Get off his case his guinea pig is cleary a fine swimmer and do u not think if it was in trouble he wouldn't have gone to get it? Probably good for a guinea pig to some kind of exercise
animes25,talking about retroevolution,d'you know gps have been domesticated many years ago,and there aren't gps in the wild anymore.why are you b1tching about ppl's gps dying, just coz they love&care about'em?Hey, why don't you throw yourself into a pond every now and then?Maybe that'll make you strong.Btw,rodents don't swim for fun(even in wild)!Ponds are FILTHY!They're worse than rivers/seas.They're made of stagnant,bateria-growing,water.I really have a problem with you cursing ppl's gps.
If the guinea pig needed him, by the time he jumped in and got to it, it would be DEAD. I agree fully with Spikegirl. Its time children caring for animals grow up.
What, do guinea pigs combust with water? And the pond is less than a foot deep.
To be honest, the RSPCA could care less. They have bigger concerns than a rodent swimming in a small body of water, to get itself out and dry quickly, with no harm done. Do you want some CT scans to show he's alright? Or perhaps the fact that in the 3 months since this has been posted the guinea pig is fine.
It's pretty immature to think that this video is funny, and Jaffa needs to take a good look at animal cruelty. Hope you all grow up someday but until you do why don't you find someone who will care for your pigs in a mature way. Cruelty in the guise of humor is sick.
My guineas sometimes swim on hot days, but thats because they want to, and I'm always next to them if they need me, and its only in a small amout of water which they can't do any harm in, but I would never let them go out of my reach in case something happened, nor would i EVER THROW THEM IN!!!
Lets see, Was he near it if it needed him? Yes. Was it a small amount of water? Yes a small pond in his back garden. Did he thorw it? Hardly, dropped it a few centimetres, when you say throw it sounds as if he was some distance from the pond and launched the guinea pig at it.
Guinea Pigs and Ducks seem to be a lot a like. Yes, both can swim, but both can also drown. I've had a duck drown, and another almost drown. Throwing a guinea pig into a lake is heartless. You really don't think of anyone but yourself. The RSPCA should be on your back. You could have killed it. It doesn't matter if it was 20dc or 50dc. You still shouldn't have done it. I pitty that poor guinea pig greatly.
Are you F***ing stupid. Yes cavies can swim but putting one in a pond is beyond belief. People like you should not be allowed near cavies or any other animal come to that. BLOODY STUPID!
It climbed out of the pond with ease, shook itself dry in the manner a dog would, then walked over to me at which point I picked it up and got a towel. Want a chronographic timeline too?
Since guinea pigs don't really think, probably little. Perhaps some fear, followed by him feeling disgruntled, then hunger as he spotted some grass? i.e. I doubt he could give a shite in the end.
"I considered that the creatures pretty much live in their own filth"
Only if their owners allow them too. My girls love being clean and in a clean cage. I just don't see the point - especially as this video may encourage others to do the same with their own cavies, who may not swim so well.
I've got a piggy myself and I've never tried it so I don't know whether it's ok. I just wanna say that's a guinea pig who looks like it can swim fast! Sweet piggy!
Just saw oceangurlie's comment, and I think she/he has a point. You can't make assumptions on how good an owner I am based on 14 seconds of video. All I can say is that I am; I put hours upon hours into caring for them, and love doing so. Everyone tells me they're very tame too - which I doubt they would be if I continually flung them into ponds.
He swims well, hehe. Just as long as you don't put them in for longer than a few seconds, and you're able to get them out of any trouble quickly, then no harm should be done.
Seriously, guinea pigs are less fragile than some of you seem to think. I sometimes let my two pigs run about the back garden where occasionally they get approached by the local cats - they couldn't care less about them.
Well... mine never went swimming except for during their bath. I never let the water level get too high, but they got suspicious and started to paddle around. I think they liked it (just not the bath part). Anyways,it would be interesting to point out that guinea pigs are similar in structure to the Capybara (Water Hog), just on a much smaller scale.
You'd think that it would drown since it has such short legs. But guinea pigs can swim, and if it's too deep then THEY LOOK LIKE THEY'RE DROWNING. This fella is swimming faster than I can!
Based on your logic to "tuffin" up your guinea pig....then it should make sense to return the favor in order to "tuffin" you up?? There are other ways to so-called cool off your guinea pig on a hot day other than literally throw him in the pond. Stupid is as stupid does I guess.
Although I wouldn't want to put my pig in a pond "just to see the results" the same way I wouldn't throw my cat into a pond. Frankly I'm surprised that Jaffa is shocked at people's responses when most pigs are kept in cages and not around water at all.
Well, I think I was taken aback more by the sheer voracity of some of the comments.
Also, I knew guinea pigs can swim perfectly well before putting Charlie in the pond. So while it was to "see the results" in a sense, there were certainties about it - that he wouldn't be harmed, for example.
The comments don't suprise me, man. Even if you were dumping CLEAN water onto your pig as a joke, you'd get people calling you an asshole.
Anyway, as I saw the video I considered that the creatures pretty much live in their own filth. I'm thinking a pond wouldn't hurt too much.
AND if anybody noticed the video, your pig does swim along the edge of the pool. I'm not a guinea pig expert but a creature that couldn't swim would probably sink.
I really can't be bothered arguing with you all (although I never said I was trying to "tuffin" the guinea pig up, and I didn't upload this to "advertise" this apparent case of severe animal abuse, merely a friend of mine wanted to see it) but I'm frankly shocked by the suggestion that I'm not a good owner because I put a guinea pig in a pond, in a controlled and safe enviroment, to see the results - besides, it was a bloody hot day. How the fuck can you say that after seeing one video?
Yes, I did this for my own amusement, but only because the guinea pig was not in any danger and so far, I haven't noticed any physical or psychological trauma. He's in good health.
Seriously, give it a rest. Some of those calling me pathetic should take a look at themselves, from what I'm seeing.
You should be ashamed of yourself for not only putting your Guinea Pig at risk in this manner, but then to advertise your ignorance like this, is unbelieveable. You should find a good home for your Pig as it's not possibly with you.
Making your pig swim in a filthy pond is pathetic and irresponsible. But justifying it by saying you need to "tuffin" him up is even worse. You made this video because you thought it was funny. Its not, and anyone who thinks it is pretty sad. If you feel that your guinea pig needs exersize, build him a bigger cage and give him freetime on the floor.
Can guinea pigs swim? Do they ever swim when living in the wild?
A.
It is unlikely that guinea pigs ever swim in the wild since they come from the Andes which are steep arid mountains with little standing water in which to learn to swim. Evolution thus discouraged experimentation with swimming. (from http://freespace.virgin.net/tobys.world/pmail06.html)
Oh my gosh... the poor thing is TERRIFIED. Who the HELL would put a guinea pig in a pond to make it swim?? Some sick bast*** that's for sure!
...And animes25, guinea pigs DO NOT swim in ponds in their natural habitat. They do not swim at all in the wild. No guinea pig likes to swim, not wild ones, not domesticated ones.
This was very stupid, garden ponds are full of bacteria, i have 7 guinea pigs and some of them have been swimming in the paddling pool, but that was clean water and it was actually quite the opposite of cruel because it was summer and 100 degrees outside and they needed cooling down
