  • imho the gtm is a super car inthusiasts dream. not only is it stunning awsome from every angle , its a beast and you get to build it yourself. as a petrol head i couldnt ask for more

  • Awesome!! I love it. but how bouts some double shifts or double declutch down before the corners??

  • The piont of building one of these must be lost to most of you.If I had to explain you wouldnt understand...

  • And as for the Gumpert, yeah, its fast (and as ugly as a boil on your ball sack) but how much does that car cost again?

  • What tires are on that??

    Bone stock lotus elise 1:08.91

  • as for the GTM kit...the hand brake is on the wrong side....What if you want to impress the ladies and want to pull off a hand brake turn? you have to reach way over the shifter to crab it? :LOL

When I order my kit next year to go racing with my friends at R-A in Ohio I will have to flop the mounting bracket for the hand brake my self

  • if it is set up correctly and you know how to drive, you can drift without having to use the e-brake, therefore where the handbrake goes doesn't matter.

    good luck with your kit

  • yeah man, when I build mine I'll race you at Norwalk!

  • in the words of the great John Belushi...

    "HOLY SHIT-TAH!"

  • It's amazing how differently the run around Beaver Run is in a high HP car! I am on the power way more than the GTM and on the brakes way later, but a Civic doesn't accelerate anywhere near what this beast can do!

  • He's also going WAY faster.

  • I think you don't realize the power/weight ratio on this car. It's the drivetrain of a Corvette with about 900 pounds less weight.

  • Ultima price vs this kit there is no contest.

Ultima is more expensive and out of reach for many including myself.

I like both cars but I lean towards factory five price and parts availability.

  • you can add driveing aids to any car.

i like the ultima better but this car is not bad. ultima has that old 80's GTP race look.

and yes most common trans is G50 for both cars but not the only one that can be used, same for the engine you could use any engine you want as long as it fit and you could have the bell housing made to mate to the trans (the early models of the Ultima used a mclaren V12). i like the gtm ok, my only complaint is the frontend is too large and too long.

  • WOW!

  • you guys really are idiots. the ultima uses the same drivetrain(same ls series motor and same porsche g50 transaxle) as the gtm, the difference is the ultima comes with all but motor and tranny, gtm needs a-arms,knuckles,brakes,wheels. so where's the performance difference between the 2? oh yea real cars don't use abs and traction- do you know how to drive or should we send you to racing school. the only reason i wrote this cause i cant stands me anything british

  • The difference the GTM looks modern... the Ultima is an old look, cool, but old... For all intensive purposes the GTM is superior, because you can replace virtually everything... its essentially a vette in new skin

  • I like the comment about: "real cars don't use abs and traction- do you know how to drive..." My Ford GT is the same way, no ABS no traction ctrl no nothing. I like it better than either of my buddies cars. Gallardo and F-430. Mine is faster. 6spd manual RWD that's for guys!

  • Yep I love the GT, I thnik I saw yours last week on l-205 you were hauling! Is it black with silver stripes? Or are they white? Cool ride man!

  • That car is damned fast. Too damned fast to be 40K! I wanna build one now!

  • Can someone put me in touch with someone who owns/drives a FFR GTM? I want to build one, but I am having serious doubs about its track prowess. I see many bad handling traits, like porpoising, understeer, then oversteer. From what I have read, you don't get to retain the traction control or ABS from the C5. When I watch videos of the Ultima GTR, I am amazed at its performance. Not so with FFR GTM.

    Thanks for input,

    ldmcnutt at Gmail

  • does the ultima retain traction control and ABS?

if so, mmmmmm........too bad the US dollar is crap versus the Euro

  • the Ultima donesn't use a "conor car." They built it from high quality racing parts, but as a kit, so I don't think it gets any diriving aids. It is just a very well tuned chassis that acts as a race car should.

  • quality racing parts for $27k??? theres no doubt its a drivers car, i just wonder how "great" those parts are.. the chevy parts are spoken for allready though...

  • $27k is impossible. Most people completing these cars are spending between $70k and $90k...

  • the $27k number your referring to was for performance parts, not build completion.

On another note, arguing about total build cost is absurd because the opportunity cost associated with each owner is inherently different.

But, for raw dollars, with the economy in the state that its in, I have no doubt one could purchase the kit and donor for under $20,000.

I've seen the entire kit, new rims, LS7 and donor sell for $31k on the factory five forums

  • there's no way the car could be completed for under 20k since the kit itself is 19900.

  • I don't see where I said it could be completed for 20k, which is probably why I recommended buying the donor and needed parts from someone on FFR for around $30,000.

    Are you confused?

  • no my comment was to put emphasis on what you were saying since for people who though the kit could be completed for under 20 grand. I didn't mean to come off offensive to you.

  • You guys are arguing about 20 grand, 30 grand, or 60 grand, and not thinking about the absurd fact that these numbers could be the cost of a brake system alone on a high performance super car. This car can potentially (once they work on the brakes and power steering issues) be nose to nose with a Ferrari Enzo, and probably a little out in front in that regard. Even if they don't fix the breaks, I don't mind stopping and extra 10 feet and saving 940,000 dollars.

  • Your point is valid, but an Enzo is yesterdays news.

A truly modern super car such as the CCX, Apollo or A10 will smash the GTM on a track, both with superior suspensions, better brakes and more HP.

This defeats your "same performance" argument.

    And your value arguement?

Buy a C6 Z06 for $40,000 and spend the difference in build cost between the GTM and "it." and you have an even better "deal" then a GTM.

    Why? you ask?

  • It is simple really,

A full race suspension, turbo package with upgraded internals, and upgraded brakes is the key in dominating a super car, but since were talking like this lets get to the "REAL" point.

The GTM, is a mid-engine Corvette with a Porsche Transmission. A "mut" if you will.

Brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Koenigsegg offer BOTH "beauty" and "performance."

Just depends, are you the kid with the Nike Shocks? Or the Kid with a "New Balance" and a painted "swoosh"?

  • Interesting rant...

    Nurburgring lap times

    7:33.6 Koeeoeoeoeoemnnneiiinininigsseeggggegegegggggggg CCX

    7:25.3 Ferrari Enzo

Looks like yesterdays news with it's inferior "suspensions" just pulled its pants down and took a big, diarrhea dump all over your precious and unpronounceable Koenigsegg...

Then, the Maserati MC12, 7:24.3. This car is based on the Enzo's platform and it drove a better lap still.

  • The Maserati is based on yesterdays technology.

The best example of modern tech. vs old is the Gumpert Apollo which ran a 7:11.5.

I really enjoyed how you ignored the "apollo" on that list, you must be a fan of the MC12 or Enzo.

as I recall Eddie Griffin is a Fan of the Enzo too.

    lol

  • Ummm, it can be done for 25k A friend of mine made one "For track racing only" got a Zo6 donor some one rapped around a tree on the Passanger door and well he paid not even 2grand for that and well the blower he added to the vette engine cost more then the price of the broken vette...he owns one of the GTM kits that has gone past 200mph...200mph for under 30k as well....So for 20k, ya if you have connections and auction places to score broken rides trashed by people that cant drive....

  • @mrexon So if you're just a regular guy without such connections, you're looking at $50k, not 25k.

  • The best deal is a used Z06

for $43,000 there is no reason to spend any money on a GTM (from an aspect of performance)

  • That's the 5.7 405 horse mill I'm hearing right?

  • Yeah with only 505 HP it is faster thatn an Enzo Zonda or S7! Immagine what it could do with some real power like 700-900!

  • Yeah man! This OWNES!

  • and also...as per the title..that's beaverun in new york (or is it east PA. i duno. its by the border. i've never been there yet)

  • ok so build a FFR GTM for 40K or buy a F1 Mclaren for 1 million.... let me think about that one...

  • Brittish!?! This car was made by Factory Five Racing in Massachusets. The engine's available for the car are the LS1 and LS7 from the Corvette. How is this a Brittish car?

  • you are fogetting the LS6 and LS2 are you not?

  • @97silverlude /the English landed in Massachusets,maybe Dave Smith is a descendant,He He,what a incredible car.

  • The British think they make everything...

  • @97silverlude You Tell 'Em "lude!

  • That's the sound of American muscle right there, my friend... not British. LOL!

  • big horse power!!! sounds and look great mate was that lakeside in Queensland????
