Zen Cart - Downloadable Products

Shaerrah, I understand how to add a new product and insert information, etc but I still don't understand how to add a file in the download folder.

Also, if you have edited the downloadable file and want to exchange it for what is there, how do I do that? This would be helpful because it would keep all the previous information and I wouldn't have to redo everything.

@HannaPesca Google zen cart download folder. There is an article on moving your download folder for security, Zen Cart's recommendation. For now:

"Usually the "download" folder is located inside your store area, for example:

- /home/my_user_name/public_html­/mystore/download"

simply upload your product file into the folder "download." When you want to update the product, upload the new product with the same name. This will overwrite the old product file.

Where is the downloads folder on the server that you mention?

@sandswillis Zen Cart installs a download folder in the main store folder. There is admin, cache, docs, download. For security, it is recommended you change the name of your admin folder and move the download folder out of the store folder.

@shaerrah Thanks. I've been able to add the download but my item is free so no 'add to cart' shows up. can you tell me how I can get that to show up?

and once they finishing paying they get the link to download ? does it expire?

do they get it in a email too?

@505WIL See how to download at youtube.com/watch?v=ue1m8URPOo­s The customer receives a confirmation email, and the download button appears in the shopping cart. It can be accessed in the account.

Set the number of download days & attempts on the attributes controller page. I suggest at least 2 attempts to limit the number of tech support calls due to download failure. If you enter no value in "Expiry days" or "Download count" it will be unlimited.

Thanks so much for your video TUT, Shaerrah, Simple to follow yet I still can see red dot instead of green. Haha , what when wrong. I must have downloaded into a wrong folder. Pls advice.

@cspmichael Do you have a Download folder in Zen Cart? Did you put your file there? Make sure you uploaded it. Go to your Control Panel and look at your folders. The file should be in the Download folder. Check the exact name.

When you enter the filename in the Attributes Controller, enter the exact file name with the extension (.zip, etc.). Don't put the entire file path.
