I worked at McDonald's in Iceland in 2005. I had no time to get lunch at the mall. I had 10 minutes of lunch and had to eat what I got for the food stamps, and that was only valid for McDonald's food. Hated to work there, by the way. Terrible burgers.

This means that they must give them either money or a "ticket refeição" (a meal stamp). This McDonald's didn't do that, they only offered their employees the food from McDonald's menu. Maybe that doesn't make sense in the US, but different countries have different laws and here this is a perfectly legitimate lawsuit.

Although, taking another angle at this: why not sue McDonalds? No doubt they pay next to nothing in wages, regardless of what position you work in the store. If you can win 17.5k after 12 years of working your ass off at a shitty job, why not?! I'd plead insanity for working there that long, but pleading "i'm fat" works just as well. This is still better than those people that sued because they just happened to EAT there on a far-to-regular basis, and got fat.

In america, healthcare is a business, the problem is that most medical companies will not invest money to test a cure if they don't think they will have a market & produce profit for that cure. That is america's problem put simply. It is a conflict of interests. The problem with americans (republicans specifically) is that anyone who wants to change the system in place, is labeled a liberal commie. However, due to its complexity people generally feel every position is covered. It could not be further from the truth. We got Democrat, Republican, Liberatarian, Independant, Reform, Marijuana, Socialist, but the only ones that get any votes are the main 2. The Tea Party is new, but since they stem from republican, rather than split the repub. vote they joined with the repubs instead.

As a Norwegian taxpayer who had a stroke and got excellent medical care and social help with my situation, I was bailed out by my government using my own resources I was happy to pay; tax. I know this is difficult for the fascist to understand, but here we try to help each other out. It is a novel idea where people agree to work together to gain more effective systems. In the EU (we are not a part of it) two countries has fallen and the others try to help those.

It is not about choices but more about conditioning and targeting children. McDonalds should stop giving out toys with happy meals. This is one strategy they use to attract children and by the time you reach a certain age you are so used to the food from Mcdonalds that it is easy to forget how unhealthy their foods are, so they should be sued more often. Their campains to attract children is well planned and they don't care about their health or the cost to the health care system.
