I remember the day Gilda Passed, Steve Martin was the guest on SNL. He cried doing the monologue. I think everybody who loved her cried as well. She was funny, vibrant and never dissapointed. We miss you Gilda.
I did some diplomatic work for the government of British Columbia, United Nations, and Jimmy Carter in 1978. Long story--read my pending books. "Kill Begin! Kill Sadat! Kill Carter!" was in the news so Carter advised me to warn Jewish friends in the public eye things could get dangerous if the summit succeeded or failed so i wrote her. A week later she sent me an autographed picture signed: "Love, Gilda." ...Makes me tear up every time i hear this. What a beautiful person she was...
I remember the night that Steve Martin announced Gilda's passing on SNL. He was so choked up that he could barely get the words out. Those of us who were her fans felt the same way--the world lost a talented, versatile, very funny woman far too soon. Gilda, the legacy of laughter you left us will live on forever. God bless.
im 12 years old and i love the new seasons of saturday night live and once i saw all of them on netflix i needed something else to watch so i thought if i liked it now then it must if been good back when it first started i was wrong, the earlier seasons were WAY better and more original, even the cast was better. i love gilda radner and all the characters she did so i did some research about her and its must of been a tragic day when she past. god rest her soul and she will never be forgotten<3
@mbxox143 What a wonderful thing you wrote about discovering the original Sat. Nite Live and especially Gilda! You have EXCELLENT taste especially for being so young! You're Great!!!
My parent's were big fans of the 70s cast of SNL. They told me how much they loved her, and I saw some of her skits, and I fell in love with her! She's so amazing, she has such a great personality. The one thing I hate about some of the current comedy today is it's all about sex, and she wasn't. She was brave, versatile, sweet, and all a joy. I only recently found out more about her, and she was a true loss. She impacted me in a great way...I'm 13, and I will definitely show her to my kids. :)
OMG why did I just tear up when she said she was with him in the beginning :) My mama just introduced me to her this past week and said she was her favorite SNL member from the 70s, I see why cause she is amazing. I love you Gilda :)
I was in NY in Mar of 81 and I was Blessed to get tickets to see Gilda in ‘Lunch Hour’ it was the summer before my senior year and I love her now as much as I did then. She made us laugh, but there was always something so touching about everything she did. She was a true artist. I smile just thinking of her.
Thanks for posting this... really great. I saw the show at the Wintergarden in New York, sat way up in the balcony. Paul Schaffer is a major talent too.
The rest of the songs and bits on "Gilda Live" were laugh-out-loud funny, but this song and performance had a certain sweetness to it, like she was really opening her soul to all of us. It's really touching watching it again thirty years later.
I think we feel deep down that we're friends with Gilda, that we all hold her so close to our hearts. I'm only 18 years old, but I appreciate everything she has done for me. I've experienced a lot for a girl my age but it was Gilda who got me laughing again. She really made me happy, she made me feel that nothing was too powerful to hurt me as long as I had her. I love this song, it reminds us that Gilda wasn't just laughter, she was full of life. And I believe that she is still so full of life.
I literally started reading the book last night and finished it this morning because I just couldn't believe the amount of love, joy, soul, fight, persistance, hope, and strength that she had! I really relate to battling illness, I don't have cancer but I do deal with depression which is a battle within itself! She has given me so much just with words on a page and now seeing her, I am touched even more! She was a rare persona!!!
Gilda had this sweet nature about her. I feel like I could have almost gone up to her, given her a hug and she would have hugged me tighter. I've loved her since I was introduced at age 14ish. Nine years later I still love her and she means even more now that my mom's gone. She loved her! Love you,Gilda! You were a beautiful soul.
I bought this album in the early 80's, and while all of "Gilda Live!" is brilliant, this is the only song worn out on the record. I played it over and over. It's just so sweet. Thank you for posting!
Any of you Gilda fans who haven't read it, read her book "It's Always Something", which she was writing up until her untimely death. Matter of fact, her husband Gene Wilder wrote the last chapter. Excellent read!
I read it so long ago. back in 91' I think. Gene Wilder was always one of my hero's and after reading Gildas book. they both became one hero in my eyes! I really enjoyed watching this video! glad there are still Gilda fans!
I wish I was old enough to say that I missed her.

Such a terrific song, I wonder who wrote it and why someone else hasn't recorded and released it.
These days, when almost no popular music has a melody, this is a breath of fresh air.
