According to AR the yacht is The Dauntless and the painting was done by f the late-19th-century artist Antonio Jacobsen — it sold for $281,000 in 2006.
I want one of thouse wooden pins.....so that I can point at any ithem...and seam intelligante.....must be a great assesory for every day life-for not say knight life...
just because someone is not jumping up and down and screaming like a lunatic(kinda like on price is right whena contestant is shown a car that he or she CAN win and has not won yet) doesnt mean she is not surprised or excited
Like most old paintings, the artist did not actually see the ship, otherwise he would have painted the flag flying in the opposite direction, in other words, with the wind and not against it.
This painting was found not to be a Buttersworth!! this painting was determined to be the work of the late-19th-century artist Antonio Jacobsen and sold at auction for 281,000 USD
who the hell takes a frame off of a painting that old? and i know she didn't know how old it was, but look at the wear...you can tell its old....same could be said for the old bitch too i guess, gives a reason why she did it in the first place
yeah when i see this great painting I said to my self, "WOW this is really nice, how did the artist do that? If only i can do that, i'll be happy"
when i see an abstract painting or so-so painting I said to myself, "hmm..interesting..now someone please explain this to me so I can hopefully like it better"
If I thought I had a painting worth taking to the antiques roadshow, the LAST f-ing thing I would do is take the frame off, especially if it appeared to be the original frame. If it didn't fit in the car, get a larger vehicle. I wouldn't dare to mess with any part of it at all.
"Oh my gosh!" is the "Holy Fuck!" of the 1950's, the era in which she obviously grew up.
So, while we may say "HOLY FUCK!", when discovering that our antique is worth $.5m, she is saying essentially the same thing, but in her seventy-year-old way.
"$200,000 to $500,000", and "could be priced in excess of $500,000" is what she said here. Not sure why they put "$281,000" as the price at the end. The first place one was "$350,000 to $500,000."
Just wanted to let you know that we are making a documentary on the UK's collections with Norwich Union and are looking for participants. Just click on my channel - Angela Rippon and Michael Vaughn are already involved and talking about their collections.
james Buttersworth was the late husband of Mrs. Buttersworth, who owned the actual ship which was called a buttership, and it was a rule that only legless seaman could work on such vessels so they would not slip and fall.
That is why it is rare to see the legs of the sailors. and to this very day an American flag is required to be flown in their memory aboard every buttership.
That appraiser looked like she could have bitch slapped that woman when she stated that they had to remove the frame just to get it to fit into the car.
Does anyone know whether this turned out to be an original Buttersworth? Also the woman said she has possibly the original frame. Any follow-up on that? Thanks.
Oh, I just looked it up. Apparently, it turned out not to be a Buttersworth; it was by Antonio Jackson and sold at auction for $288,000. Still not bad! Wish I had something like that.
Sorry. That comment wasn't meant for you, or indeed for this video. It was for another Antiques Roadshow comment when someone was making some derogatory remarks. Sorry.

yes you are right, second funniest is say in gay and Bono in the same sentence, while keeping a straight face.

Rep. Bono is the widow of Sonny Bono, and step-mom to Chastity, who is a gay woman.
