Very nice, and I love how you included close-ups of the equine faces. There would be no chivalry without horses. :) For other horse-spotters, if you notice the brilliant palomino with Olivia's Marian, that's the original Trigger of Roy Rogers.
@wrybreadspread Thank you for the nice comments! Excalibur theme is by Carl Orff, not Wagner but good guess! I think Ladyhawk would count and yes, I've seen a couple Tony Curtis medieval movies but they aren't here.
@cloudidogz This benighted one of hazy intellect (myself) Googled “music of Excalibur.” What did I find? We’re both right. I quote the Wikipedia entry on the movie:
"The soundtrack consists of original music composed by Trevor Jones, with the inclusion of classical pieces from Orff's Carmina Burana, as well as from Wagner's Ring and Tristan und Isolde operas."
Ever since i was a lad i always wanted to be a knight in armor looking for that princess in the evil castle tower needing to be rescued. Sir JON of the round table !! Ya thats me !!
All right, who are those 4 bastards who pressed the dislike? I mean, you can either like this clip, or you can simply don't care much about it, but I cannot imagine that someone would actualy dislike it. Anyway, good job Cloudidogz, the Princess of Wales should be proud.
I love that you included "A Knight's Tale" - even though it isn't classic - it's a VERY well done movie and def. in my top 10 of all time...the whole thing was great - esp. how you showed that every good knight needs a lady worth fighting for ;)
@MrSvenska0rmen Hi! It's "Across the Mountains" for the movie Alexander (directed by Oliver Stone, with Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie). The composer is Vangelis.
@Nitronick Thanks for viewing! Sorry, you must be mistaken. There are no French knights in this video tribute. The knight with the white flag is the legendary and very historical El Cid, the Spanish knight who led an army of Spanish and Moors to defend Valencia and defeat an invading Moorish force. In his death, he rode his horse to victory (so that was a dead knight) which turned the tide from defeat to victory. But even in death, he struck fear in his enemies and raised the morale of his men.
@Nitronick Oh don't be such a silly racist boy. People from that area(now called France) were above average when it comes to warefare (in comparison to other european regions). The historic records show that very clearly. One question if you mind, where are your animosities for the french come from. Do you know that, you prick?
@kunstsein I already replied to Nitronick and it has nothing to do with French. It's the Spanish legend El Cid and he's not running away...he's already dead riding his horse throughou the enemies.
Excellent editing, and a superb choice of films and musical scores! So glad you mentioned the highly underrated Excalibur, definately one of the most beautiful films of the genre.
@fairmont66 Thanks! Actually no. It's one of my favorite films but I decided not to show it since I wanted a broad representation and I already had several recent films. I wanted a span of movies over 70 years.
Disable automatic updates * Just in case of interest. European Knight's were mainly based on Persian Cataphract Cavalry. A type of heavily armoured Cavalry, used to devastating effect by the Persians in various battles against the Roman's. Devastating power, inflicting terrible losses on the once invincible Roman Army....
So good. Breath-taking scenes from epic films in better-than-life color! Brings back a lot of memories. Great shots of the handsome men and beautiful women who populated a past that never really existed. Especially liked Wallace's sword that comes down point first, the hand of the Lady of the Lake coming out of the water to make a perfect catch and the dead Cid, riding off down the beach and into the sunset. Thanks for this and please make more. I promise not to criticize!
@McGrenzer I have a similar one, "Romance and Adventure" with swashbucklers and it's actually better I think...but youtube removed a 3rd video of my series (ancient epics).

@chrshammer I love Kingdom of Heaven but decided not to since I wanted an historical spread of movies over 70 years (1930s-2000s) and recent films were represented by Braveheart and A Knight's Tale.
I wish they would make a film of the life of William Marshal... That, in my opinion would be epic! From his nearly being hanged at the age of ten by King Stephen whilst his father watched... all the way up till he was regent of England and fought off the French invaders then made a knight templar on his death bed for helping in the crusade! I love him! 'The flower of chivalry' 'the greatest knight'

would Ladyhawk count for a knight flick?

Scenes from the battle and joust from the movie " El Cid " , was one of the best battle scenes ever done in any medieval movie.

@themailman43 Definitely! Although the best jousting might be A Knight's Tale with a fun role played by
Paul Bettany and fantastic jousting! But the rest of the movie was not quite to par otherwise.

Exactly at 4:17...and then to like 4:22? That's "Braveheart" when William Wallace (Mel Gibson) gets knighted. And the music from 0:14 to 4:35 is "Over the Mountains" by Vangelis for the movie "Alexander."
