  • According to AR the yacht is The Dauntless and the painting was done by f the late-19th-century artist Antonio Jacobsen — it sold for $281,000 in 2006.

  • took the frame off

    o my god ha

  • wish she wouldn't point at it with that stick! she might trip!

  • i love these. thanks for uploading them ultranothing

  • The boat is the America, winner of the Hundred Guinea Cup, renamed the America's Cup.

    I built a wooden model when I was a kid :)

  • If someone told me that, they would need a chair for me before hand!

  • Get the pointy thing away from the painting!

    *Shudder*

  • That's a beautiful painting. Great video

  • you took the frame off!!!

  • I want one of thouse wooden pins.....so that I can point at any ithem...and seam intelligante.....must be a great assesory for every day life-for not say knight life...

  • just because someone is not jumping up and down and screaming like a lunatic(kinda like on price is right whena contestant is shown a car that he or she CAN win and has not won yet) doesnt mean she is not surprised or excited

  • Like most old paintings, the artist did not actually see the ship, otherwise he would have painted the flag flying in the opposite direction, in other words, with the wind and not against it.

  • @hobbies460 Hey, you're a douchebag! Spam my channel again and I'll have you deported.

  • Dreadful speaking voice, grates on you

  • This painting was found not to be a Buttersworth!! this painting was determined to be the work of the late-19th-century artist Antonio Jacobsen and sold at auction for 281,000 USD

  • @dr4mus thankx for the info

  • Looks more like an Antonio Jacobsen to me

  • @Choungui ohh ya im sure u just guessed that huh,,,stop acting like u kno things

  • genuine shock!!!! congrats gran....lol :-)

  • I remember watching this on TV several years ago.

  • i remember seeing this show. this was a great find, indeed.

  • 3:53 "oh"...she threw away the fking frame LOL

  • " this painting was determined to be the work of the late-19th-century artist Antonio Jacobsen"

it sold at auction for $281,000

  • who the hell takes a frame off of a painting that old? and i know she didn't know how old it was, but look at the wear...you can tell its old....same could be said for the old bitch too i guess, gives a reason why she did it in the first place

  • 1:20 That's cool she mentioned US Flags are popular and help to increase value! I got plenty of them in my works.

  • Beside all that´s a great looking painting. It isn´t a snob abstract crap looking one.

  • yeah when i see this great painting I said to my self, "WOW this is really nice, how did the artist do that? If only i can do that, i'll be happy"

when i see an abstract painting or so-so painting I said to myself, "hmm..interesting..now someone please explain this to me so I can hopefully like it better"

  • I bet those cracks came when she took of the frames. HAH!

  • HAH? That pleases you, does it?

  • Put that damn pointer down, dumb ass.

  • beautiful painting

  • Great, except I can't CLICK THE DAMN LINK!

  • If I thought I had a painting worth taking to the antiques roadshow, the LAST f-ing thing I would do is take the frame off, especially if it appeared to be the original frame. If it didn't fit in the car, get a larger vehicle. I wouldn't dare to mess with any part of it at all.

  • "Oh my gosh!" is the "Holy Fuck!" of the 1950's, the era in which she obviously grew up.

So, while we may say "HOLY FUCK!", when discovering that our antique is worth $.5m, she is saying essentially the same thing, but in her seventy-year-old way.

  • Anyone who says they don't like Antique Road Show is a DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY LIAR!!

  • @TheLotusMantis UK Antiques Roadshow is better :P

Though I'm English and we have the ever sexy Fiona Bruce to present it.

  • My dad has a buttersworth in his library! Not quite as big as that one though.

  • Steal it! And bring it to me!

  • @KaitR123 It was Colonel Mustard in the library with a pipe wrench.

  • @KaitR123 I got some in my refrigerator

  • thats a pretty kickass painting too!

  • Gramma is about to cry... I bet this changed her life... I love this show.

  • $281,000 is what this painting sold for. It was painted by Antonio Jacobsen.

  • Thanks for the info - can you point us to where you found that out?

  • Thanks for the reply! I've added an annotation to the end of the video which includes the link you gave me.

  • "$200,000 to $500,000", and "could be priced in excess of $500,000" is what she said here. Not sure why they put "$281,000" as the price at the end. The first place one was "$350,000 to $500,000."

  • Why is this fifth place? This is appraised at well above the first place one.

  • First place was 500 000 dollars

  • I responded but I don't think I directed it at you, I apologize.

  • I though Mrs. butterworth owned a pancake maple syrup company?

  • haha holy crap she probably ripped off that top left corner paint tearing the frame off...

    hahah man.

  • I have one of thoes in my dining room !

    .

  • 3:11 she has a stroke and the roadshow runs off with the painting

  • adorable

  • james Buttersworth was the late husband of Mrs. Buttersworth, who owned the actual ship which was called a buttership, and it was a rule that only legless seaman could work on such vessels so they would not slip and fall.

That is why it is rare to see the legs of the sailors. and to this very day an American flag is required to be flown in their memory aboard every buttership.

  • BAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA. Funniest comment ever on youtube

  • yes you are right, second funniest is say in gay and Bono in the same sentence, while keeping a straight face.

    .

Rep. Bono is the widow of Sonny Bono, and step-mom to Chastity, who is a gay woman.

    .

  • That wasn't funny at all! It was ridiculous and stupid!

  • well I never got anything like that but I found out that my sword I paid $27 for is between $900 and $1200

  • Wow, what if it was signed?

  • It would melt your face off.

  • signed by Zorro?

  • Is the "real critique" always so negative and condescending?

  • Amazing painting! I only hope that I have grabbed-up something that valuable in all my collecting! haha

  • I hope that you did! haha!

  • Interesting how the artist doesn't sign such a beautiful work.

  • some artist love what they made so much they feel their name might blemish it's wholeness.

  • hhahahahahaha "Oh my Lord in Heaven"

the way she said that.....the silence after she said she took the frame off is priceless

  • i was there in the background.

  • Oh yes, I see you. 1:43, left of the painting, flowered shirt. Very attractive!

  • If you look closely you can see me standing on the bow of the boat. I'm the one on the left with the sailor suit.

  • That appraiser looked like she could have bitch slapped that woman when she stated that they had to remove the frame just to get it to fit into the car.

  • Does anyone know whether this turned out to be an original Buttersworth? Also the woman said she has possibly the original frame. Any follow-up on that? Thanks.

  • Oh, I just looked it up. Apparently, it turned out not to be a Buttersworth; it was by Antonio Jackson and sold at auction for $288,000. Still not bad! Wish I had something like that.

  • Actually, it's Antonio Jacobsen. :)

  • I would only be doing the same research that you'd do yourself. Google.

  • Are you American?

Surely, if you are, that would explain your comments...?!

  • no, i'm not, why do you ask.

    Are you American?

  • Sorry. That comment wasn't meant for you, or indeed for this video. It was for another Antiques Roadshow comment when someone was making some derogatory remarks. Sorry.

  • Opps, shoulda kept watching the video. Its a Jacobsen

  • I'm almost sure that this isn't a Buttersworth. I read an article a few years ago and their research confirmed it was not.

  • whaaaaaat. I think antiques roadshow is awesome and I'm an 18 year old girl

  • Thanks alot, I love this stuff.

  • apparently the jerk who wrote that this was boring is probably a 14 year old kid who only gets his kicks out of nudity and farting on this website. This is very interesting and thank you for sharing this with us on youtube.

  • I'd been looking for these videos for awhile and thought for sure I'd find them here on YouTube. I was surprised when I didn't so when I finally did locate them, I figured I'd make it that much easier for everyone else.

  • What were you expecting to find here? Explosions and nudity?

  • It probably wouldnt interesting be to a superficial person with no historical substance or awareness.
