I think it's an incredible accomplishment by apple just to get something that small to work in the first place. Not work well, but just work. They got it to work. Other's have tried Slim models and small models, but let's be honest, they didn't save us any room, because they still needed almost an entire cubby of storage. This can go right next to your monitor without ruining space, and that cubby can be used for something else.

well the new 2010 mac mini use displayport not vga or dvi, so if you wanted to connect your monitor you would need to buy a converter, so a vga to minidisplayport connector or a dvi to minidisplayport connector. displayport is the future, dell started to use that connector in 2006. some will say hdmi is better, who knows.
@DRBUK Actually the new 2010 Mac Mini features both HDMI & Mini DVI Display port, so you you can connect it to a monitor with DVI/Mini DVI port (+ VGA with an adapter) or a Flatscreen with HDMI. Personally, I purchased a 21" Samsung HD-Full telly & connect it via HDMI which gives an awesome picture!
are the 15-inch: 2.53GHz macbook pro's better than the 2.53ghz mac mini's? they both seem to have the same specs but i get the impression that the pros are better, and faster.

I can honestly say, 9 months after getting my 24" iMac, I still remark on how great it is. I can have a myriad of apps open, and it never gets bogged down. The screen is glorious. I love it. Its just fantastic. Everyone works seamlessly. And it starts up in 30 seconds! And shuts down in 10! Its insane!
So I would highly recommend getting the MacBook Pro 17"!

The mac mini is truly great. I got one this spring, and never want to go back! I installed an extra 2 gig of RAM as soon as I got.. Did it myself, easy job (just search YouTube on how to). The extra RAM was only 50$!
I use Parallels 4.0 and work with Solidworks (heavy 3D modelling software) on XP. It's does the job real good, and I am just really amazed of how good this little box performs.

Thanks for making the video. I just bought one of these for my mom and she loves it. I was able to hook up an old keyboard, mouse, and monitor my father had and they worked just fine with the mini. It's a great introduction to the mac system. The one I got came with a VGA adapter. Very easy to set up.

Nobody does i guess, but if you want a cheap mac, the mac mini is the way to go. You could think of it as paying to get the os, not the pc. People who wish to develop iphone apps also need a mac too.

Hi man, firstly nice review. Secondly I am thinking of getting a Mac Mini, do u rekcon it's worth the extra £100 to get the £500 version or is the £400 version fine?
Also is the £400 version able to make DVD's using the iDVD because I didn't think it had a CD/DVD writer.
Finally does the Mac Mini connect to any display/keyboard/mouse or does it have like a sort of small list of compatible add-ons? Is there anyway to see if my current keyboard/mouse/display is compatible?
it is definitely worth the £100 extra, my friend has the cheaper version and I have the more expensive version, there is no visible difference, but my one has faster internet and my friend ran out of memory with music and films and applications etc... so, DO go for the extra £100

Should I be keeping a Mac mini on all life? Or should I turn it off based on the mini not electricty bills. Will it affect systems in negative ways or overheat at all? I know you did leave it on for 1 week tho.
I left my mini on for 35 days once. IT then froze and had to be rebooted. I had the 1.6 GHz Core Duo with 512mb of RAM. Now got a 2.2 Ghz macbook, love it!!

the power brick is a UPS. it holds power a few seconds after shut off, like a power outage. It wont just shut of, it will slowly kill the power. good vid. A+

I think though the Mini can be run threw the PC tower, according to Leo Laporte.
for $712canadian, it should include all the basics that PC gets. KeyBoard and Optical Mouse at the least.

Hi man, firstly nice review. Secondly I am thinking of getting a Mac Mini, do u rekcon it's worth the extra £100 to get the £500 version or is the £400 version fine?
Also is the £400 version able to make DVD's using the iDVD because I didn't think it had a CD/DVD writer.
Finally does the Mac Mini connect to any display/keyboard/mouse or does it have like a sort of small list of compatible add-ons? Is there anyway to see if my current keyboard/mouse/display is compatible?

it is definitely worth the £100 extra, my friend has the cheaper version and I have the more expensive version, there is no visible difference, but my one has faster internet and my friend ran out of memory with music and films and applications etc... so, DO go for the extra £100

I left my mini on for 35 days once. IT then froze and had to be rebooted. I had the 1.6 GHz Core Duo with 512mb of RAM. Now got a 2.2 Ghz macbook, love it!!

the power brick is a UPS. it holds power a few seconds after shut off, like a power outage. It wont just shut of, it will slowly kill the power. good vid. A+
