Right, I have an old HP Pavilion s7750 and I want to turn it into a PVR. Only thing is, I dont know what tuner card to get. The Motherboard is a Micro ATX with A PCI Express x16 slot. I dont know what I am supposed to buy, or if it is even possible with the old PC i have? :S
I have never been able to get the IR control to work using Linux, and I have tried many of them, including Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Mandriva, Debian, Mint Gloria/Isadora, OpenSUSE, Kubuntu 7.10 Linux MCE, Centos, Slackware, Ultimate Edition, plus I have tried the Solaris 10 Operating system, and the Open Solaris operating system. Also can't get any of the TV programs to work either.
@BernieLJ77 I have tried MythTV, Me TV and TVTime, with no success at all, using the Hauppauge PVR500, and that was both without the DTV converter box connected to it, and with the DTV converter box connected to it. In some Linux Distros I was able to get the permissions set up, and I even saw the screen in TVTime, but I couldn't see a picture and also couldn't change the source.
@BernieLJ77 In some Linux Distros the TVTime program tries to access TV going through my webcam instead of through the Hauppauge PVR500 and I was unable to change the source. In some Linux Distros, when I try to open TVTime, the screen shows briefly, then closes right away. As far as ME TV in Linux Mint Isadora, it won't scan for channels, and I also tried to "import" a channel list, but nothing works.
@BernieLJ77 IvTv won't work either...Now I am trying a digital card by Twinhan, but so far no luck with it either, so off to continue working to see if I can get that to work as just installed the Twinhan Digital card last night.
@BernieLJ77 I will say though however that I was able to view TV using the Linux MCE operating system, but it's geared mainly for controlling lighting, security cameras/systems, etc., so I wasn't that interested in it, but the lady who helps you set it up is interesting...On-Screen help given by a lady's voice and you see her in a window...so I may go back to using that system, but the IR function still won't work enabling/installing the IR feature/function. Have a Great Day, Bernard
Only problem with linux is that it's a pain to play HD discs. Fine for QAM/ATSC/NTSC/DVD, but won't play Blu-ray or HD DVD (for now). But considering it's free, how can you go wrong?
Why WMP if in alternative MythTV its free..
