As an owner of an Audi RS4 I have test driven both . . the 1M Coupe is a fun car . . but as it rained on the day (as it does a lot in the UK) she became a different beast . . you cannot relax driving for one second otherwise she will spit you into the kerb at every bend and roundabout . . you cannot drive like this in the UK without attarcting the police . . . as a car to drive every day the RS3. . on a dry day 1M coupe . . so shall I change my RS4? . . No, as it can do both.
@wideangle852 I've driven many high-powered RWD cars and currently own a 300bhp BMW 130i (tuned, obviously) and have yet to feel 'out of control'. I feel far more in control, actually. The chassis is far more adjustable than that of an AWD or FWD car and the steering feel is far better than any Audi I've ever driven. As capable as the RS4 is (and we're actaully comparing the RS3), they are not 'pure' drivers' cars in the sense the 1M is. You just have to know how to drive properly.

The 1M, according to most car press, is leagues ahead of the RS3 in terms of driving involvement. I totally agree too - the RS3 is just a car. A very quick and very nice car but not very involving. No steering feedback, a woolly chassis, pedals spaced too far for heel-toeing comfortably. It's a car for drivers who don't actually like driving/know how to drive properly.

Audi RS3 is much faster on straight line speed. And if RS3 is a 3 door version, then is much faster on track, because normal S3 coupe is much faster than S3 sportback is, and its also lighter.
there's one little thing. anybody can drive a quattro, but it takes skill and technique to drive a quattro fast which this douche obviously doesnt have. And the beamer is a coupe whilst the Audi is a 4 door hatch.
So if you have no idea how to control a car or just can't be bothered you should buy the Audi. If you want to have any fun at all and not just the usual Audi understeer you should buy the BMW. All the comments about not trying as hard in the Audi - have you ever driven one? There's nothing to try hard for. Turn in as close to the front tyres limit as possible then just sit and wait. Numbers speak for them selves. 1M is faster, and more importantly that boring ass guy was even having FUN while driving the BMW. And bringing a "better" or a professional driver won't do anything, 1M is much harder to drive because of its set up while the Audi is easy as mentioned by Mr. Boring Ass Guy. In an experienced driver, 1M will shine even more.
The whole point of having a small car with lots of power is that it is supposed to be fun and exciting to drive! BMW 1M is not only the clear winner when it comes to driving thrill, but also the fastest (despite the damp surface). ///M
The M coupe is a brilliant little car tbh, its basically a modern day m3 series, i mean if you would compare the numbers with the 1980s 3 two door third series, i think they are pretty close (size wise). Because in reality the current 3 series is already bigger than the E28. I dont think this rs3 and M1 couple comparison is fair, totally different cars body shape wise, and aerodynamically it makes a difference, mind you i dont think TT would be a fair replacement either, money wise dont match.

@razioth Thats because the DSG makes it faster and more efficient. Sports car today dont need a manual, these arent the 70's. And yes, Audi is available with a manual.
@derbigpr500 Nope, the RS3 is ONLY offered with the S-tronic 7-speed automatic transmission, why not at least OFFER a 6 or 7 speed manual? Manuals are a couple of grands cheaper, more reliable, less expensive to fix/maintain, and most of all : MORE FUN. Sports cars are about being fun to drive, and changing through the gears myself is more fun in itself and allows for more control over your car. Ok dual-clutch might shift a few milliseconds faster but it doesn't matter at all in the real life.
@razioth Cars with DSG are incredibly fun to drive. Even driving a VW Golf with 1.4 TSI engine and DSG gearbox feel like driving a car from a computer game. Manuals are fun to drive sometimes, but most of the time they're pain in the ass. Try driving in some city with a manual car, driving for 100 meters, then stopping for a traffic light...and doing that on a 20 km's long stretch of road, and doing that every morning when going to work. Manuals are fun only when you're driving quickly.
@derbigpr500 I've been driving in the traffic every day on my way to work and home, and I don't see the issue here, it's not hard at all. My car has 320,000km and still has the factory engine&clutch&transmission and there's no problem with it whatsoever. I agree my grandmother or my aunt would find it difficult to drive in traffic so an automatic transmission is perfect for them, but for any car enthusiast (who buys sports car) manuals are the way to go in my book.
@razioth Depends what you want. In a real proper sports car that would be used on a track, manual transmission is always more fun, but in every day situations, when driving normally, a automatic is much more relaxed to drive. There's no point having a manual in dense traffic when you driving like 40-50 km/h, or on opened roads where you constantly drive 100-110 km/h.
@TheEryk03 Other reviews have shown that the 1M is still faster than the TT-RS. I'm not hating on any car I love both but I still prefer the 1M! Generally speaking, you can expect a BMW to be faster/sportier than its competition, including other german cars. BUT, the fact that the TT-RS has AWD, it's more suitable for bad conditions, but who drives a sport car during the winter ? I'd rather have a RWD 1M for the summer and say an AWD car for the winter/bad conditions

Audi RS3, power to weight ratio is 213hp/tonne.
BMW 1 M Coupe, power to weight ratio is 222hp/tonne.
What better power to weight ratio is, then much better car is on track..Mostly.

Usally i like Audis more, but u have to admit, the 1M is a true sportscar whereas the RS3 is a practical compact car, with a nice engine. Even if the Audi would have had the faster laptime, i'd rather take the 1M for a run...

Numbers speak for them selves. 1M is faster, and more importantly that boring ass guy was even having FUN while driving the BMW. And bringing a "better" or a professional driver won't do anything, 1M is much harder to drive because of its set up while the Audi is easy as mentioned by Mr. Boring Ass Guy. In an experienced driver, 1M will shine even more.

The M coupe is a brilliant little car tbh, its basically a modern day m3 series, i mean if you would compare the numbers with the 1980s 3 two door third series, i think they are pretty close (size wise). Because in reality the current 3 series is already bigger than the E28. I dont think this rs3 and M1 couple comparison is fair, totally different cars body shape wise, and aerodynamically it makes a difference, mind you i dont think TT would be a fair replacement either, money wise dont match.

The (real) M1 should have been called some other name, like M10 or something, because it does not represent the 1 series in any way, but I think it was made before there even was a 1-series car, that's the problem

I actually love and respect both of these! BMW is more wild and fun, and engine note is more metallic. Audio is more safe in bad weather, and the engine note is sexy like a baby V10. Can't go wrong with either!

@derbigpr500 Nope, the RS3 is ONLY offered with the S-tronic 7-speed automatic transmission, why not at least OFFER a 6 or 7 speed manual? Manuals are a couple of grands cheaper, more reliable, less expensive to fix/maintain, and most of all : MORE FUN. Sports cars are about being fun to drive, and changing through the gears myself is more fun in itself and allows for more control over your car. Ok dual-clutch might shift a few milliseconds faster but it doesn't matter at all in the real life.

@razioth Cars with DSG are incredibly fun to drive. Even driving a VW Golf with 1.4 TSI engine and DSG gearbox feel like driving a car from a computer game. Manuals are fun to drive sometimes, but most of the time they're pain in the ass. Try driving in some city with a manual car, driving for 100 meters, then stopping for a traffic light...and doing that on a 20 km's long stretch of road, and doing that every morning when going to work. Manuals are fun only when you're driving quickly.

@derbigpr500 I've been driving in the traffic every day on my way to work and home, and I don't see the issue here, it's not hard at all. My car has 320,000km and still has the factory engine&clutch&transmission and there's no problem with it whatsoever. I agree my grandmother or my aunt would find it difficult to drive in traffic so an automatic transmission is perfect for them, but for any car enthusiast (who buys sports car) manuals are the way to go in my book.

In a real proper sports car that would be used on a track, manual transmission is always more fun, but in every day situations, when driving normally, a automatic is much more relaxed to drive. There's no point having a manual in dense traffic when you driving like 40-50 km/h, or on opened roads where you constantly drive 100-110 km/h.

@TheEryk03 Other reviews have shown that the 1M is still faster than the TT-RS. I'm not hating on any car I love both but I still prefer the 1M! Generally speaking, you can expect a BMW to be faster/sportier than its competition, including other german cars. BUT, the fact that the TT-RS has AWD, it's more suitable for bad conditions, but who drives a sport car during the winter ? I'd rather have a RWD 1M for the summer and say an AWD car for the winter/bad conditions
