Texas is the Lone Star state because the state flag has one star. "Don't Mess With Texas" is actually an anti-littering slogan that I dunno, grew beyond its original purpose somehow.

Although I find this video slightly humorous, I do happen to question the legitimacy of these mottos. First of all, Maryland's motto is NOT what you said. Actually, a lot of these states don't have the mottos you're saying. Maryland's legitimate motto is "Strong Deeds, Gentle Words." And for Texas, the "Lone Star State" isn't their motto, it's their nickname.
Georgia: inbreeding did this but if you say anything we'll have god kill you 'cause ma/aunt/sister/the mayor, don't know nothin' bout it!...have a blessed day :D
