This is the best kiss in film history because it was probably one of the happiest moments for the Doctor, yet it was also the kiss of death. He was taking away her pain and sacrificing himself so she would live. A kiss that managed to be happy and sad at the same time.

This was beautiful. Everything from the tender kiss between 9 and Rose to 9's wan smile after releasing the vortex, as if he were thinking, "Totally worth it." I missed this sort of caring and devotion during 10's run as the Doctor. Seemed like all Ten and Rose ever wanted to do was swashbuckle, giggle, and snog each other, everyone else be damned.

And this is why Nine is my Doctor: character development, selfless sacrifice, love in its deepest form.

I screamed like a little fangirl when they kissed. in my opinion, i thought rose looked amazing with both nine and ten so it didnt really bother me too much. i think she's better with nine, but looked great with both.

I didnt mind 10 and her and when they do end up together, in a way, i was happy but it just didnt fit right. The 9th Doctor seemed to have more character development than any of the other new doctors. I love how his relationship with Rose blossoms into this moment. I just wish he'd stayed longer, the entire first season seemed to just be preparation for the arrival of the 10th Doctor, and towards the end of 10s tenure all the character development 9 went through was thrown out the window, 9 started out cold, angry and brash, 10 ended up cold, angry and brash.

I have a theory. It mentioned that the heart of the Tardis is linked psychically with the Doctor. Now, It is also said that the Tardis also can see into the minds of those around her. So in effect the Tardis knew the Doctor was in grave danger. realizing Rose's intent she knew that this human child would need major back-up and merged with her.When Rose said "I want you safe. My Doctor. Protected from the false God" would you say that that was The Tardis speaking for both her and Rose?

interesting theory. I seem to think it was not Rose (only) speaking. you know, she didn't remember a thing later. however, the Tardis looked into her and saw her true feelings. so it might be the case that she just said what she meant now only because she felt so powerful.

but I'm inclined to agree it was mostly the Tardis. judging by the Doctor's reaction...

@reallollabunny Thats what I kinda figured when I watched this episode. From the Doctor's reaction I figured the Tardis was merged pretty tightly with Rose's mind. He had never heard Rose ever call him "My" Doctor and he knew what was swirling in her head. And they "both" wanted him safe so they bonded quite easily.

question though...how did she remember in Doomsday when she was talking to that one Dalek about meeting the Emperor and destroying the "god of all the Daleks"?

possible but if you look at her eyes they are NOT gold... I've always read that as Rose speaking for both herself and the TARDIS. of course as we are not given any info one way or another I see both theories as equally valid, espically when you consider the episode The Doctor's Wife.
