  • Tape has been slowed down about 10% which ruins the song and makes it very drony and dull

  • I was at both Brighton concerts in 1972. The January one was the first date on the tour and was the first time they played DSOM in public. As you came in, the pre-DSOM heartbeat was already going in quadrophonic with some of the rear speakers balanced on auditorium seats! But yes there was a technical problem in "Money" so they stopped it. On the upside, we got an impromptu performance of "Atom Heart Mother" instead and a return date later in the year.

  • what is the highest selling Australian band? It sure isn't AC/DC!

  • what is the highest selling Australian band?

  • This was the very first time this song was performed in concert. For nearly a year afterwards, Floyd would perform DSOTM as "Eclipse", gradually modifying it until the final recording in 1973. It is very interesting to follow the progress in 1972

  • Its fun to hear the guys flowing in the same chord progressions but with a definite different artistic style; but yet its still Time... beautiful.

  • this is a great bootleg and also the very first time they attempted to play "eclipse" (the working version of Dark Side Of The Moon)....too bad they had a massive power failure during Money....you can hear it on the tape......they just stop playing and go into Atom Heart Mother after a few minutes

  • This actually fills in some gaps from their experimental late 60s material to their phenomenal Dark Side of the Moon album. It sounds like a continuation of their work around "Echoes" from Meddle.

  • at the end of this video I ask myself "what the hell is my jaw doing way down there?"

  • buns

  • I was going to post that this was in no way, shape or form Pink Floyd but then it became a little clearer 5:55 and the vocals were unmistakably David Gilmour and Rick Wright! Great find, love hearing what I call "Embryonic Pink Floyd". Somewhere about on here I heard a pre-release version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond which is, aside from the 4 note "Syd's Theme" and the great lyrics, virtually unrecognisable as the Shine On featured on Wish You Were Here! Love it!

  • album was released march 1973

  • This does not look anything like floyd

  • @rothmans02 it looks just like floyd, you can clearly see gilmour on guitar and waters on bass

  • @Xiolablu3 Absolutely correct, you can see Gilmour's trademark hairdoo, also, Mason has a double bass kit and rototom set, pictured.

  • Man, I so wanted to hear Nick on those Rototoms on the intro.

  • Just because something sells doesn't mean its necessarily the best in terms of creativity and instrumental flow. Luckily for the Floyd, DSotM has both and sold a ton.

  • the thriller album IS awesome, i dont own it. I do however own darkside, and id rather take darkside to an island alone than thriller. if i were to take one piece of music to an island forever and my choices are thriller or darkside....uhh darkside, hello...still ya cant dance to many songs to darkside, maby money...but you need a partner for that..cool ill take Rachel Fury, and darkside and endless heroin and pot forever to an island dont worry there will be food and toilet paper there too.

  • it doesn't matter....enjoy the amazing music they all made

  • you're right, its all good. this era of great music is slowly drifting away with time.

  • who cares if AC/DC sold more , if youve heard one album you pretty much get the picture , and the post Bon scott stuff is woeful! and im pretty sure that guys said "best album ever" not highest selling , because AC/DC have never thought as much about one album as pink floyd did about even one song .when im getting drunk with bikies then ill listen to acdc ,when i want epic music i listen to the floyd. and yes im australian.

  • @DifferenceDiversity Exactly! All I ever hear about AC/DC is how much they sold, where as Pink Floyd its about the music

  • @DifferenceDiversity Well, AC/DC and Pink Floyd are my two favorite bands and I love them both pretty much equally but you can't compare them, their style, lyrics, mood etc are completely different. It doesn't make any sense comparing them. I can see somebody saying they like Pink Floyd and not AC/DC, but comparing them is pointless.

BTW when you talk about the post-Bon stuff being inferior you surely don't include the Back In Black album do you?

  • Dark side is the greatest album ever...many people retain that AC/DC comes number one i mean sure they are and will be one of rocks milestones but I think they never created that weird alienish flow and breathtaking instrumental parts,, you see you can listen to Floyd both with vocals and instrumental, like fx: Any colour you like..while AC/DC for me anyway will get kinda boring without the singing,, Pink Floyd is the ultimate complete band,,and they proved it with Dark Side...

  • Dark side of the moon is second best selling album after M J' s thriller.

  • Wrong. AC/DC's Back in Black is the second best selling album.

  • @jlsmsu12

pink floyd top 2 best selling albums DSOTM and the wall have sold 75million,thats more than the top 2 AC/DC albums.

  • pink floyd is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better then that bubble gum crap, no offense to MJ but i think i know alot more people who will say the Dark Side of the Moon IS the greatest album ever.

  • It is indeed 1000 times better than anything that has been ever produced. But that's the statistics.

  • agreed 120%

  • @RussianBear05 It is the best album of all time.

  • @RussianBear05 Greatest rock album ever, so far. Who could touch it?

  • i heard the wall is the first with 120 millions?

  • Is there a DVD of this gig? could'nt belive there's no video recording of this existing.

  • this is when they were approaching their peak... amazing gig

  • This is actually the first time they performed DSoTM live under the title Eclipse. It is an actual concert from The Dome in Brighton. They got as far as Money when a horrible electrical crackle and loss of the vocals meant abandoning the rest of the performance. They carried on with their usual set once the technical problems had been sorted out.

  • It is a (very) common misconception that they first performed Dark Side of the Moon under the title Eclipse. This is untrue; they first performed it as Dark Side of the Moon, then as they went to the first US tour of '72, they changed the title to Eclipse (and subtitle A Piece For Assorted Lunatics), performed it as Eclipse also after they returned from the US, and then as they were going for the second US tour of '72, they changed the title back again to Dark Side of the Moon.

  • So, first as Dark Side of the Moon (January 20, through March), then as Eclipse (April 14 onwards), then as Dark Side of the Moon again (from September 8).

  • Yes come to think of it that would make sense as they were going to call it "Dark Side" but changed it because of the album of the same name by Medicine Head. When the latter sank without trace they changed it back to Dark Side.

I've just had a look at the original ticket stub from this Dome gig and it just says:The Pink Floyd. Cost? £1 !!

  • Did you bring a tape recorder with you? ;)

  • No, sadly I wasn't actually at this gig! A friend was (which is where the ticket stub came from). I did however, book The Dome for the 25th anniversary of this gig (20th Jan 1997) where my Floyd tribute "Sheep" played the whole of Dark Side plus lots of other Floyd classics. We got 750 people in on a rainy Monday night! Not bad!

  • this is the performance they talked about on the classis album cd?

  • At the end of this gig Roger announces that because they didn't get all the way through their new piece that they'll come back to The Dome, Brighton at the end of the tour. This they did, five months later in June '72. The clip that is played on The Classic albums DVD is from one or the other!

  • thats why i say that enjoy thins when they are around people think now that rick died floyd is going to do a reunion tour nuts

  • Thanks so much for posting this.

After all these years I still love to explore the growth and development of Pink Floyd.

  • Sure it is. Thy were still refining the song, that's all. This is a killer version.. They had changed a good bit by the studio. You don't recoginize their voices?

  • fucking rare shit man....nice jams by pink floyd

  • This is from Eclipse in't it?

How come the sound is not as good as on AHM?

  • No, it's not from eclipse. It's from "The Darkside rehearsals". Pink Floyd played som DSOTM songs before the actual album was released.

  • Yes I am, this is before the actual album was released though!

  • @possiblexxx Idiot.
