Study this clip carefully. Redden doesn't know what the fuck he's doing. Pretty clear at 0:15 that if Redden takes Marshall, there would be no pass to Friesen.

@leafyutube : I think it's more Karl Rachunek's fault than anything. If you watch closely, at the blue line (00:14) he releases his man (00:15) as they head down ice. At that point when the puck came into the Senators end he chases after Grant Marshall w/Redden and lets Friesen get away. I believe that had he not released Friesen and stayed w/him this would not have happened. I also think too that Havlat been skating instead of coasting it could have been prevented too (worst case scenario)
