  • and the boat carried 8000 tons of blue whiting not 2000 fully layden

  • thats nothing i worked on atlantic dawn for 4 years and we steamed in from fishing blue whiting northwest of rockall to anchor in the lee of the Hebrides and it was worse weather than that i went out on the top of the accommodation block and took a video and i had kim wilde water on glass playing on it as a backing track but the video got lost over the years somewhere

  • That is one stable ship. There are plenty of far larger cruise ships which would have rolled like mad in similar conditions.

  • That is some superb seamanship, the captain has incredible foresight and control. He maintains a perfect heading and speed into each wave and I could only imagine the winds he was fighting to do so! My hat's of to this captain, if I were ever caught in seas like this, he is definitely the man I would want at the helm. Great video, glad you made it through to share it with us. Much respect.

  • you men have balls of steel !!!

  • This is spectacular. I want to sail so bad. I love maritime adventure! Ships are so graceful yet powerful. One of my dreams is to have a traditional Viking ship/boat that supports atleast eight oarsmen. I would also need a crew of course! I would give her an old Norse or Saxon name. It would be amazing.

  • I don't know why and it sounds strange - but I always wanted to experience on a ship a rough sea like that.

  • man I got scared BAD on lake erie that wasNOTHING compared to this I've talked to Scots fishermen all the respect no WAY would catch me out there

  • Thank you for not putting that crap black music, and ruining a great video.....

    Outstanding.....

  • wow

  • is weer is wat anders dan het ijsselmeer;)

  • insane..

You'd need to have a lot of faith in the ship!

  • brill clip, there would hav been some bouncing if you had not fish abord, least havin the 2000t onboard it drives her head into it,makes the steaming more confortable!!!great clip!!!blue whiting prob the heaviest aswell, would say they were in good shape after that run..ha ha

  • and if the front got underneath the surface?? it could sink couldnt it??

  • nope!

  • Loucuraaaaaaaa!!!!!Bravos marinheiros!!!

  • awsome !!! that is scarey shit..brave crew!

  • Sod that for a game of soldiers, I'd rather stick my arse into a bucket full of starving red ants!!!

  • dam, how does that beast stay afloat

  • I would love to get into awet suit and just stay out there dolling in the waves =[) not exactly possible becuase of hypothermia and getting a ride and all but it would be fun, or maybe scuba diving under the waves

  • esse video é muito mara...

  • loooooooooool

  • the skipper must have had good faith in his boat!

  • This is the KW 174 annelies ilena

from fisching company Parlevliet & van der Plas

  • It's even more fun on the container ships.

  • aye but you wont get chucked about as bad as these guys lol

  • yupsee. but theres a few containers at the bottom of the sea out there

  • lol fair comment, the pentland has crazy tides too eh

  • beautiful

  • What fishing boat is this and is there any fish aboard at the time?

  • No må du huske på du kentemann at på tromsøybuen så hadde vi ikke bakke .Det gjør det litt mere spennende det . He He

  • nææ, farsken. jæævelig spennandes uten bakke

  • korsn båt e detta... vert med på det samme på ms tromøybuen

  • its because the ship is so light a cruse ship or fery would not move half as much as that

  • im going on cruise north sea hope its not like this most of the time

  • now thats what u call wind!

    favourited

  • swell brings back memories

  • I dont know it for sure but the ship looks like the annelies ilena, before it was sold to the netherlands it was a ship under the irish flag called atlantic dawn.

it really look like that ship ive been on the atlantic dawn.

  • that is not the atlantic dawn! that is a fishing vessel from norway

  • Yes it was! Now it is the Annelies Ilena! 1 month ago, this vessel is painted black with white stripings........

So he is not from Norway, but from the Netherlands (Katwijk) and Irish before.....

  • We Dutch recognize the Norwegians and the Brits as good sailors; probably because we share this same bitch of a North Sea.

  • good u mentioned the min the right order. Brits are no match for the Vikings

  • no match for the vikings, but hitler never got to have dinner at the Ritz.

  • moreover in the days of the british empire britain had the marine might, ship for ship, to take on the navies of any two others countries in the world put together.

  • My dad used to be a rough neck on the rigs in the North Sea, and he has quite a few horror stories to tell about those days. You definitely gotta be tough to handle the North Sea...

  • @frube64 this is ex atlantic dawn so914, biggest fishing trawler in the world

  • Awesome.....Very nice film.

  • shes well able for it nice ship.

  • During 2003 Decmber and 1/1/04 there was a hurricane like this.We were 210 miles north Aberdeen. The Sea were like this. They Smashed our Sem-sub Adriatic iv for 3 Days solid.

  • very nice video.

  • Muito Sinistro! C'est terrible! Tem que ser muito macho pra enfrentar um mar desses!

    Bizarre!

  • Pentland Firth is a nice place ...compared to hell

  • i dont think anybody actually understands the amount of sheer courage, will, team work and determination it takes us seamen to even have a half decent game of dominoes in seas like that

  • whats is the name of the boat?

  • Yes, sir, it does take balls. And them you ain't got!

  • thats freaking scary. i will kill someone who would force me to ride that scary machine called ship with the hurricanes and huge huge waves.

  • if you went on deck you would want a hat!

  • A new life i think;)

  • In weather like that a shorter boat is an advantage, less chance of being on two waves at once, and you tend to ride better, short swells = bog boats are good long ones like this small ones are better , kool vid thou

  • This is very, very good footage.

Thanks for sharing this with us !

  • I've also been in the North Sea in such weather.

I were with MS Tromsbas (ex. Furen), november last year.

  • thanks for impressions

  • holy shit

  • WOW! that is impressive!

lets face it mother nature still lets us know that she is still in control.

this is like the seas i went fishing in around july 1987. they came from no where and caught us by supprise. it was not until i got back to land and watched the video that i got scared! MORE!

  • Well done lads, keep the industry ticking over

  • is not that bad come on

  • I came from Zeebrugge to Dover in a force 8 on a ferry, felt like i lost 6 stone in puke, i"m not a good sailor, gave up European work not long after that.

  • lucky you in 70 m vessel we sometimes get caught in that weather in a boat 24m !!!

  • hey

    your lucky

becaues i was caught in this weather on a boat of 11 meters

    thats like hell on earth

  • captins that handle those waves have skill and big balls

  • Great video. Thanks for posting it. Ordinary people do not get to see high winds creating 50 ft waves on high seas from the captains viewpoint, from the bridge of the ship. Is it possible to see the picture of that ship? How long did that storm last?

  • The ship took at least 24 hours to cross the north sea. The storm was with us all the time we crossed.

  • Normal day in the north sea....

  • Oh men...Wish I was there with you!! PERFECT !

  • awsome

  • How big was the vessel and what was the weather like in the video, windspeed and sea hight? I was stuck in a storm on a 110 foot fishing boat in the south east atlantic for 3 days of 50-60 knots of wind and seas exceeding 30 ft.I wish i had my camcorder! RESPECT for the men of the sea.

  • The Vessel is 70 meters (230 feet). Windspeed was 40 meters per second (which is about 80 knots). The sea hight was 15-20 meters(50-66 feet).
