  • jeez just because one person does it one way doesnt mean they all have to agree and you guys with the insulting comments grow up and do your own and quit watching vids on how to make it easier for yourselves if your just looking to critisize its sooo annoying :( I for one love watching these videos and I think he did a wonderful job SHEESH!!!!

  • black folk fry the whole damn thing with head, guts, and scales on til its hard then eat the whole damn thing...no waste

  • Ya but I hate how messy scaling is

  • I filleted one, but I couldn't get the skin off, so I just scraped off the scales

  • Now that's how you fillet a crappie!

  • MMMMMMMMMMMM. Looks tasty!!

  • Never knew you could push the front fin like that to get it to pop out, cool

  • how big was that crappie

  • that is very nice, but you have wasted 50% OF THE MEAT.Fry the entired fish and remove the bone, you will eat 100% the meat.

  • Very nice fillets!

  • thats a big frikkin crappie!

  • that is the right way to fillet a fish...the skin is bad for you it contains higher mercury and for the people who dont mind the bones...well good for you...some of us dont want to be stabbed by our meal

  • i suck at fillet but i am only 13

  • Thanks for sharing! Very well done :].

  • thanks for the vid cause i wanted to filet a crappie but the crappie i catch are darker than the one in the not that it matters

  • now this is one of the better videos i seen good job. what kind of knife u got?

  • is this your 1st time cleanin a fish

  • @bobodowden even if it was he did it the right way...loser

  • Nice size crappie.

  • looks like the knife needs to be sharpened

  • Internet CRITICS who know everything and always have criticism!! I for one really enjoyed your video! Thank you for taking to time to share your knowledge with someone. Take care and have a great day.

  • thankyou! i can never filey panfish i can filey everything else but them now u just gave me a knew stratagy thanks

  • thats a humongous crappie :)

  • cooked fish with bones brings out the flavor, especially pan fish... Fry em hard Man.... fry em hard.....

  • lol wow, you totally jacked up that filet dude. And why would u wear plastic gloves to filet a fish??

  • for ease of removing the skin do not separate the fillet at the tail. leave just enough skin to keep it attached. flip the fillet from head to tail which puts the skin side down and cut fillet from skin. The bonus is that you have the entire fish body to hold to.

  • Are people THAT in love with fillets to lose that much meat. Filleting doesnt yield as much as pan dressing on ANY fish, but Crappie are pretty small fish even at the 10 and 11 inch range. Thats a lot of lost food there just to miss some bones.

  • hahaha again, you really like to waste about 70% of every fish you caught lol.

  • That is just a huge crappie!

  • thank you. that was helpful. I spent about an hour filleting my first 3 crappie. I got every speck of fillet, but also got a royal headache. Nicely done. Thanks again.

  • Nice attempt...terrible yield!

  • damn u left alot of meat man

  • never had one, can't wait to catch one. can you catch em this time of year?

  • do u eat the skin with the fillet or do u take it off later

  • th skinning sucked............wat did you catch that on

  • dude you can just cut off its head, then gut it its much esier

  • that takes to much time when u could just release it

  • I eat my fish whole or cut into steaks, fileting a fish is such a waste of meat. but good job on the filet.

  • how do you cut em into steaks? could you possibly recommend a video for me?

  • that was beautifuly done, kudos

  • Left some meat on the first cut taking it off of the skin. The second cut was good. Oh, I just love the Joseph Mengele style music in the back ground. South America Crappie?

  • does this only work for hartwell crappie?

  • dis work fo any fish wit scales do

  • Comment removed

  • That's a big crappie!

  • The easiest way to filet any kind of fish is to use a electric knife. Do it the same way he's doing it but dont cut the filet off the fish just filp the filet over with the tail attached . Then hold the tail and remove the meat off the scaled side. then just cut off the remaining bones. And then flip the fish over and repeat on the other side. In 3 mins i bet i could filet 10 fish to his 1 no matter what size. And it works on all fish that i know of.

  • it might be easier for panfish bit for flounder or larger fish a regular knife works best (at least for me)

  • whats a hartwell crappie?

  • Hartwell is a Lake in South Carolina, this is just showing how to filet a crappie from that lake.

  • only a small portion of lake hartwell is in south carolina. most of it is in georgia.

  • why do ppl fillet panfish. you lose so much meat that way. scale it gut it cut its head off. the meat falls off the bone after being cooked any ways

  • dont cry

  • Some people dont like scaling fish, its more messy. Also, mercury levels are higher in the skin than the meat.

  • dude! You lost credibility wearing a glove. Sharpen your knife and always, always pull with a straight edge knife towards the tail, also make your cuts down the spine on both sides before removing the meat. I filet thousands of walleye a year off lake erie. I could do you 3-1 and make cleaners cuts with my sharp knife

  • If you thought this was a riveting fishing video, then you must see Uncle Humphrey's How to fillet a mullet video. Prepare yourself for the edge of your seat.

  • You lost WAY to much meat in the end, how about sharpening your knife once in a while?

  • your knife is too short ! HAHA

  • u should have scaled him firsh the proceeded 2 filet

  • theres no need to scale man, its actually worst if you scale them before filleting them with this method. the scales help hold the skin in place in order to slice off the meat.

  • same way i clean them works like a charm

  • nice when will i see some new videos

  • Why do you wear gloves? Get in there and get messy, it's part of fishing! I also agree with many others, your vertical cut need to go deeper to get all the meat.

  • Dude Insted Of Killing Littly Croppies Try RianBow Troutr

  • You wasted a lot of meat because your fillet knife is too short and it looked a little dull to me. If you don't cut the fillet's off before taking the scales off you won't lose that half inch there and if you had a longer knife you wouldn't have lost all that good back meat.

  • u should check his stomach 2 see wat theyre eating that way know wat ur presentation should look like

  • bhuff00...have you even fillet a fish before? that is how you fillet a fish, what do you expect, just straight flat? try that see how many bones your going to start picking out and then your meat tears apart...learn before you do some BS talking...and nice filleting there =]

  • This fish was killed and chilled on ice ... and cutting of the head just makes a bloody mess... clean up your language and abuse or I'll block you kid!

  • @how2fish kids these days right

  • Great job, will subscribe

  • I thought it was a very nice job. Thats the same way I clean walleye.

  • you should have explaned what the fuck you were doing too

  • Learn how to really fillet a fish, your wasting some good meat mate. Especially when it come to crappie and their size

  • Looks like good fillets to me!

  • Thank you very much for the video! That will come in handy tomorrow if i'm lucky enough to catch for crappie! And Please try some different music next time.....lol j/k

  • nice fish and a big one too

  • a waste of good fish...

  • super job, now show how to fillet a mexican haha just kiddin.

  • OMG poooor fisshhhhh!!!

ha just playing, nice cuttin. haha

  • awsome thank you

  • lawl at the elevator music

  • thankyou can't wait to eat one

  • Good job with the knife. It slows it down enough so people can see how its done. Waiting for the bite to start here in Oklahoma. Emmm panfish, theres a bite on each side.

  • great video I just started fishing very bad at fileting anything this was helpfull

  • With respect, I prefer my electric fillet knife. You can do the job a lot faster.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • I agree, but I only had one Crappie.

I also don't think you would be able see How2 with the bulky electric on a pan fish.

  • Oh dude u said it all the eletric filet knife is the way to go especially when you have 50-100 croppie to fillet

  • @Str8eningTheCurves but not alot better

  • Good show.

  • Nice video. the combo of the classical music and cutting of raw flesh is a little wierd. but you did a great job. Very entertaining. Fish On!!!!!!

  • thanks i needed that help, now i can do it!

  • welll you can eat the rest of it if you feel like messing with a pain in the ass panfish. but hey, if its big enough to fillet, then its big enough to eat in my opinion. when it comes to panfish that has no size limit that is.

  • Lama, stop spitting!! this fish was in a cooler for 6 hours "dead" and cold I like to chill them to make the meat firmer ...trust me he was dead and then in my belly!

  • i agree with you. i like to leave them in a little ice water before

    great vide by the way

  • When filleting fish sometimes, even if they've been dead for hours, you can hit a nerve and make them move or in this case just push down and make it look like its mouth is moving.

  • thats really a waste of meat. you can eat the skin it taste good. also after u fillet the fish you can cut the head/fins/tail off and deep fry the rest of the body. the bones become crunchy enough and just eat it.

  • Thanks!

  • the little dinky crappie i catch are too small to be filleted..what bait can you use to land a massive crappie??

  • i use a small jig head like 2/8 oz with a really small skirt on it and i catch some decent size crappie

  • you make it look so easy

  • not bad but you should kill/stun the fish first before cutting into it.

  • the fish was dead lol what made u think it was still alive? i mean look at it

  • itshimkevinkim u fucking idiot the fish was still alive before the person starts to cut into it,... u can see the gills move ! retard

  • uhmm if you look carefully u can tell his finger was up there right b4 he set it on the cutting board and if the fish was alive the tail would've curled up a bit i've kinda worked as a mate on party boats so yea.. i kinda know what im talking about

  • nice work... although on the first fillet you left alota meat still attached to the skin.. i would recommend just scaling the fish first then go ahead with the fillet if thats what you do ..the skin cane be eatn..not a bad tast either if fried just rite in some peanut oil....

  • ole BIG BLACK!!!

  • once when i was fileting a perch this dude flung the stomach at my arm.and the second thing i dont like about perch is that i once ate a spine because the same guy fileted it all wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I hear that Crappie are delicious. What all do you put on them and how do you cook them?

  • Deep fried in peanut oil!!! I put pickle juice and lemon pepper in with the egg wash then use potato flakes to bread! enjoy!

  • was the fish dead when you started to cut it?

  • yes the fish was dead... I recommend chilling all fish on ice for at least an hour or two ... this firms up the filet making it easier to get a better piece of meat.

  • not to bad at least some people know what their doing

  • do a HOW TO FILLET A BLUEGILL! =]

  • Your method was correct but you need to keep the blade closer to the bones and then closer to the skin. I also noticed that you punctured the bladder and then layed the filets on top of the mess.

  • u butchered that thing

  • You wasted a lot of meat near the head and one the first filet that was being skinned. I allways cut as close forward towards the head as possible. It all is edible.

  • I have to agree with douglasrob. Coulda done that in half the time with an electric knife.

  • why does everything gotta be electronic nowa days? lol its mroe fun with a standard knife

  • electronic? i see nothing electronic about that knife.

  • it was a comment on another person's comment sorry if u missunderstood

  • According to the breathing, I have to assume Darth Vader was filleting the fish. Either way, nice work; very informative. /Applaud

  • lol very noisy breathing indeed but also a great clip. HOW2fish website seems like some place im gonna have to check out

  • FYI - my chocolate lab is snoring in the video not Darth Vader.

  • From the sounds of it Darth Vader was skinning this fish - but either way, great video. Very informative. /Clap

  • too much meat left on the bones.

  • love these videos great job.

  • what happens when you got a 100 of them to clean??

  • FISH FRY!

also use electric knife check it out on you tube... How2 filet Striper with Electric Knife

  • just fry the fish whole will yah? so you wouldnt be missing ANY kind of meat that could have been left..especially on the head. my 2 cents

  • Not how I do it. I get the same result in less than 1 min per fish. #1 Don't scale the fish. #2 Get an electric fillet knife and cut the fish to and through the ribcage. #3 Take the knife through the fish very nearly all the way through the tail. #4 Once at the tip of the tail flip the fillet over and run the knife along the skin separating it from the meat. #5 Trim out ribcage. Walla!! Much easier and a whole lot less time invested.

  • doug, I have an electric knife and have cleaned in less than a minute as well, but buddy I only had one crappie.

    Dave

  • Now THAT'S how to filet a crappie. I wish I would have seen this 3 years ago. Good job.

  • this makes me want to rush out, even at 1 am lol, catch some crappie and bluegill, and make me some pan-fried fish!

  • Very Very nice. I applaud!!
