantastic when done right (as evidenced by this video). We'll get to that point; I'm sure of it.

  • my school's wind ensemble is playing this too!

    same school??

  • lol where do you go

  • the is the best sounding trumpet section i've heard. gotta love georgia. i decided to try out this year. audition peaces are easy. i just don't feel like memorizing the scales.... oh well. tenor sax section here i come!!!

  • my school is doing this for wind ensemble...it's for the best of the best players in the band....and 4:50 is my favorite part. i play tenor sax. this aint no easy piece either

  • my school too!

  • i got to NHS

  • thats my favorite too! just those few seconds after it are awesome.

  • we're playing this in my school, and i'm a trumpet, so we get to laugh at all the woodwinds cuz we're pretty much got our part down except for those crazy 16ths above the staff near the end

  • Nice job.

My high school Wind Ensemble is playing this and i've got 2nd Clarinet. yikes.

  • Haha! You, too? I just got it today for second clarinet, and sight-reading it was....well, let's just say there was a whole lot of black i saw on that page.

  • haha me too!

and yes "yikes" is the right word for it

  • lol, I realized this was you CC ^^ when this comment mentioned Wind Ensemble!

It's Vee, your fellow asian <3

  • SO PWN@!

i gatta play this in my music class! :D

  • My school band is playing this piece. I'm 2nd flute, and it's hard!!!!

  • we are playing it too and i am also second flute! it is really hard but when you look @ it, its just the same rythms over and over again :)
