I wouldn't suggest using a CD burner. The light is infared and if its 52x then it is more powerful. IR light is invisible and does not collimate with regular lenses well. So you could have no idea where the light is when you turn it on. I suggest going to stonetek . org and ordering a 16x DVD burner diode pre-installed ina housing.
thanks... a few hours later i found the diode... at least according to online schematics i found it... it was small... like integrated into the mini chip-set on the drive small... ill try going with a DVD brner
I'm not sure at what sopt size it will pop a baloon, but red lasers have a negative initial beam diameter so it diverges until it inverts. So you can find the smallest possible dot size if you needed to.

why does the red dot have a red glow around it? is it a dirty lens, or is it just that the lens on it really isnt meant for lasers?

yea but what about 0:53 when all the red light is in a big circle on the wood? it looks like its a dirty lens or something.
Lsrpwer13579 3 years ago
You normally get that sort of think with axiz modules. My red laser dose that too.

Theres usually a couple on ebay. They're pretty darn expensive though. I know a pocket size version is 500-600 dollars.

- what would be the watts for an 18X red DVD laser diode? .. is it close to 200?
Juthumheim 4 years ago
i meant 'M'Watts..
Juthumheim 4 years ago
Well, the 16x diodes can go as high as 250mW. But the faster the DVD burner the less hard you will have to drive it to acheive higher power.
sidewalk4004 4 years ago
Be careful where you post MW. That means MegaWatts.
use lower case m for mw~miliwatts.
Trust me, if you go around saying MW you WILL receive a LOT of negative feedback from youtube!
just being nice and pointing it out for you.

I'm glad to see you found my video and instructions helpful. It also makes me want to continue the instructions that I have not finished

Use the instructions in the video description of "150mw DorcyJr red laser burning at night". Which this is a video response to.
