i'm a pot smoker too but recently i was told legalizing would barely help the economy because then anyone could grow it in their own homes, that does kind of make sense doesn't it? so i think legalizing is more for the 'pursuit of happiness' instead of money.

Yeah taxes would help. I'm not an economics major so correct me if I'm wrong. It seems to me the problem with the economy is corporate irresponsibility and greed that caused a drop in consumer/investor confidence. Legal weed isn't going to fix consumer confidence. The weed industry would would also compete with other markets like alcohol as well as corporate pill companies. So overall taxes increases from cannabis would only help marginally. There is only so much people can consume.

Corporations and consumers, extending themselves irresponsibly, caused our economic problems. The weed industry currently exists and does compete with other markets like alcohol. The differences today are users are criminals, no tax income, and most of the monies spent leave our country. If your logic were correct, introduction of a legal market would affect other markets. , then we should never let a new/competing product enter the market for fear of repercussions to the current market.

Oakland passed measure F recently which put a much more substantial tax on medical cannabis, $16/1000 as oppose to $1.25/1000. They arn't the first to tax dispensaries but they're the first to place a major tax on them.

i am not being on the ignorant side, i am all for it, but if you watch "rick simpson run from the cure" you will than know that oil from the plant can cure cancer and other diseases if used correctly. it can be used to make methanol to run our cars ..no more high gas prices... one acre of marijuana can produce 8 times more paper than 1 acre of trees.. and grown in 4 months!!!!. see where im going with this? god help us make it legal.. i just cant see it happening yet..

That doesn't have anything to do with what he was saying. He was claiming that if it were legal, south america would take over American weed, and that's simply not true. We already have pot farmers all around northern California, it being illegal doesn't stop them.
Plus just because it's legal doesn't mean it won't be against the morals of the majority of Americans, and as such, I HIGHLY doubt normal farmers would take up pot, that's just silly.
