  • Susie was gorgeous! Schlegel was always a tool. He wasn't liked much on the tour because all he did was stay in his motel room doing enormous amounts of drugs with his woman... you know, the one with her picture embroidered on her shirt.

  • Seriously... that shirt!!! the hair!!! The glasses!!!! wow.

  • Gosh that 2 part vid brought back some great memories. Earl Anthony may have been the best I ever saw when I was young. What a classic style. I watched a PBA tournament on ESPN the other day, and there was an Aussie throwing the ball 2 handed! Sheesh, things have changed!

  • wow lol that is a pure 80's outfit by ernie O_O

  • @worldslayer For a minute, I thought Jeff Lynne was a pro bowler.

  • it looks to me ernie went from 5 to 4 step approach during the match anybody else see that? used to watch earl all the time on saturdays after i would get home from junior leagues

  • earls wife is hot :-)

  • @MrNovostar

Yeah. Earl's first wife was not very good looking so he traded her in for a vintage model; after all, he had a image to uphold.

  • Man, talk about pressure. I'm glad it was Ernie instead of me!

  • ernie's shot was so high flush

  • Earl was money. Ernie reminds me of the Bill Murrary character in Kingpin.

  • wow, what a great match. Being a lefty, Earl was an idol of mine along with Mike Aulby and Steve Cook. I also loved Marshall Holman and Mark Roth. Mark Roth was the original modern bowler with his style.

  • I was a little kid watching this when it happened. I always rooted for Anthony, he looked a lot like my grandpa. Plus my dad liked him, so I rooted for him lol. Great stuff. Thanks for this.

  • ernie looks as a girl

  • WOW great match

  • You're never guaranteed tomorrow. They probably are very thankful for each and every day, and the ability to do what they love for a living, just like most other professional athletes.

  • God did not win the game. Earl Anthony bowled and won the game. I am not a religious person. I was talking about the game itself.

  • Then it's no wonder why you can't comprehend why people take the time to thank their God. The world has so much to offer... I wish people would just open their eyes and see that.

  • @BowlerScott There is no God BowlerScott, don't you understand.

  • @BowlerScott Or at least they should be. LOL.

  • @trueblu8 how did he win when they were tied

  • @thissucss I agree with me. Do you actually think that God is watching out for all bowlers. Good grief. God does not assist in knocking pins down. It's bad enough that football players point skyward, but bowlers?

  • The Claw!

  • It seems like Anthony allowed himself to show more emotion on the lanes the older he got. Also, the longer he was on tour, the longer his hair seemed to get. Strange...but what an amazing bowler! The man owned the PBA National.

  • love schlegel awesome shirt i want one of them

  • I love how Ernie's wife spiked the stupid stuffed animal when Ernie choked on the first ball in the 10th frame...classic stuff!

  • Damn that's crazy! What was the deal with that stuffed animal anyways? Why did she bring it to all his matches?

  • It was a good luck charm - She threw it at Ernie when in finally won his first PBA title in 1980 at the Fair Lanes Open

  • Ah.

  • @trueblu8 For luck I suppose.

  • She didn't look too happy. Guess ole' Ernie was the in doghouse after that one. No shopping spree at Cartier for her that year.

  • @rstp354

Too much pressure....but still you gotta do it to win it.

  • What a great match! Earl Anthony is my bowling hero! I miss the way PBA use to run the show!

  • I have that same ball at :12

  • Seems like Earl became more expressive when he let his hair grow out. Did anyone else notice this?

  • 2:39 Priceless.

  • djrickysmith, I'm one of those old guys who watched these matches live. I never thought I'd see them again. Priceless is the word. A million thanks for letting me relive these classic moments in bowling history.

    Rat Man

  • I don't wish to put Walter Ray down.. he is a great champion, but when you consider the whole package, Earl will always be the man. I'm a huge Ernie Schelgel fan too. He certainly made the game more fun.

    Rat Man

  • Earl... wow. He was the man when I was a kid... never the likes of him shall we see again.

  • Nice! Gotta love that outfit! MY favorite growing up was Guppy Troup. It was such a pleasure finally meeting them both

  • Does anyone know what bowling ball Earl was throwing?

Most likely, it had to be an Ebonite.

  • I believe it was a Brunswick Mark X

  • wow - just awesome

  • thank you for posting these gr8 games...I'm new to bo.wling and all the older guys I know used to tell me about these matches. I have one word--"PRICELESS"

  • This is a timeless, priceless match mrbowling300. Thanks so much for posting it.

I remember Mike Durbin or Earl Anthony talking about Catherine in the 1995 TPC. They say she's more intense than Ernie.

Does anyone know when they started implementing the 24-second clock? Ernie surely would have went over a few times during this match.

PS...Earl won all 6 of his PBA National titles from the top seed. The man was the best ever.

  • Look how intense Catherine Schlegel was! When her husband didn't get that first strike to win the title, she threw something to the ground! That woman's something!

  • Earlier, they showed Catherine Schlegel holding what looked to be a stuffed animal, a monkey, I think. I didn't catch that until you mentioned it.

  • Wow! What a mop on Mr. Schlegel!!! Earl got four re-racks during the game eh? Too bad he didn't throw good shots after the reracks. I'm sure in the back of his mind that had he threw a shot in the pocket and carry, Ernie would be squawking. Even with that metallic wrist band on Ernie's right hand, I'm surprised the ball rolls as straight as he normally tosses it. Thanks so much for posting this! This was a great stroll during memory lane!

  • In the back of his mind was the fact that his opponent looked like Gabe Kaplin from Welcome Back Kotter.
