While I agree Obama shouldn't have received the Prize. At least Carter negotiated the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. He did do something to foster peace. And it most likely cost him the election because Iran refused to negotiate with him due to that treaty.

Food for thought - Today on fox news they said there will be a official ceremony sometime in december to give obama his prize.This will happen AFTER obama makes his decision on general McCrystal's request for more troops. obama will say NO to more troops because he doesn't want to go to the prize "committee" having said yes to more troops that would piss them off. @DEMONSPIT77-For 8 years I didn't hear "President Bush", usually "Bush", or some expletive. As I said, his own inner circle uses his whole name in reference to him in public speeches, so one assumes it is acceptable. Though I agree with you that this award is a joke, as well as the organization, I do not feel compelled to refer to him as anything but what I consider him to be-The Great Charlatan--I have no respect for this man. Freedom of speech, of course. I do not need a lecture.

The nominations for the award were due by February 1st. The Great Charlatan had been President at that time for approximately TWO WEEKS. Clearly, this was political, with the Norwegians (read: European Union) inserting themselves into our business to send a message-they didn't like Bush. THAT is the belief held by many--including the "London Telegraph". It is an insult to those who have worked for peace, putting themselves in the face of death, to help others. BHO has done nothing.

Had The Great Charlatan any amount of honest humility (how could THAT be possible from an elitist, arrogant narcissist interested only in the cult of himself?), he would have graciously acknowledged the award, and immediately declined it, in favor of one of the other truly deserving individuals. Though the award has been political for several decades, the value of same is forever diminished and infinitely cheapened. Shame on the Norwegian committee--five leftists that they be.

While I agree Obama shouldn't have received the Prize. At least Carter negotiated the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. He did do something to foster peace. And it most likely cost him the election because Iran refused to negotiate with him due to that treaty.
Kissinger a major warmonger and was at the time he won the peace prize overseeing a covert carpet bombing campaign on Cambodia.
Nobel Peace Prize committee needs to be subjected to some drug testing.

Carter actually did some free market things. He broke up AT&T opening up the phone market. AT&Ts monopoly was blocking cell phones. He deregulated Aviation which made way for discount airlines. I think your criticism is hackney partisanship. A valid criticism of Carter was his inability to delegate to others which made him slow in a crisis.
Obama hasn't had time. We can hope he will be nothing. I am more concerned he will be something and actually turn the country more socialist.

I do appreciate the few things Carter did in his four years. But as a former Banker I remember the runaway inflation, long gas lines and his incessant fireside chats regarding turning up or down your thermostat.
But as a conservative and one who believes that lowering taxes is better than a completely unreadable Health Care Bill plus Cap and Trade is only going to cause a deeper recession. Thank you for your intelligent conversation.

Wasn't it the first situation of stagflation not strict inflation? As the supply of workers kept wages low but the scarcity of goods kept prices high. Or did the Fed increase the money supply to pay war debt. Even Ford would have been hit with the debt bubble of Vietnam and associated unemployment.
Granted Carter did not help with gas cap. I never got why Reagan didn't reverse the 55 speed limit left over from Carter.
No cable yet. The president would be on every channel back then.

Mahatma Gandhi, Thomas Edison, Nicola Tesla, Nelson Mandella, and Mother Teressa while being nominated just don't seem to measure up to the accomplishments of Barrack in his first 12 days as president. Obviously, this was an undeserved political handout.
Don't get me wrong I am glad that a President of the U.S. would win but, to do so without merit or accomplishments to back up the selection is more likely to bring ridicule than respect to the U.S.

I think what it ultimately comes down to is the fact that a European committee gave an American president the nobel prize for being the first American president to lead the U.S. towards European ideas and ideals. Unfortunately European ideals are vastly against what many Americans consider to be constitutional and moral.
